    Shoot from little bird?

@ Stendac - KyleSarnic is right but let me explain it in another way. Whatever the author might have written, the fact is that over 1000 people have been killed in that action. No matter whether good or bad guys .... over 1000 people died on this 2 days only. After reading the book, you dont care about this fact, you see the story from the view of a soldier and surely war is aweful. I cant picture one single soldier being happy in such a battle. But what the author does is to pull away the reader from the fact what happened there. People were torn apart by Miniguns and rockets and the only thing you guys say is that the author described the situation well. To understand it better count to one thousand my friend... and then think that every single small number you count contains as many aspects (love, children, dreams, right to live, etc.) as your own life.

ArmA: Combat Operations & able to play together??

Dont worry, it will all be the same... imagine people wouldnt be able to play with eath other... We had this once with OFP 1.85 and 1.96 for some time... and I think that BIS learned their lesson. But please next time look for similar threads, because this question was asked quite a few times. cheers!

    barrett 50 cal sniper rifle

No Anti Material is the right designation for this type of rifles. Counter Sniper is just the method these rifles are usualy (aswell) used. .50 cal snipers have disadvantages to standard .308 rifles which are weight, size, sound, flash. The advantages are clear. Youd only use a 50cal sniper when the advantages make out a bigger part than the disadvantages. Its good to take out fortified positions. Of course it can also pierce APCs armour but noone would rely on that in a combat operation that a sniper can take out a whole column of APCs. Just feel to say that although it is strong, its use is limited and often exaggerated.

ArmA: Combat Operations & able to play together??

Yes. It doesnt depend on in which country you bought your copy of ArmA but which version you are running. Patch 1.05 made are releases equal. The new patch that will be released when the US version comes out will update our versions to 1.06 or 1.07 like the US one and then we all can play on the same servers

    barrett 50 cal sniper rifle

Kind of figured that It seems to be a trend in games to make this damn fine rifle, nothing more than an uber sniper Speaking of youtube I found this vid of what the real one can do with the right round. I didn't know joe public could buy one of these over the counter in the states! thought it'd be the same as the army version m16. federally banned from public use. Have a look at this one ... its about banning .50cal snipers in the US: Youtube Video

    barrett 50 cal sniper rifle

Sure the intention of having a .50cal sniper rifle is to use it against material. Shooting people dead can be done quite fine with 308 winchester. Although the .50cal BMG has a very high energy and can as a AP bullet pierce many mm of RHA at far distances, it would in real life rarely to never be used to take out IFVs but only (if at all) APCs. These rifles are mainly designed to hit a target which is hiding behind something ie. (car door, concrete wall, etc.) And that works very fine in real life. Shooting at cars would for sure mean a dead penetration too. Now the big question is if you can do that in ArmA... we know that in ArmA bullets can go through wood fences for example but I think that ArmA still isnt that ready. A 50cal would pierce a car from the side and kill someone at the other end of it too, which doesnt work in ArmA. Anyway ArmAs penetraion and damage models are highly messed up and I would NOT advise ArmA as a testing tool "to find out" how these weapons work in real life.

    barrett 50 cal sniper rifle

As Plaintiff said already, you wont be able to pierce the frontal arc of the BMP with a 50 cal. (especially not in low firing rate = 50cal sniper) You will probably be able to pierce the BMPs side armour which is not more than 22mm I believe from a certain distance at 0° though. The BMP2 is slightly uparmoured and thus maybe a bit harder to penetrate. This is RL .... but as we all know ARMA does not simulate real life damage effects, so dont expect to have a chance there. Either the sniper is too weak or too strong.

    Shoot from little bird?

Ouch. That's a heavy accusation against Mark Bowden there. Can you be more specific? I did a little search and found some websites that criticize Mark Bowden for being too pro-military and making unfair statements in other writings, but so far I haven't found anything about Black Hawk Down specifically. I read the book myself years ago and I liked it a lot. Bowden interviewed some Somalis about their experiences and you can begin to understand why many of them began to resent the presence of the Americans. This perspective wasn't really there in the movie. Sure, Bowden has his own opinion about mission and the eventual troop pullout, but does he actually lie in his book? Of course I have read the book, I would not comment on anything I dont know for sure. Sure the mission was a mess-up and naturraly the author has to critize someone, namely the HQ and the officers and planers. This still doenst mean that the book advertises the US forces as the bad guys. They are described pittyfull and readers (like you) believe everything he writes because you say: "oh see... he talked bad about the US officers, so he must be a neutral guy only displaying the truth". What I mean is when you read the book, you get to love the Rangers and 1st SFOD-D and are turned more pro-american than you were before. Isnt that propaganda enough ?

    ACU Problems...?

I've read at some internet source that the US is aiming to replace the newly introduced ACU with Multicam. Reasons for this are that ACU doesnt really fit to many terrains, whereas Multicam is the perfect solution and the higher cost of ACU. I personally think that ACU doesnt look too good, but the multicam seems promising.

    Shoot from little bird?

Well... although this might be the most rare thing ever to happen, Ive heard from an Iranian soldier that fought in the Iraq - Iran war at the time of the recapture of the Faw peninsula, that the Iran Army utilized Uh-1 as a platform to launch RPGs at Iraqi tanks. I first wasnt too sure to believe him as his general information was low, he didnt even know the difference between the AK47, AKM and AK74 and didnt even know which caliber his G3 chambered. But after I made sure he didnt meant the Wireguided missiles of the Cobra (Iran purchased 202 AH-1J), I came to the conclusion that the Iranian Army in fact used RPG7 from the Inside of UH1 helicopters in fast and low level attacks. I doubt the great success though. Of course a chopper is a good platform for many types of weaponary (I personally can picture mortars being used from choppers too in rare occasionas), but at least use of small caliber arms from inside a chopper should be allowed. This reminds me of the firing holes of the BMD and BMP1/2. The infantry in the back has the chance to fire their small arms. Of course they wont be able to hit shit at full speed on bad ground with almost no visibility + smoke of the BMDs/BMPs engine but.. they have the feature. And so should we have the chance to use our mainarms from helos.

    Shoot from little bird?

Puma you should not really believe everything written in books That book is rather typical american propaganda than anything else. Although there are many accurate books out there, Black Hawk Down isnt one of them. @ Plaintiff It still makes no sense to have a suppressed M4 for that occasion mate ....
  13. -CS-SOBR-1st-I-R-

    Shoot from little bird?

It was a red dot scoped M4 if I remember right - no way a barret Usually the chopper mounted GPMG 7.62mm is used to suppress enemy (snipers) or cover the troops while they disembark. That is also the sense of having Uh60 circling around to cover. They dont cover with 69mm rockets but those GPMGs. You guys know that it is pretty difficult to shoot at a mansized target while lying out to 300 meters. So please tell me how accurate fire can be delivered when flying at a unkown speed, with changing directions and manouvers at distances below you, maybe hiding and several hundred meters away. That would need physical and mathematical mastermind to calculate the right angle and time of the shot. But still... its good to have that feature as spraying might come in handy while landing or flying just over rooftops.

    Shoot from little bird?

Although this would make ArmA something like "Delta Force - Black Hawk Down", I would welcome the idea. Noone is forced to shoot down. Although it has to be damn hard to hit a mansized object from 100m while flying with bullets with a diameter of 5 mm, it is simply left to the personal choice. It will indeed come in handy at some operation and give a good feeling as it is done like this in real life. So .... conclusion: GIVE IT TO US edit: By the way.... I just remembered that BAS MH-6 had an MP5 fullauto SMG attached to the co-pilots seat. And BAS also had this nice "faste harness" option to walk around in the CH47 for example and snipe down.

Why Does the USMC use the Ah-1Z?

Who said that ? Albeit both the AH-1 and AH-64 are pretty old, the newst variant of the Cobra (AH-1Z) is definetely more modern and advanced than the "for-decades-not-touched" Ah-64. By the way, they carry the same weapons systems. Hellfire, Hydra and chaingun. And the Cobra can also utilize bomblet dispensers, HOT and other things. Its further cheaper and lighter than the Apache. So why is the Apache better ? Cause they knocked out T-55s from a distance of 8 Km in 1991 when Iraq was exhausted due to two wars and their tanks had a day visible range of 1 click ?

    Will It Run?

Yes it will run on that new rig. But dont expect TOO much difference between your actual system and the new rig. When buying ram pay attention that is it PC-800 (faster and a bit more expensive than others) and see if you can get a SATA2 RAID0 combination.

    DXDLL

Thanks for the advise but I rather have standard Red + ECP back. You know after getting used to something for years you can hardly accept anything new or different, even if its better. Ive taken that dll file and the whole dxdll folder out and now it works smooth as before. Or are there any really great advantages why I should stick to dxdll ?

    RHS Hind v1.0 for ArmA

Oh yeah it is indeed !! This chopper is nicknamed "Flying Tank" (dont confuse with T80) because its armour is so strong. Believe it or not the body of the Mi24 (dont know which version) is designed to withstand 50 cal fire and the essential parts like fueltanks, ammo box and avionics even to resisist 20mm (not AP though). So in fact shootint it with a Medium MG (7.62mm) should not do any damage at all but probably heavy and continiusly 50 cal fire.

Yeah tried that now and it worked. Thanks guys, now I can have a look into some old but nice spetsnaz "behind enemy lines" missions. cheers!

    DXDLL

I've tried cutting it out of the directory and starting the game... which didnt work as ofp said "some dxdll file could not be found". I'll try now to remove that dll file as said above.. see if it works.
