Flying on a 27 inch screen

Bigger is better, that applies to monitors as well.

    CO10 The Ridge

Thanks, will give that a try. :)

    CO10 The Ridge

We played this mission yesterday, seemed to work fine. It's fun, although picking off the AI opfor was a bit too easy at times. Still, good job!

Latest beta and CTD - please read

Definately having problems with a USMC motorcycle and default Humvee here since installing the last beta. Happens right after I drive off. Back to previous, then...

    Sniper view cutscene - description.ext

Ah, I didn't realise I had to incorporate it into the existing structure as opposed to adding at the bottom. Bit new to the description.ext structure... I was about to ask about the newly popped up Undefined Base Class error when I considered that the other part of the code was still at the bottom of the file causing it to be read too late. Moved it up and atleast it's not crashing the editor for me anymore. Thanks mate. :)

    Is 16:10 the way forward?

I've been using 16:10 for a while now and I like it a lot. There are a lot of situations where extra height comes in handy, gaming included.
  7. Hello all, I'm having trouble implementing a cutscene where you look through a scope. I looked in Mr Murray's guide and tried this: Went to Ofpec, found and tried this: http://www.ofpec.com/forum/index.php?topic=29511.msg201399#msg201399 I added the optika_sniper3.p3d file to my mission folder and "cutrsc ["M24","PLAIN"]" to the intro.sqs. When launching the mission it crashes with this error: "line235: .RSCTitles: member already defined". What's wrong with the description.ext code?

What is wrong with this review - 5870X2 cannot run Arma2??

With almost identical scores my first reaction is that only 1 GPU was active when he ran ArmA. But then I'm not an expert...

    ArmA 2 I/O analysis results

Thanks Ginger McAle, good/helpful post! Also have to thank the topic starter for his efforts. I just tried it with buildings2, plants2_tree, chernarus and structures and it worked very, very well. My HD (Spinpoint 1TB) was apparantly really the culprit here. I always thought it was a relatively good HD but it's nowhere near fast enough for ArmA2 I suppose. ;) Anyway, I can play through the urban missions now with a lot less hickups. FPS is still not great on Very High settings (15-30 in Cherno), but atleast it's a lot more stable which is more important to me now. Thanks once again!

    Arma 3!!! Your Expectations

If I was BIS I'd stick to my roots if I'd have to choose. They have something great going here, that is unlikely to die out as long as new versions are released every couple of years. The core is already there as is the fanbase. On topic, for ArmA3 I'd like to see a new multiplayer system with some main and user-created lobbies instead of/in addition to the gameslist, so people can chat a bit between games without joining a specific server. That worked great on SWAT3 for example. Also the controls should be better optimized for CQB and more buildings should be accessible. Mod activation should be handled in-game for simple weapon/unit/object/texture addons with auto-download options from the server. The editor should feature real-size object placement and a library of scripts. There are plenty, so that shouldn't be too hard. The equipment section can be overhauled to allow more customisation: carrying additional weapons like shotgun on your back.

    Dragon Rising has been released

Just played a first quick game (first campaign mission). DR gives me the same feeling as a Big Mac...it's food, but not good food. Very greasy, lacking real taste and hardly nice to look at. The menu is also as bad as a MacDonalds one. Can you say port? I wonder if the CM people ever even go out of their dungeons to see the sky. Because the sky in DR is yellow blinding stuff, it's just all effects and no real skybox. The same mostly applies to the terrain. It doesn't look that good on its self, so they add a bunch of effects in an effort to spice things up. All it does for me is make me wonder where the button is to turn off the blur. Did the dev's ever look through a real reddot sight? It's usually round, not star-shaped. These things don't look like that, unless you have an eye almost closed, which is exactly what a reddot is used against.... AI got itself killed quickly, but then again maybe I need to get the hang of it better. Either way it doesn't seem to do a lot. Doesn't get in the way but doesn't really help out a lot either. But, we can not only complain. The game DOES run flawlessly. Haven't experienced a single hick-up with everything on max, unlike 1 other game I play...you guess which. ;) Best 50 euro I have not spent recently!

How Satisfied with Arma2 Are you??

Most important problem IMO is the lousy performance, despite my rig being well above the "optimal requirements". Especially the campaign is almost unplayable as it progresses. Lowering settings helps only marignally as it seems to be an AI/CPU problem. This wouldn't have been such an issue for me had BI been honest about the required specs. Or if they would have been more forthcoming with information as to their plan how and when to provide fixes for this. After the initial announcement they would look into it in patch 1.04 things have become awfully quiet. I've paid good money and I don't want to be kept in the dark. What also saddens me is that some people justify this by saying it's to avoid liability, which is an obvious fallacy since liability already exists since they misrepresented the product on the cover. It's only because nobody wants to go through the effort of starting a procedure (which is completely understandable) that it hasn't been formally acknowlegded. Also sad to see justifications along the the lines of "they are making OA now, which will ensure they can properly support Arma 2 in the future". The game should be supported regardless of any future plans and products, since it's a well established customer right to receive an adequate product. Other than that, there are several other bugs more extensively mentioned by others that I don't consider to be game-breaking, but just annoying. Those were present in all games they've released and I've pretty much learned to live with them and accept it as a fact of life. Which is pretty uncommon for me but OFP/ArmA has always been a great favorite. I've got every OFP and ArmA game/expansion on the shelve and I've been always been happy to support BI financially because of their ambition with these games, but I will see a patch increase performance before 1 more euro moves from my pocket to theirs. Edit: I'd like to add that while I think the campaign is pretty cool, immersive and inventive, it should have been twice as long to be really worthwhile.

    New patch 1.04

Thanks, I shall give these a go. :) Nevertheless, an official patch should and probably will be released. Was just hoping we wouldn't have to go through another beta cycle before it happens. ;)

    New patch 1.04

Maybe I have missed an announcement since then but I don't see any real performance improvements in the fixlist, which is something I think many people are waiting for. Other than that, some nice fixes (score system and sound problems). :)
