    soldner sucked real bad.. the player models were really low in polycount. the maps were tiny compared with anything offered in a BIS game. honestly.. it's like comparing a paper clip to a melon.

    grass is only good for concealment at best, and a visual obstruction at worst. the thing about hiding in grass, is that it can be really hard to pull off. either the AI hear you if they are close or they can spot your legs when you are prone and they are in an elevated position. sure your head and shoulders are concealed, but i bet your ass and legs are completely exposed.
  4. oh my god.. really.. you do know that a computer can run more than one program at a time right? you can run a media program like WinAmp and control it via media keys or hot keys... that way you can listen to what ever music of your choosing with out putting me through the trouble of listing to it as well. besides, there already is a thread for posting feature requests, even idiotic ones.

    Update FaceTrackNoIR

    i got the software working great last night.. but for some reason today it's all messed up. i havent changed anything since playing last night so im looking for some help figuring this out. i dont get any error msgs, but it seems that all the axises are being triggered all at the same time.. when i start the tracking, my view snaps to the bottom and to the left and leans to the right.. i tried re-zeroing, adjusting the curves .. nothing seems to fix it. i have even reinstalled the damn thing and it's still doing it.

    ... blinding fire.. no thanks, this is not a Hollywood shooter, much less a paint ball simulator.. shooting over objects a la Congo guerrilla fighter style just doesn't work. especially in first person. the only parts of that video which were ok, was when the guy was on his side shooting, when he did the little running leap over the sand bags and when creeping up above the sandbags to shoot. keep that other arcadish crap away from my ArmA3!

    "leaning isn't important" are you kidding me? next to moving, leaning is one of the basic fundamental actions a combat operator does to keep him/her self alive on a battlefield. when moving from cover to cover, an operator always checks around the corner before moving. stepping out of a blind corner without knowing whats past it is a sure fire way to get shot. i agree with the op that the lean speed is a bit fast. i wouldn't mind having the speed turned down by maybe 15-20% to make it more fluid and natural. if there is one thing i would change other than speed of leaning, it would be to add the ability to transition between right and left shoulders. due to the multiple wars we have now, transition drills are being taught to soldiers as the need to be dynamic in a CQC environments has become a major factor in the combat affectedness of operators. anyone stating that weapon transitioning or for that matter leaning is unrealistic, obviously has never been in a combat theater getting shot at. if BIS doesn't change the current lean system, i don't really mind, it's better than not having it at all.

    +1 i hate having to cycle through semi, auto, m203, grenade, smoke grenade, satchel. should have a dedicated key just for the fire select on your primary. a key to cycle through grenades, and i wouldn't mind the having the satchel as a scroll menu item. lets say F cycles fire mode, G cycles grenades. press G to switch to grenades, press again to change type of grenade. press F to get back to your primary. as for movement key arrangement, WASD for basic movements, left shift and space bar for lean, that way you can lean and still work the WASD keys, instead of Q&E where you need to get off A or D to use. R for main optic/sight T to toggle to backup Iron sights (SpectureDR/ACOG). Z for reload, X for prone(also turn in), C for crouch(turn out), V for stand(x2 for eject from vehicle) i personally use Q for switching from Primary to secondary weapons (from rifle to shoulder launcher, or pistol) and E as the USE/perform action key. with this key set up, you can control your actions while still being mobile. how do you figure that? your optics dont work on the left side? i shoot from my left side all the time and im just as accurate as my right. as for the guy in the video being a poser, could be, but saying that just cause he's fat is kinda ignorant. what he is showing is a widely used and accepted action, granted he isn't quite elegant in his movements. i only picked that video because it was short and showed what i meant by transitioning. there are much better videos on youtube, but they are long. for transitioning from right hand to left hand shooting, i much rather fire from my non-dominant hand around a left corner than expose most of my body to incoming fire. if it means that BIS add a bit of instability when shooting from your weak side, it's still better than standing in the open. and besides, trained gun fighters can shoot just as well left handed as right. BIS should really watch some of the MagPul tactical carbine videos, and maybe even go out to a place that offers a course in gun fighting. the military here has been contracting instructors for gun fighter courses for our troops, as the military only teaches a soldier how to operate his weapon. gun fighting is a completely different skill that the guys over seas fighting every day are learning the hard way. i have already been seeing some of these methods being used by soldiers fighting in the middle east. when a soldier leans out a corner and a sniper is putting down accurate fire on his position, you can bet your ass he wont try to expose his body.

    what i would love to see is the ability to switch your primary weapon from shoulder to shoulder. could just have that action integrated as part of leaning. lean right and you use your weapon on your right shoulder, where as if you lean left, you swap shoulders as to have better cover around a left corner. i have been doing some tactical carbine training and we never lean a left corner with our rifles on our right side. it would be nice to see some gun fighter type of movements this time around. it would certainly change the dynamics of CQC and tactical maneuvers in general.

    in that regard everyone has the option of upgrading. i guess servers can adjust their setting to the lowest computer connected.. but that kinda suck for those of us who actually invested in our rigs to run A3 at it's most sexiest.

    one thing i would like to be improved is the leaning system. as it is now it already is far batter than many other FPS tittles(some don't even have lean for "balance".. right..). the main thing i would like to see added is the ability to swap your weapon from shoulder to shoulder when leaning left and right. if i could get some service men to chime in here and confirm this, but are soldiers not trained to change shoulders when leaning around a corner? from some of the fire arms training i received, we would switch from right shoulder to left if leaning around a left corner, and swap again when leaning right. we do this to reduce the area of exposure around the corner. could have it set up where tapping the lean key, the player automatically swaps shoulder in the direction of lean. this would eliminate the complaints of some people who would like to be left handed shooters in-game. so the lean keys would work kinda like a toggle where the weapon handling animations are flipped to what ever side the player wants. i think this would greatly improve the dynamics of weapon handling, and also help improve CQC ability. ever try to peak in a doorway by leaning left to look into the right side of a room with your weapon on your right hand?.. doesn't work very well, and you get hung up in the doorway. i think being able to swap shoulders would greatly help making room breach and clearing much easier, as you would enter with the muzzle of your weapon first and not get hung up on the door frame.

    don't count on it. the politicians and state officials fingers are super sticky, they'll have their arms in this shoulder deep. the general public will be lucky to see anything out of this. i was born and raised over there, and have no plans to ever set foot there again. i guess living in Canada has spoiled me, where our politicians sole ambition isn't corruption, and how to get rich off the working mans back.

  15. what i don't understand is why they choose to go with the XM8.. it never went into production. they should have gone with either the HK416/417 or the Remington/Bushmaster ACR instead. I'm not too keen on the XM8, it is just a G36 with a 70's retro tuxedo. im not a MW2 fanboy as i have not played that sorry excuse for a tactical FPS. the ACR is a sweet rifle that IS in production, and is far more likely to be used by PMCs than a non-existent re-skined G36.

    they should have made the weapons modular from the start. with proxies on the weapons so we can mount what ever we want. would have taken some more coding but at least it would be better then 10 full models of the same weapon with different attachments.

    exactly. with this system it would only render the points on your screen. for me it would be 1680x1050 or 1,764,000 points. it wouldnt matter if you had mirrors or transparent parts, or other effects, it's still 1.76 million points/frame. i can't wait for the first game to use this. even if the first few games are not really good, i would still buy them to help support this tech.

    well, when you free yourself from the limitations of current graphics tech, you are now free to spend more dev time on making a better game. what if BIS had this tech before they started on ArmA2, think of how much time they could have saved from optimizing ArmA2's performance and how that time could have been spent on game dynamics and campaign. if this tech really does work, then we wouldn't need our massive and expensive video cards. instead we would have dedicated physics cards, and that would be sweet.

  24. i have been having a reoccurring problem which started after i updated ACE. on Domination servers i get a missing file error "SFX Fire_SFX_v07 not found". im not sure if this is related to ACE or the server, but i get HUGE fires burning all over the island. like the airfield is completely covered in fire. it's been doing this for the last two weeks and the latest ACE update didnt fix it. it's really odd since i can join other servers running ACE and i dont have any issues.

    Dragon Rising has been released

    it's called 3D software rendering. none of the pre-release videos were "in game". the game runs like crap as is with the pre-2006 graphics, imagine how it would run with the graphics as seen in their rendered videos.
