What's the sign you play too much ArmA?
Zipper5 replied to Michael Withstand's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
They've actually fixed that now. Both setDammage and setDamage exist, and do exactly the same thing. :p -
I think we're kind of over analyzing this to be honest. :p

ArmA II: Operation Arrowhead discussion thread

It was back when graphics and sound were very big selling points in games (not saying they aren't still, but a crappy game would get great reviews in the first gen console age if it looked and sounded pretty) and in both of those areas OFP:E didn't do too well, thus it got lower scores. Really, if you look at the written reviews, that is why they lowered the score. I remember one that simply had the tag line "Open world combat... If you can make out the enemy through the blurred textures." Or something along those lines. -

So why the addition/removal of the ISAF and 82nd Airborne patches, and the visibility of them on the heatmaps? -
[For free] Proof of concept: weapon attachements
Zipper5 replied to [frl]myke's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
I recall a weapon attachment ability in FFUR for OFP. Granted when I used it at the time it wasn't very performance friendly, the game would stall for half a second while it changed the model. But I seem to recall it managing to add attachments while keeping the same ammo count, not reloading the weapon in the process... Or I could just be dreaming. -
Name a "bug" you've found, please, and we'll see if it's actually a bug. ;)

When you can hum the beats of every official song since OFP at a moment's notice. :D -

I dunno if anyone still cares, but this is something I noticed recently in regards to the ISAF and 82nd Airborne patches. See this picture, it's one of those VBS posters released before OA was. Note how the guy in front has an ISAF patch and the 82nd Airborne one. Perhaps the units were taken from VBS and put in OA, rather than taken from OA and put into VBS? I suppose it makes sense now that these guys have SCARs, what with them being originally 82nd Airborne, who IIRC have a couple of them. -
What was the last mission you got? There are 3 different "last missions" depending on what you do in Eye Of The Hurricane. The only one of those which sucked for me was the gunship one (Finishing Touch) because of how easy it was. Was that the one you got? Eye Of The Hurricane and Phoenix Op are both fun and challenging, in my opinion. If you liked Warfare in the Harvest Red campaign then you are one of the very small minority. Keep it out for good I say. It belongs in MP. Seems to be kind of an irrelevant task that you can do if you want but doesn't have an effect on the campaign, like keeping your friends happy in GTA IV. That being said I wonder if you completely turn them against you do they also turncoat and fight along side the Takistani Army and Militia... Personally I quite liked the campaign. Short and sweet with some excellent game play for the most part, despite the overall lack of story. Improvements could definitely be made, but I wasn't "disappointed" by it.

Probably DLC, yes.

Neither ACE SM nor HiFi currently replace the sounds of any of the weapons or vehicles introduced with OA. In regards to your question no, it isn't really possible for you to have it without using a mod. It's unfortunate indeed, but it's purpose is to keep a level playing ground where everyone sees and hears as much of the same things as possible. It also helps keeping some of the more rudimentary and basic cheats out. You may still be able to find a server or two which allow mods if they exist, however.

Of course, I go off of my own instincts too with games. It's disappointing for me to see BIS' games, my favorite games, get lower scores and half-assed reviews, but I disregard them as I myself enjoy playing the game, as do many others. I just like to point out their half-assedness sometimes, for shits'n'giggles. :D -
I introduce thee to punctuation. May it serve you well. So from what I understand your manual is in a bad shape (for what reason, exactly?) therefore you cannot read your CD key? Also, if you're getting errors like that then you're missing a lot of key content to the game, for some reason. The CPU (which is the Central Processing Unit, or Processor, which some people seem to confuse as their actual PC) will not store your CD key. I'm not sure if you can get it from your registries either. Since this happened after you installed 1.07 that leads me to believe you have a pirated version of the game that you didn't realize would be majorly f*cked up if you installed a legit patch over top of it, and are now trying to weasel your way into getting a CD key for free. Well, at least the way you formatted your post shows no indication for me to think otherwise... However, if this is a legitimate issue then contact Placebo via PM, and he'll try to help you out.

Why do all these "bad" reviews use press kit pictures instead of taking their own? If they aren't bothered enough to do it for the game it's funny how they were bothered to do it for the out of memory error... :j: -
As far as I know, ACE2 will be overriding the new beta recoil if you're using them in conjunction with each other, so the new recoil you speak of in your post, ahmedjbh, is just ACE2's same old recoil...

Well, if you own Arma 2 and OA, you could set the Russians to BLUFOR by changing their side in the mission.sqm file to WEST instead of EAST, and you could use the ChDKZ for the insurgents and perhaps use the new OA Arabian-looking faces to create some Chechens. Then use Elektrozavodsk or Chernogorsk or what have you for a woodland/urban area and voila, Chechen fighting. :p I do agree, though. A Chechen War pack for DLC would be pretty cool.

I'm gonna guess this is how BIS did the insertion at the beginning of Coltan Blues? It always seemed far too smooth and fast to be completely AI controlled. I could never replicate it without these commands. -

The same voice actor voices Terry Graves in OA. He's in many of BIS' (and even Black Element's) games. His voice is probably the most bearable of the current voice actors. :p -

Take these comments from this review, if you will: Now remember back to the story of Call of Duty 4. More specifically, the Middle-Eastern portions. Not only were one of the missions blatantly titled "Shock and Awe", but the city was made to look a lot like Baghdad, and they were looking for their military dictator Al-Asad, the game's own Saddam. Everyone praised Call of Duty 4's single player, including myself. No one said the way it represented the current day events were a bad thing. But apparently OA doing it is bad? Again, tell me who in Call of Duty 4's single player campaign had a significant personality outside of the usual Hollywood-bravado ""NNNNNNGGGGGGHNNNNN KILL TERRORISTS!!1one" *lifts weights while firing M203*" "soldier"? Heck, the main characters didn't even have a personality. They never even spoke! I'm not denying OA's characters lack personality, but why mark OA down because of it when it's okay for big games to have the same? Anyone who can't get the basics down after completing OA's extremely well-designed training missions should not be playing this game in the first place. There's no way they can't know by the end of them how to read the map and compass, follow waypoints & orders, move, and shoot their weapon. I'd like to ask the reviewer if he found it hard to learn how to play Call of Duty/Bad Company as well... That would say a lot. -
Very, very cute. :D I like the name too.

Fantastic news. This is an example that more should follow. :D And I agree with you, Placebo. I have a dog of my own, who I love very much, and to think of anything of this magnitude happening to her just breaks my heart. Heck, thinking of it happening to any dog has the same effect. It's great to see people volunteer to help these poor animals, and I tip my hat to them, as do I to anyone who supports their cause. :)

How will the installed user base change?

I would say that I'm thankful that OA would at least be worth the split, what with it's full-retail-game-but-not quality, unlike QG... -
