I would have chose either Javier Peinado's Red Army cover or Richards Grunte's Queen Gambit picture. Both look a thousand time better than the actual winner.

The CPU and RAM speed will be a big bottleneck for that 8800GTS. I have a similiar setup except i got a 6600GT and 2.4 Ghz CPU and i cannot play on high settings with good frame rates at all. I intend to get a Q6600 when its price drops and 2 GB RAM along with a 8800GTS or GTX depending upon the price when i go out to buy in a month or so. Btw can anyone tell me does ARMA make ANY use of the multi cores? Will the Quad enjoy any benefits over the dual cores? Also i've heard and seen people with 8800 getting random CTD's consistently in arma , whats the deal there? Its the high end card and its having troubles? How the hell do you play this game on HIGH then? Hows the 2900XT's response to arma aswell. If anyone can answer these queries they will greatly help me in my buying decisions. Those who already have similiar setups please give us a peformance run down of your experience in ArmA atm. Well there's a big difference between a 6600 GT and a 8800 GTS. BTW I know that the CPU will limit the VGA but it will still be a LOT better. To answer your question: no, not even dual-core processors enjoy any benefit over single-core processors in ArmA.

How do you think a 8800 GTS 230 MB, Pentium D 2.8 Ghz, 1 GB @ 400 Mhz RAM machine would run this game?
-
I didn't think we would get an expansion so fast, but it sounds cool. And IMHO ArmA's not a beta product anymore at all, so let this one coming. The desert island sounds great!

"I wasn't complaing about the optimization but it was a little strange to me because new games, like F.E.A.R., run grates on this PC with all the sentings high." I used to think the same when I had a 9600 SE in my PC, I thought that 15 FPS is great, but then after changing VGA i found out it's really in the monkey's ass.

Best game ever, and it will remain that until Game 2 comes out!
-
I agree with Celery, OFP simply sux after ArmA(well, except for the frame rate). I can't tell much about sniping, but they will spot you pretty fast if you shoot them from front.
-
Firstly, I agree on some points because they are true. Secondly, I don't know if beign called a fanboy is wether positive or negative, but flaming the dev isn't too nice either. I understand you just want to share your opinion so that BIS can make the game better, but you could do it more "gentlely". I bet BIS is sick of those bitching the game, they already know of the bugs. Thirdly, ArmA is a lot better in every aspect than OFP except for performance. How can you not like it? "Why do tanks drive through towns instead of around?" That's what is hardly an argument. If you mean, that in the official campaign, tanks go through towns where there are firefights, then it's the mission creator's fault, not the game's.
-
Woah Jambo, looks like all the reason you came here is to whine about the game. "For a game that looks 2-3 years" Well, it's absolutely not BIS' fault that you are blind. "old it runs crap, total utter crap" I have to agree. "Oblivion runs better" That proves how stupid you are. Oblivion runs a lot worse. 15 of those hellish-armored-looking guys degrades the damn FPS so much it becomes unplayable. "No support for Dual Core or proper Sli support - Sorry its 2007 this should be standard" Oh yeah? Tell me 5 PC titles that support DC. "Theres no animals or wildlife, no farm land or any of the above." There are farmlands in ArmA, sorry if you haven't noticed. Concerning the wildlife, I bet you don't miss them in OFP, why do you do so in ArmA then? Ai - it's true they're dumb at close combat, but they aren't worse than OFP's AI at all. In fact, they are very tricky at ranged combat. They flank you unnoticed and shoot you in the back if you stay at the same place for long. "Why are my team mates idiots?" "Why are vehicle/drivers so stupid?" They've learned that from you. "Why do tanks drive through towns instead of around?(if the better choice)" What are roads meant for? "Why do units shoot when orded not to?" Nerver experienced such thing, but surely you'd shoot too if someone got dangerously close to you even if you were ordered not to shoot. Animations - I guess it's impossible to satisfy everyone, but I love the new anims(though it's true that they look jerky from distance). I agree with some statements, but ArmA is a large scaled, not only in gameplay but also technically, and as such, it takes some time to perfect it. Play multipalyer, it's better and your teammates are not stupid.

Whoops really, I just noticed that! Thanks anyway.

Noob question: what's that command line I need to make the game use a modfolder?
-
Hi there, I've been playing SWBF2 today and realised how crappy it is, so my question is: is there any Star Wars mod in developement for ArmA? I can't wait to sweep through Sahrani with a bunch of stormtroopers.
-
Well, sadly that mod looks pretty much like dead, ther's barely some activity on their forum. Hopefully they just don't have time to spend on their forums but that's doubtful.
-
Thanks for the answers, I think I'll post some questions on GaW forum then. Telejunky: you've made a really cool pilot model, everything matches with the original except for the helmet.
-
Dont buy either of those. They have nice amount of RAM and a cool CPU but those video card in 'em are very weak. So everyting in them is cool except for the VGA, you should have a customized PC built for you with an Nvidia 8800 or 8600 series VGA plus the other things that one of the PCs you suggested have.
-
No, it sucks even on a 7600 GT. You gotta buy a better mobo, there are cheap and reliable ones (like mine) that support PCIE. Then buy something from the 8600 or 8800 series(or from Ati 2900 series). Oh and btw the mobo I have also supports Core 2 Duos.
-
IMHO OFP's the crappy game and ArmA is kick butt.
-
I think it will run ArmA on mostly high settings with good performance. Regarding the other guy's question: no, a 7600 GT is not good enough for it, sadly I experience that myself.
-
ArmA takes place in 2006. There's a blog of an "imaginery" US soldier who serves on Sahrani, and the dates in his "photographs"(ingame pictures) have the date of 2006 in them. I hope I'm clear.
-
It's not a bug but a feature. You know, it's hard to swim with 20 kg of gear.
-
The patch sadly haven't brought me any performance speed-up.
-
Still, it will be possible to walk inside/on moving and standstill vehicles in Game2. Edit: that is already stated.
-
It' pretty much the reverse for me. The OFP islands were too small and they did not have insteresting landscaped, but Sahrani (more like Norther-Sahrani) is amazingly cool.
-
Don't tell me it's normal that our 7600 GTs are struggling on normal-low settings when an X1950Pro can run it maxed out...It's only 2000 marks better than a 7600 GT (in 3DMark05)
