  1. Similar for me - while the installation ran fine from my SATA DVD-RW drive, I could not run it because it timed out every time. But there is no problem with the IDE DVD-ROM drive Regarding performance, I ran ArmA2-Mark with different PostProcess setting, scoring better than ArmA2 with Very Low (>5200), but worse with Low (~4700) and Normal (~4200); set to Low in ArmA2 scores >5000. Leaving it on Low, the ArmA2 Benchmarks in OA (1.52) score slightly lower as well (19 & 39 vs. 21 & 41). The OA Benchmark scores 37, iirc. Look and feel is overall very nice - so far just played a bit with the Editor and some of the very nice new Tutorial missions. Looking optimistic in the future (even though OA has some serious competition with Beergardens and World Cup...) :D
  2. A question to them lucky ones that already play the OA: when installing in addition to an existing ArmA2 installation, will the player profiles (incl. keyboard/audio/video/... setup) be used/imported from ArmA2 or has a new one to be created? As it is still "just" an Expansion, I'd imagine so, but as it took me quite a while to get to my current setup it would still be interesting to know...

New Beta Build 71726 is up

I tested the new beta yesterday, among others also running ArmAIIMark, but no freeze or anything. I had no problems at all, everything running just fine...
  4. I hope this will happen not too much as I foresee similar things as last time, when people got the game early and BIS had not yet released the first patch. The result are the first user reviews with unpatched games, ignoring the progress made with the latest Beta-Patches...

The official football World Cup 2010 in SA thread

May I kindly disagree: First, the referee certainly overdid it with the yellow cards, but he did so equally against both teams. Klose was just fool enough to make the same error twice, and none of the serbs were kind enough to do the same... Second, it is not like Germany was much better. Well, a draw might have been fair overall, but if I say that then there is always the chance for one team to score the winning goal. And Serbia had also more than just this one chance. Anyway, depending on the result tomorrow (Ghana - Australia), this will make for very interesting last group matches on Wednesday (Ghana - Germany, Australia - Serbia). Assuming Ghana wins tomorrow, and in the last games Germany and Serbia then they will all have 6 points  (except the Aussies...) But admittedly, on the way back to the office the polish colleague that watched the game with me had a hard time :D (Klose and Podolski have polish roots)
  6. I played the Armory completely through (on Utes) before I entered the rest of the game (old PC back then, which could not handle Chernarus and/or many units) and this particular challenge must have been the hardest - I think I finished it only two or three times. Eventually I started kind of cheating it, picking some serious firepower (tank, chopper attack plane) and shelled/bombed the hell out of some parts of the village, with the tank I ran over some fences. But you have to be careful, e.g. not dropping certain trees and the like. The damage done will pertain as long as you don't quit the armory, which, after switching to firearms, makes detecting and engaging certain targets much easier. Of course, as I said, one might consider this cheating...

    Medic - do something

It's not that simple as to have a routine that sends the medic to the first/next injured soldier. Sometimes it makes more sense to send the wounded guy to the medic instead. Depending on the situation you might also have different priorities in which order wounded soldiers should get patched up. To sum it up, it's up to the situation what the medic should do, and it is up to the squad leader to evaluate the situation and issue the appropriate orders.

The ArmA 2 tips 'n trick thread

One might also note that the same is possible with the Multiplayer Editor/Wizard - a thrilling way to familiarize yourself with a city having a DM/TDM in it. Also possible offline with/against AI!
  9. Started with OFP end of June '01, joined the forum in October. Playing ArmA2 nowadays, but not as often as I'd like to

    Is 16:10 the way forward?

For me 16:10 seems to be the preferable ratio, especially if work with documents and the like. yet, when I bought my new PC, I went with a 16:9 for other reasons (e.g. price, non-glare,...). But I got me a slightly bigger one, 23" 2048x1152 and I am quite happy with it.

    Helo rearm question

No need to land - you can rearm while hovering ~1-2m above ground. No need for Autohover either - it might actually help but I never needed it. Just fly close to the truck and eventually you will get the Rearm/Refuel/Repair-Option - might have to bank a little left or right and around the truck to find the 'sweet spot' but nothing impossible if you are used to the controls (and I am using Mouse+Keyboard!). Obviously it helps if the truck is parked in clear and level terrain. Regarding the gunner switching weapons, select manual fire and just tell the Gunner to Eject over the enemy base :D Obviously this is going to make it hard to use the machinegun of certain choppers, as the AI gunners are actually quite useful to bust trucks with it, e.g. in an Mi24... But as I seem unable to hit anything with the guided missiles of the Mi24 I actually don't care that much if one is wasted. I actually got quite good at 'sniping' with the unguided rockets.

    2,3,4 take a bath!

But the AI just learned from ArmA1 to ArmA2 to avoid open streets while in combat stance - so it is no big surprise that it really does so :p :D

    ArmA2 crash to desktop

I also have that CTD in DoW when trying to save the game, but to me v1.59025 has not changed the problem. Here the slightly edited arma2.rpt dump: This is a screenshot from the ProcessExplorer after the crash showing how the memory consumption of the ArmA2 process keeps growing and then jumps further up when trying to save and staying there after the crash: This is maybe about 1/2h of gameplay. Note also the ArmA2 line of the ProcessExplorer I copied in the screenshot, showing ArmA2 to consume 2GB of memory, though the graph just peeks at 1.6GB. As shown in the .RPT I used maxmem=2047 - I am now considering to try with a lower value (1.4-1.7GB), trying to accomodate for the peek that apparently happens with the save. But that will have to wait until tonight or tomorrow... My save is about 95MB big, zipped still 10MB, so I saved me that upload, as I'd imagine that it should be reproducible with the save at the community tracker as well. My system is listed in my signature.
  15. I have a Sapphire Vapor-X HD4890 1GB Cat. 9.8 on Vista64 @2048x1152 and don't have this problem. Occassionally it might take a second or three to load some textures but no artifacts as shown in the screenshots in this thread. Rest of my config. in my signature.

    Warfare Commander Menu Gone?

Not sure whether we are talking here editor or in-game. In-game in high command mode it is possible to change the type of a waypoint. Per default it is "MOVE TO", if you right-click on it, you get a new menu where you can change the type of waypoint (e.g. GET OUT, GUARD, ...), stance, formation, and other things more. The small Training mission has one step covering this.

    next patch? performance?

Problem with that would be that the beta files would go from 30MB to 300MB+ in no-time if they added all fixed models.

    Saving Games CTD

This issue has already a ticket in the Community Tracker http://dev-heaven.net/issues/show/3657. You might vote for it and add some additional information. I have this problem in "Dogs of War", already pretty far in the mission.

    Formations getting messed up

Could it be that they are in combat stance and just try to find cover and protect in all directions?!

    Spawn units inside a vehicle.

You might have better asked this in the Editing section, but anyway. If I am not totally mistaken, on the right-hand side of the unit screen in the editor is a drop-down list with various options, e.g. "In Formation", the one for you would be "In Cargo" or something along that line.
  22. And the UAV that I used to blow up the tank with the comfort of sitting at FOB Manhattan.

    UAV Destroyed?

Regarding the UAV in Razor 2, there is a Shilka that you can kill with it. Should make the travelling in the chopper more safe... There is another tank, but my UAV always crashed when the AI wanted to target it, so I stayed away from that one :j: Of course, you can also always use it to explore the map. I once used it to track the movement of a car driving north, eventually stopping at the northern camp. Alas, when I checked out (after going to Dressler and Marny before), there was just the usual gang there - I guess it was Bardak, but as there was quite some time in between i guess he moved on already... In Manhattan I used it to search the Chedaki main (easy) and satelite bases (not that easy). Regarding the chopper, as you found out, when calling it you can do this in the normal 'FPS-view' - you should be looking at some clear and level space when issueing the command (I use the keyboard sequence 0-8-1-1 to do so). As you said, the destination you give in the map view by point and click on the map when asked. But note that while travelling you can change that destination again by giving a new order (0-8-1-1 again) - e.g. you can assign a better landing zone or a completly different target. Note also that via the map you can call the chopper also to a different place further away and currently not visible to you. E.g. if you intend to walk from A to B and have the chopper waiting there already.

    UAV Destroyed?

Killing tanks with its Hellfires worked quite nice for me.

    where i can buy/get nvgoggles??

If you can't find the dead bodies in the dark you can also order a squad member to pick up the NVGs via the Action menu (Fx-6-???). Afterwards you can go up to them and swap stuff around.
