Arma 2 Addon request thread
Tankbuster replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
That depends on your definition of 'the point'. I remain to be convinced that a former WWII battleship has a place in this game. As eye candy, perhaps, but what possible use would it be in a game that is essentially, a light infantry simulator? -

Don't put yourself out just on my account, chap Really good to see you working away on this game. I'm especially looking forward to some thoroughly unsafe flying in the Lynx. :) They were a real joy to chuck around. -
Will my PC Run this? What CPU/GPU to get? What settings? System Specifications.

An E2200? It's a wonder he can run the OS, let alone the game. -

Husky, previously know as Navistar MXT-MV (Military Extreme Truck - Military Version). The Americans know how to think up a catchy name don't they? :) Anyway, I snapped the above here in the UK as the vehicle was on it's way to Dytecna. There's going to be hundreds of them in the sandbox in the coming years. Just a thought if you're not busy. :P -
That's the whole point of the INKO disposable addon, Raznor09.

Ah, I didn't read what he was talking about because I didn't read far back enough in the topic. I thought he was on about general JIP yellow chains, rather than specifically time of day discrepancies. I didn't know that all clients were synced when a client JIP'd. So, while I catch up, is this problem fixed in 1.09 or should we all be making code changes like you did above?

Question about server bandwidth
Tankbuster replied to l mandrake's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
For regular players this mission download shouldn't be a problem. It's only downloaded the first time a given client joins the server. For subsequent joins (for that player), if the mission file is unchanged, he won't download it again. -
This might degrade into the old realism vs fun gameplay debate. :)
-
So.... If we accept that most users are not going to use INKO disposable AND play Domination/Evolution, M136 is redundant.
-
Agreed, but unless your targets are lightly armoured, you're going to need 2 M136 per target, where 1 SMAW rounds would probably do the job.

Question about server bandwidth
Tankbuster replied to l mandrake's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
Not at all. I can happily punt 6 players around my server with 768Kb/s upload. -
Unlikely. I'd suggest he was seeing different results because of the different server setups he was connecting to.

Question about server bandwidth
Tankbuster replied to l mandrake's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
20Mb/s down and 768Kb/s up for that connection, but Virgin are rolling out a 50Mb/s which has 1.5Mb/s upload. Ive been hosting mi dedi box on the 20/.76 connection for ages. It can cope with 6-7 players with no problems. -
I had forest fires working fine in arma 1.04, domination 1.03 I'm fine tuning 'tactical forest fires' :) with a little skill and a lot of luck, you can take down AI using forest fire. Mind you, I am still using the last testing beta, I really should get to the final version.

Being able to map double tap buttons to keyboard is a wonderful feature. When we have so many controls and keystrokes it's a god send. I particularly like one that was suggested to me; 'ctrl e' once for 'get out', 'ctrl e X 2' for eject. Makes so much sense. But I can't make this work for joystick. I'd like to have single tap on a joystick button for 'get out' and doubletap the same button for 'eject'. If this can't be made to work from the game interface, is it possible do do it via a file edit?

Having spawned forest fire a different colour was useful in testing. We would crash aircraft into forests (it was a hard grind... no fun at all) to start fires and having the actual aircraft fire a different colour from the spawned fire help us bugfixing. Now that we've moved on, perhaps we should have the actual fire colour dependent on *what is actually being burnt*. Perhaps building alight should be yellow, while trees should be be orange?

It was motherboard software shouting 'danger'?

I've suddenly started getting these emails this afternoon after not getting them for a number of weeks. -
I did read it, but thought I could expand on your understanding of it. Hope it helped. :)

You can get ammo crates from the MHQ if you've got "old ammo crate handling" turned on in the game. Look for my posts in the domination thread where I asked for this old feature to be brought back as an option in later versions of the game. If you don't enable this, you can call in ammo drops from a C130. You can call them to be dropped where you need them (the drops are quite accurate) or you can have them dropped on the airfield and then load them into the MHQ.
