    Voices/Radio etc.

Can anybody help me? I just created my first ever mission, and I would like to release it only it needs finishing touches. I am planning on using voices and radio commands from the game but I don't know how. Can anybody tell me how? Or else send me to a decent tutorial?

    Issueing commands

alright how can I insert sounds/voices so that I can use them to issue orders through the radio to other squads? Like "Alpha ready GO GO GO!"

    Fia

Well it would make logical sense if it were a Czech acronym (the island apparent native language), but I doubt it was really thought about, just slapped on the vehicles without much thought by the designers...I mean really it needent mean anything. I like to think it means something like Malden Islands Freedom Fighters ...only in Czech... but I don't know Czech ...so I can't help you there... Of course if they were a sinicle pessimistic militia then maybe 'F*cked In the Arse' would be fitting... Jubs

    Chopper cannons

I find the keyboard difficult to use when flying anything. I have tried it, but I find I cannot have nearly the same sort of control as I would when using the mouse. I use the mouse all the time and I find it perfectly adiquate and consider myself a damned good pilot. Using the mouse gives you a far greater response and feels just right, particularly for low altitude flight. If I am flying quick and the air is safe I fly just above the tree line. If there are enemys about then I'll fly as close to the ground as possible, jumping up to avoid obsticles such as trees, buildings, rocks...people. When enguaging soft targets not likely to fight back I'll strafe an try to keep as straight a line of fire as possible for the gunners ease with the chain gun. If I am enguaging tanks or AA then I'll use 'pop-up' tactics. If I want to look around I use the keyboard, but I rarely have to. Jubs

    Concusion

Hey, I was hoping someone might have some ideas of how I could simulate mild concusion on the character with a trigger or a script. I thought maybe I'd download a sound effect from somewhere online to simulate something like this. Maybe some combat ambiance that I could warp and make echoey with some sort of sound utility and then have it triggered with and explosion. However, for this to work I figured I'd have to have all other sounds dim dramatically whilst this sound effect played. But it occured to me that what I could do is just have the sounds drop alot after this explosion goes off, to simulate like the hearing of the character has been disrupted. This could hopefully create enough confusion that the effect might be achieved on it's own. The sound would then come back after about 15-20 seconds to simulate the characters recovery. But how I could do this I don't know...anyone have any ideas? Jubs

Thanks bn880. I'll give that a go see how it works. Better get that sound recorded. I don't suppose anyone has it to hand or knows if it is available anywhere out there do they? Thanks Jubs

    Concusion

This isn't for a cutscene. The fade to black is a good idea, one that I will probably be using anyway. The mission starts you by a damaged M113 (you've just jumped out) all your team and the gunner (who is still alive at this point) are all around you using the M113 as cover and shooting at various enemies littering the street. The commanders waypoint is set to run away from the M113 and too cover, your teams units will make there way that way when they are not enguaging. About 10 meters from the M113 all around are triggers that will blow it up after 15 seconds (simulating a fuel leak or something similar). Beta testing shows that on average about 15 seconds after this trigger has been tripped the player has moved just out of the range to get hurt by the explosion (which is good), but I'd like to create some sort of concusion. I'm am trying to explain it as best I can. Try to remember the opening scene of Saving Private Ryan when the main dudes hear keeps going. It has since occured to me what I could do if it were possable (as well as have a second of so of black fade) is to have the sound effect for your heart rate increasing and breathing gettting heavier (as if you were sprinting). Does anyone know how this could be done? It would obviously need to go hand in hand with the rest of the world being silenced. Thankyou, Jubs

    F-16 final version

dkraver: Unfortunately the OFP engine does not support more than one type of missile animation per vehicle. Meaning for example you can't have both Mavericks and Smart Bombs. You can however have missiles and rocket pods, because they work in much the same way as a guns within the engine. This is why all the addons out there have just Sidewinders or Mavericks or Smart Bombs and not a realistic combination of many different armourments. It is a shame because a realistic load out is imposible. shernt250: The lighting on the aircraft I seem to remember is generic and can not be altered. Jubs

Jubs<span id='postcolor'> Wasnt disagreeing at all. just pointing out that for Soviet forces, it would be a bit early, therefore, better for the Resistance. For the Commies, how about one of the "Hush Puppies" that they loved so much? Mind you, the AI may not be able to use it properly.<span id='postcolor'> Actually, the Stechkin entered service in 1951. Ok...whilst not modern, it makes the Tokarev seem positively ancient (it entered service in 1930...and is in the game). It did cease manufacture in 1975, however, when the AKSU-47 was developed, but a few still remain in use. I would love to see it in game...but for the Russians... Jubs

    Silenced pistols?

Just a reply to what few people have said. Ran...the Stechkin is not a SMG, it is a pistol. But I can understand where you are coming from. It was originally used as such in Soviet forces, but it was replaced by the more reliable AKSU versions of the AK47 in the early 1970s. The fully automatic feature could achieve 850 rds/min. Marshmanguy...sure in fully automatic, held as a pistol the gun is uncontrollable. But it is very practical at a rate of about 80 rds/min fired in short bursts with a butt-stock attached. Commonly (and with this models case) the butt-stock aslo acts as the pistol's holster. Wardog...yes the Stechkin was very often fitted with a silencer and why as an option for the resistance? The Stechkin was issued to officers and NCOs of verious Soviet units. Anyway...that's enough of me... Jubs

    Military bases

It is definately open to interpretation. I don't believe any of these places mentioned are military installations. The ones on Everon, Kolgujev and Malden are obvious...but there is nothing like that on Nogovo. But it doesn't matter...does it? Jubs

    Who was the tasmanian devil?

Doesn't Victor know who it is? Right when he first hears 'Tasmanian Devil' in the cutscene he mutters to himself 'Tasmanian Devil, Tom...' and then one of the other resistance members comes up to him and says 'Who is Tasmanian Devil?' and Victor goes 'mmm...I have no idea...' But who the hell Tom is I anyones guess! I think he is the guy who gives you the lift into town in his car in the first mission. Jubs

Can you kill any reds the first mission?

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote (PFC_Mike @ July 30 2002,06:18)</td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">How did the Soviets enter afghanistan?<span id='postcolor'> Pretty much as they do in Nogova. The Soviets were never famed for their subtle entrances into their neighbours countries. They often swayed elections to fall in their favour and turn the country communist before rolling the tanks in. As they did with many east European countries. This was more often than not peaceful however. But the odd occasion springs to mind when the local people would do anything in their power to piss the advancing tanks right off...like in Hungary when the people of Budapest spilled drums off soap infront of the tanks so they lost their traction before setting light to them. This started a war...which the Russians were very enthusiastic about winning. All the west could do was watch from the Austrian boarder and hurry refugees across whilst the Russians on the other side of the boarder dealt harshly with anyone that tried to cross over. It was in direct contradiction of the American Marshall plan that the Hungarians urged the US to put into effect...but the west couldn't risk starting a war with the Soviets. In Afganistan they weren't prepared to take any shit and just went in guns blazing with Spetz Natz operations and massive tank assaults on civilian populations. They assumed the take over would be easy. But the approach they took was understandably unpopular and the Afgans really dug their heals in. Americans sent in CIA agents to train the resistance members with many weapons, namely the Stinger missile...which was used to great effect. The Resistance campaign quite closely reflects this approach. Somewhat realistically portraying the Russians as underestimating small civil populations. It isn't too far fechted to believe that the Russians might have assaulted a small island group in this fashion. Jubs

Can you kill any reds the first mission?

Just thought I'd post to the people talking about taking the bus and the cars and such...you know that your motorbike is ready for you to take it don't you? If you talk to the mechanic it adds to the storyline and then he tells you that you need to fill her up...so you take it to the petrol/gas station where you hear the president on the radio talking about members of the government going to Moscow. You then ride on to your office in the capital where you hear more on the radio and get the usual cutscene. When the 'reds' storm the city all you have to do is run down the stairs and hop on your bike before going home. If you wait alittle before leaving the office your character says to himself...better go back north...seems to be the safest place...by stealing guns and fighting you ruin the storyline, especially since you don't get your gun back in the next mission. Plot deficiencies

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote (PFC_Mike @ July 25 2002,06:42)</td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">Is it just me, or is the plot for resistance really contrived? First, Nogova had no armored forces. So why did the Soviets bring an incredible amount of RPG's and other AT weapons? Second, why did Guba decide to use the Su-25's? The Mi-17's could have destroyed Petrovice and Lipany in 15 sec with the 57mm rockets. And why didn't the Russians use the helos more effectively? They could have struck at any known resistance camps very quickly...maybe 5 minutes transit time Victor was able to get to the airport, so why can't you put craters in the runway? It would really slow down any effort to used fixed-wing A/C. And what value was there on Nogova? It has no apparent industries, no strategic value, just nothing. And why was there a deserton an otherwise lush island? Just a few of the inconsistencies I've noticed.<span id='postcolor'> Well just want to comment on the original statement. 'First, Nogova had no armored forces. So why did the Soviets bring an incredible amount of RPG's and other AT weapons?' In one of the opening cut-scenes you hear the president calling for Nogovas armed force to lay down it's weapons. However, I do not believe this to mean armour, but small arms. But you must remember that RPGs and other 'Anti-tank' weapons are not used by armed forces solely as anti-armour weapons. They are also used against bunkers and temporary and permenant structures. Also I believe the attack on Nogova to be the first step on a full scale attack on the nearest main land (wherever that may be), a step stone if you like for a full campaign. By setting up your armed forces hear you limit the risk of having to transport troops and equipment those extra miles to the intended location. They assumed on no resistance and for a take over to be very easy. They assumed wrong, and the resistance took advantage of all the equipment the Russians brought with them. 'Second, why did Guba decide to use the Su-25's? The Mi-17's could have destroyed Petrovice and Lipany in 15 sec with the 57mm rockets. And why didn't the Russians use the helos more effectively? They could have struck at any known resistance camps very quickly...maybe 5 minutes transit time. He used SU-25s for fear factor. A very large percentage of war is psycological. You needent have the best trained soldiers or the most technological equipment, but show an impression of force and severity and the the enemy moral is sapped and victory is marginally easier. Many enemies may even flee. For example...Why did the Spanish send the airforce and battleships to that small island no bigger than a football pitch just north of Moroco the other week? They reoccupied it with just six soldiers...but they did flybys with jets and itimidated the hell out of the Morocans with a hell of alot of Navy power. This show of power, ultimately probably prevented further conflict. The Morocans weren't going to have anything to do with it after the Spanish had showed off alittle. Also, as some have already said. The resistance may have AA weapons which would make short work of any low and relatively slow flying helicopters, just like in Afganistan. Maybe they had learnt from the mistakes made in Afganistan a few years before when hundreds of Soviet Mi-24s and Mi-17s had been groundred by Afgan rebels with American Stingers. After all, they had underestimated the resistance force on Nogovo, who was to expect such a backlash...if all had gone to plan then transporting by foot soldiers, trucks and armoured colomns would have been perfectly adequete and far cheaper. Transprt across such a small island by chopper is economically unsound. 'Victor was able to get to the airport, so why can't you put craters in the runway? It would really slow down any effort to used fixed-wing A/C.' Putting substantial craters in a runway would require some sort of depth charge. Satchel charges blow in a specified direction away from the back plate and would only render negligible damage to tarmac that could be fairly quickly retified. Besides the mission you are on about is an anti-helicopter mission. 'And what value was there on Nogova? It has no apparent industries, no strategic value, just nothing. And why was there a deserton an otherwise lush island?' It is a launch pad for further campaigns on a nearby mainland...as previously explained. The reason there is an apparent desert is because of a band of rock with ony limited topsoil that is regurally weathered by the coastal climate meaning that little to no vegetation can grow in a reasonable wide area...this does happen in real life, like in limestone areas for example. Convienenty for the inhabitants it is big enough to home a runway and small airport. That'll do, Jubs

The Red star simply symbolizes Soviet Union. AKA Red Army.<span id='postcolor'> mmm...maybe you should go back to 8th grade. The communist regime fell in 1989. Russia and the satellite states are no longer refered to as the Soviet Union. But are a collection of newly independent countries and the Russian Federation, a newly democratic country. The MiG-29 was designed under a communist regime. It is communist equipment. But that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Duing the cold war the Russians were at the forefront of such tecnology. Largely thanks to the mear existance of the communism in place. Believe it or not but it was very effecient, if it weren't I don't think most of Europe would have fallen under their power and America wouldn't have been that concerned. Just a shame that it didn't go as planned and corruption in government and within the military brought down the system. The Red Star used to sysbolise the Red Army, yes...but this is not the same thing as the Soviet Union as you have expressed. The Red Army was the Soviet Union's army. Red because it is the symbol of revolution and a star (I assume) because it is a striking and prominant symbol. The Russian Federation Air Force still uses the Red Star today (but this doesn't mean that they are communist). Jubs
