  1. This. So sick of the ungrateful crap that comes from some members of that community, if it weren't for BIS then they wouldn't even be playing Day Z. I'll be glad if it becomes a separate game, honestly - BIS has already made a tonne of money from it, so Day Z moving away, uncluttering our server lists and letting us go back to being a happy little niche community wouldn't be a bad thing. Being a niche community is by no means a bad thing, rather the opposite - it keeps the more undesirable sort away. I also agree with this. Whilst it does get irritating putting up with the ungrateful types, the rest of Day Z's community is fairly decent. And if you don't like it, you can just ignore it, it's not like you're forced to play either.

Army of the Czech Republic DLC

Preordered it! Can't wait until it comes out, more stuff to play with is always great.
  3. This is great and all, but would this not be better over on the Day Z forums? I don't think its biggest fans are to be found here.
  4. Pros: It brings in a large amount of money for BIS, who can put that money into ArmA 3 or other future ventures. It accelerates development of beta patches, apparently. Cons: It overshadows ArmA. Reputable gaming news sites report on Day Z and seem to completely ignore the base game. Although, this may not be a bad thing: It could keep the less than desirable sort away. It brings a lot of teamkillers and griefers who don't understand that the way you behave in Day Z and the way you behave in ACE/ACRE or PR or even Vanilla scenarios is NOT the same. Acting like you would in Day Z is a non-Day Z server is just going to upset a lot of people, and I feel that the people coming from Day Z won't understand this without incidents occurring. The server browser is FULL of the Day Z servers. It makes it far harder to find an actual game to join, although BIS could use this as an excuse to work on the server browser. Look at Team Fortress 2's browser, it has favourites, friends lists, etc. Very convenient. Personally, I don't enjoy playing Day Z. It desyncs far too much, the loading screens take all day to get past and I've only ever been able to connect to a server with my friends once. Every other time I tried, at least one of us got a 'could not connect' error due to either lag or odd server mods. I also think that it's just the next Minecraft. It's a fad (possibly a long one like Minecraft was) but it won't last forever. Players will eventually get bored and move onto the next big thing. We've just got to weather this storm and see if it brings us anything good.

    J.S.R.S. 1.5

Again, I ask you Jarhead: Are the explosion sounds for ACE's claymores and other mines meant to be so loud? I am siding on the side of it being a bug, but I am not sure what you intended them to sound like.

    J.S.R.S. 1.5

Jarhead, are you able to check the sounds for ACE's landmines? They seem a little excessive to me, not sure if it's intended or not.

    J.S.R.S. 1.5

Because I didn't download the mod originally with SIX updater, and deleting it all and reinstalling it seems like a rather silly thing to do. Many thanks! Armaholic saves the day again.

    J.S.R.S. 1.5

Hi there! I'm looking for the download of 1.4.3, but I can't seem to find a link, other than the SIX updater which I'd rather not use. The fs.dao.nu link doesn't appear to work for me. Any chance of an alternate mirror? Thanks.

Should I Start With Arma II, or OA?

I'm pretty sure I've seen it on disc in GAME and Gamestation here in the UK, but I may be mistaken. You can either buy both and merge them which essentially gives you CO (Just takes a little longer to setup) or buy CO from Sprocket and burn the files to disc as backup. Buying from Sprocket means the majority of the money goes to BIS, which is always nice to know.

Recommended Joystick for ArmA 2, Battlefield, Etc?

Had a Saitek ST290 Pro for years, never looked back. It's not programmable like a lot of sticks these days, but I don't see that as a problem. I never understood the appeal of setting buttons to copy keyboard actions, instead of just binding the action to the button ingame.

    Garish light and whistle remove?

I think he means the suppression effects.
  12. Just a heads-up; we have .PBOs and .CFGs here, not .DLLs and .INIs (unless of course, you use extra library stuff like armalib, as Pufu mentioned, but generally that's a rarity) ;)
  13. No-one using grid co-ordinates anymore? Would make it so much easier for people to tell what location you're talking about.
  14. EDIT: Ignore, figured out the issue now, was caused by the 1.56 patcher not being run properly.

    Exploiting The Game?

Well, seeing as how in ArmA, an MBT can be immobilised by shooting a few SAW mags into it's tracks, that's not really a well-modelled argument unfortunately. In real life, you have a good point, but it doesn't really translate all that well into ArmA.

Driving Wheel on ArmA2 or OA/CO

It works, I've run a racing wheel with the game before, makes driving stuff like Humvees a lot easier. It's amazing how much easier it is to drive quickly and avoid obstacles with a wheel.
  17. Hence, making it a wine/linux problem.
  18. It's probably not the fact that you don't like Star Trek, and more the fact that you confused Star Trek for Battlestar Galactica. ;)

North Korea shells the South, South retaliates

All very good and well, but I can see 2 minor problems with this: 1) Not exactly a good idea to just start bombing a country until it does something of a big enough scale to warrant it, that's generally called overkill and is often frowned upon. 2) I'm not sure South Korea would enjoy having to rebuild their whole capital city from the piles of rubble that would be left... It's like, you know, their capital city and stuff. Kind of important place.

    Need for Speed SHIFT 2

I'm interested simply because it has the FIA GT1 cars in it. From the video, the Nissan sounded pretty good, not too far from what real life, so that's promising.

    A10 and radar

Tbh, the A-10 shouldn't even have a radar, seeing as it doesn't in real life. However, it should warn you that the Tunguska is locking on to you (using its Radar Warning Reciever) as the Tunguska uses a radar to track the target. The missile itself is a SACLOS system though, which works like the current ingame TOW missiles in that the missile follows the reticule of the gunner's sights. North Korea shells the South, South retaliates

Yeah, because that wouldn't irradiate parts (if not most) of South Korea and China at all now would it? Not to mention the fact that other world superpowers may get just a little twitchy after watching a whole country get turned into a radiation-blasted wasteland. If all it takes to level a country with nukes is a sunken ship and a few artillery rounds, then people are going to start to wonder just how little provocation it takes to push the big red button.

That's genius! Hope to see one for the iPhone soon enough. :D

USA Politics Thread - *No gun debate*

I stopped reading and started laughing here. Seriously, if you expect to win a war against NATO, then good luck with that. You'll sure need it.
  25. That'll teach me to spend a few days away from the forums. :p
