Yeah I've thought some emotion here and there wouldn't go amiss. As long as it isn't like Brothers In Arms' "brotherhood" (or lack of it) I'm OK with it.

That would b be great!

I posted those scans a few months ago here. The latest articles have yet to be scanned and posted for the community -
Perhaps in ArmA2 proves itself, ArmA3 will include those things and more They could be in ArmA2 but I don't think the emphasis is on ragdolls.

Yeah Codemasters joined Steam and will be selling the games full price on there, so it only follows that OFP2 will be included unless the partnership goes tits-up. -
Thanks for the translations Deadfast, really informative. Also thanks to those who put the vids on YouTube. This game may indeed turn out to be great but to think there's still a year of development left, for even more to be included.

Shader Model 3.0 is in ArmA 2 if I read it correctly, HeatSeeker. If the AI can take cover, be suppressed, pathfind well then I'll be happy. In addition, if there are options to add more detail textures, longer distance of shadows (looked good in the vid) and good-looking distance shots (ie perhaps grass appears if you zoom in on a distant area) then I'd be ecstatic. EDIT: Also It'd be great if there were advanced options players could change themselves like grass viewdistance and how far away shadows are drawn. Would be great for screenshots and as hardware improves, we can enable more options Still, I'd prefer changes on the gameplay side over graphics.

Thanks so much [CAVE]guerilla! Interesting read.

Some excellent ideas, but as you say it's only a few of those all-important details that will make or break the immersion of a game. To make a game such as this what we truly want it to be would take so much work. Still, as technology progresses more and more of these things will be implemented and hopefully in a few years we'll get a truly amazing combat simulator
-
Nice idea. As games move further technology wise, more and more of these things will be implemented. As it becomes possible and there is spare time and graphics memory then these things will be standard in most games. Crysis style graphics will be in every game in under 5 years.

The good thing about being a consumer is that if you don't like something, you can not use it.

Any chance of a scan from the magazine, or an online link? Thanks. -
Knifes and Garrotes are not only Rambo's weapons!
SaBrE_UK replied to [ukf] john r.'s topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
It would be great, but it's hardly the main focus in a large-scale combat game. If all these great ideas were included the game would take forever to create. I'm fine with a bit of a wait but it'd be a bad decision for BIS' finances. -

OFP sold over a million copies, so there is definitely a big market for the style of game. Since OFP2 and ArmA2 are both coming out on consoles it's likely that even more people will "discover" the war simulation genre and become fans. Reread the article, and you'll see they do want to include all the things that the OFP community loved, including the moddability. -
The viewdistance of 10-15KM is absolutely fine for what the game is meant to be
-
Yeah cool incursions such as that would be great for immersion.
-
Whatever the size it'll hopefully be very detailed This dev blog is great, can't wait for more news.
-
Sounds great Cannon Fodder- the AI has the potential to actually be great. Can't wait to see how it turns out.

Happy birthday!

Indeed improved helicopter simulation would be a good move, but fixed-wing fighter jets are a no no at today's technology stage.
-
Thanks for that, Raptor

Aircraft was never the main focus in OFP or ArmA. BIS have made them fine IMO. If you want a flight simulator, buy one. It's sort of like me asking for iron-sights in Quake. Asking them to make them totally realistic is like asking President Bush to travel to the moon in the next few seconds: Futile and it's not needed. There's also so much about ArmA2 and today's hardware that prohibit BIS from adding aircraft as more than a minor addition to the ground combat.
