  1. I have inserted a Cargo Container (open) that I want to have closed doors (both sides) at the beginning, how do I accomplish that? Do I extract some PBO and look in the config for... err... something? I really have no idea where to start looking.
  2. Time and weather change all the time. Can you explain what you mean by dynamic? And is this for single or multiplayer?

    Disabling medics

If you can't alter the presence of medics, would it work to just setDammage 1 for them at the start? (and make it clear that those medics aren't available for that setup option) That would be a crude method, though.

    Disabling medics

What would happen if you made the presence of medics depend on the selected options? I don't know if that's possible and what the consequences would be, just a thought.

    COOP vs player game modes

All play modes are fun as long as they're played with similar-minded people. Well okay, I don't think that some 'capture the flag' goes that well with ArmA, because those matches tend to ignore the best points of the game and reveal its weaknesses while trying to emulate something that Battlefield 2 does better (because BF is tailored exactly for CTF type play). The great thing about the game is though that it allows for a lot of variety in game types - capture the island, Sahrani Life, car races, chasing serial killers, three sided scenarios. Unfortunately most designers and players don't want to try new things. Also, a good game experience requires some patience - something that players seldom have.

    ArmA Addon request thread

Instead of Yamato, how about Chuck Norris? On a second thought, that would be an overkill...
  7. Fair enough, just the package I downloaded didn't have any readme. Really, I checked. But I stand corrected. Some of the translations might need checking for clarity - for example, a shower is named "souls" in the editor. This reminds me of when I was learning Russian and listened to the Soviet bard Vladimir Vysotsky's song "Spasite nashi dushi", which I thought meant "save our showers" (dush=shower). Was Brezhnev going to cut off his water supply, or was Vysotsky just particularly concerned on personal hygiene? Did he feel the same way about banja (sauna)? Only later on I learned that dusha means soul, and in plural they both are dushi... d'oh.
  8. Yep, recognized the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. buildings (like the church). The civil way would have been to mention that they're made by someone else, instead of taking all credit for it.

    Kurdistan !

It is civilized behaviour and a vital part of democracy to tolerate different opinions, instead of trying to silence dissent. Even separatists have right to express themselves peacefully, but if that right is limited it can only result in less peaceful measures. As has happened. You also don't seem to understand that nobody except Turkish nationalists see anything offensive about the word Kurdistan. It would be better for you to "agree to disagree" instead of trying to impose censorship on others.

    Kurdistan !

"This issue is rather sensitive and illegal because the name itself, links and images of "Kurdistan" refers to a separtist plan created by terrorist organisation, PKK" That statement gives the impression that even mentioning the K-word is a crime. I don't know how it is in Turkey, where they certainly lack in human rights, but certainly not in Czech Republic (the home of BIS) or anywhere in European Union or North America. The K-word has absolutely nothing to do with PKK, as it is simply Kurdish for "land of Kurds", and as such predates PKK which was founded just in 1970's. That is like saying that use of the word Palestine is a crime, because Palestinian terrorist organizations use it. But that's politics, let's now concentrate on waiting for the map... ...still waiting...

    Terrain Deformation

I don't think this can be realistically done with ArmA's map sizes, not without completely rehauling the engine in order to get deformable terrain in. Bomb craters are a bit of something that I'd pass. Then an artillery bombardment would take too much computing power, and the effects would be hard to see (ordinary 105mm-155mm artillery doesn't produce motherbig craters unless the ground was softy-soft, certainly not when using air bursts). And if I fired a howitzer shell to other side of the island, would I care if it produced a crater or not? Probably not as much as I'd care for the effect on performance. Giving the possibility to do trenches, tunnels, underground basements & bunkers, and such would be worth more, but I doubt that the engine can be easily transformed to that direction either without map sizes and/or performance suffering. Given enough money and time no programming feat is impossible, but usually there isn't enough of either.

    Army Backpack

Erm, why would you take a backpack with you to CQB? It hardly makes a fighter more agile in narrow corridors or tight doorways. A long range patrol in unsupplied areas sounds more like it. There's only so much a human can carry without getting fatigued or slowed down. Right now the soldiers can carry a rifle, an RPG, a pistol, ammo for them, body armor etc. and still sprint like it was nothing, which is a bit ludicrous - a civilian with no armor and guns should be able to run faster - or sprint longer - than a Western soldier in full combat gear. Likewise carrying all the ammo and weapons that you can find should slow you down. Unless encumbrance was implemented, I don't see any reason to do this. But ammo backpacks have already been done in OFP, so there's nothing preventing it right now.

    Still not a fighter.

    Unique models for different ammo

This is a great thing, hopefully BIS will do something like this as a default in future games. Thumbs up! Btw. is this fully MP compatible?

    Up close combat

Hey hey hey! I use those both all the time. Well, watch mainly at the beginning of a mission to be sure what time it is (so I know if darkness/daylight will be approaching soon), but I couldn't survive without a compass. Or I could use the sun or the stars to find directions... not.

    Tackle?

Then you are supposed to RUN AWAY. Really. If you run out of bullets, the last thing you want to do is approach the enemy. While that might work if your enemy was alone, in most cases he isn't. So even if you took him down his buddies would make you Swiss cheese. The only exception would be if your first name was Chuck and last name Norris.

    Ragdoll

No it doesn't. It's like saying that the way the spent shells are ejected from the gun sells copies of games. Good graphical effects sure do help at that, but it doesn't depend on any single one effect but the overall picture. Personally I'd rather see vehicles that break into pieces (like a T-72 turret flying into air after a catastrophic brew up, or car wheels rolling on after explosion) than dolls. Those you'd actually be able to see at the usual engagement range. However, even better would be to have real simulation aspects improved. Now THAT would sell the game a lot more.

    PROJECT'85 TOPIC

You can stick guns out of the windows of any car IRL. Doesn't mean that it would work in a sensible way in the game, for the reasons I gave.

    PROJECT'85 TOPIC

There are more than one weapon that soldiers carry, some of which can't be used from inside a BMP due to size issues, and turret weapons don't use the gunner's own ammunition. A passenger might not even have any weapons. Also my hunch is that once you loaded AI soldiers into those spots, they'd sharpshoot hidden enemies from a moving BMP at 500 meters range with no problem. So while it is "possible", the way it would work just would be ridiculous and would break any suspension of disbelief. A player would not think "ah, now I can use my gun from inside this BMP", no, he'd think "ah, now I can fire a few free shots from the fake turret of this BMP without using any ammo of my own". Sometimes it's better to acknowledge engine limitations than to pretend that they don't exist. Anyway, this problem is not so much about Project '85.
  20. Zoom down on as low level as G'Earth gives you, press Ctrl+Alt+S. If it's a bigger area than one screen, take several shots and combine them in your preferred photo editing software.

What would be the point when passengers can't shoot? Would be fun for enemy snipers though...

    Vilas' addons

Re: some of the posts before, AFAIK there certainly are no restrictions to making voluntary donations to any modders. Note the difference between making a voluntary donation and paying for an add-on. Any add-on made with BIS tools has to be provided free of charge to the public, but we fans may still offer complimentary beers/apartments/bullion as we wish. This on AFAIK basis, of course - I'm not a lawyer.

    Kurdistan !

I pity the Turkish soldiers who chase guerrillas under those conditions (or worse, considering that it's winter)... but it looks grand. I'm feeling dizzy already.

    Map, Territory & Island

But I suspect that all the BIS map making efforts are concentrated on making the main island as detailed and polished as possible, instead of diverting attention to secondary maps that wouldn't be utilized in the game campaign anyway. Different climate settings would also require different building and plant sets, and preferably unit skins as well. I'm not saying that it wouldn't be a good idea. It just might not be that from BIS point of view
