You know when you have played too much ArmA

I sent a text message to someone at work that I recently found out played as well.  I knew he was in a meeting so the message said to call me after. He messaged back. "Roger that." What a dork  A while back when RTS3 first came out, I actually had a dream about building the perfect base...one impossible to sneak into. I was actually disappointed that I could't remember the details of the layout when I woke up....wow thats just sad.

You know when you have played too much ArmA

As your opening the garage you tell your girlfiend: "Two, board car." ...and she takes the keys away from you. or you sit in traffic wondering how many satchal charges it would take to clear the way. "hmm...3 at the base of that pillar would definately drop that overpass." ...when you realize you did the same thing some guy did on the first page ~creepy!

    MANPADs too powerful

I love the "lock-tone" missle warning idea. Â I wonder if it would actually make any difference if you took evasive manuvering though. Is this a valid solution to making flight more survivable? Â I will try it, anyone tested quick direction changes as a missle is fired? Ah just read F16's post. maybe the tone warning is anti-realism...dang

    ArmA is just ... awesome!

As OFP server populations began to dwindle I began to dabble in some other games as I waited for ArmA. Aside from obvious differences in the environment and gameplay, the WAY people played stood out to me. For example, in BF games people didn't play as medics for the good of the team...they did it for points. So nothing is more enjoyable for me than playing on a public server where few people are on a voice channel...and natural team play evolves. Â Someone picks medic on a coop...so the team will survive. Someone with 30 points, lases targets on Evolution for the guy in the jet who already has 300. Why? Â To work as a team to complete the objective. In public MP madness its not common for unit cohesion to just naturaly occur. Â When it dose, I love to be there. PS Â xnodunitx your post is useless...both of them

    ArmA is just ... disappointing

I'm a bit confused.  I can't contest positive coments made in the praise forum, but this thread is ripe with snappy comebacks about criticisms. Am I to believe that a sensible point-counter point IS acceptable, or that there are different rules that apply to different posters  (some more "notable" than others?). Because some of the counter points in this thread are just as crass as the points they oppose. And when I look at the poster it seems a nerve has been hit. Taking a deep breath and a step back worked for me, maybe whats good for the goose is... As to not be accused of being comepletely off topic.... Many of my disappointments have been aleviated by switching from Sprocket to the Atari version, the patches and buying some more expensive hardware. My remaining "disappointment" comes when I look at the server list.  The distinct lack of variety in missions that are on servers makes me not play. This is not a BIS issue but an ArmA issue.  I have loaded up other missions and yet people seem drawn to only a few.  I figure this is a passing phase, its just taking longer than expected.

    Psychology of killing.

These posts sound stragely familiar.... I do not hunt but own guns and enjoy target shooting. I have no desire to kill, but cannot say what I would do if put in a position if I or loved ones were in harms way. I have had the unfortunate experience of fearing for my life on several occasions. One such occasion stands out. I got caught walking alone late at night and must have looked like easy prey as I was stumbling drunk. I was unprepared for the 5 on 1 that suddenly appeared. I knew I was in a bad spot. As the leader of this little hate fest pulled out a knife I knew hesitation = my ass, so i broke his nose and ran like hell. I didn't make it the 5 blocks back to my friends house...and in the blury moments that I lay on the ground taking repeated kicks and blows to the back of my head there was no thinking going on...only survival instinct. With blood gushing from my face I made a desperate lunge gripping a rock and cracked one of them in the head...they were stunned...and in that moment I put my arm around ones neck and held the rock high screaming I was going to kill him...I almost felt bad as I realized the one I had grabbed was a girl that was with them and had been standing there watching. As my blood gushed over her she began to squirm and scream for them to call the police...breaking the mood and casuing them to abandon her in my deranged arms. As they ran away I let go or she broke free ...I don't remember...and she ran crying after them. The point is in that moment that my survival instinct kicked in, I would have done anything to survive. Rage and adrenaline had put a large rock in my hand, comical circumstances kept me from crushing someones skull, and most likely immediatly being killed myself. I wasn't thinking about killing, just surviving. So yes, put in a situation like that, I could kill. And i would likely be haunted by it for the rest of my life.

USA Politics Thread - *No gun debate*

Not to mention the billions of US dollars spent after the tsunami, to prop up the crumbling UN, and thrown out to numerous government enteties including Hamas. Of course the billions spent in Iraq pretty much wash that out of the minds. Anyway...to keep the topic current. Today in the Senate, out of touch Senators hearing the distant roar, decided the safe bet to keeping thier jobs was to listen to those who can still legally vote. "Rarely does a legislative fight get as emotional as the battle over immigration. A flood of angry phone calls from opponents of the overhaul shut down the Capitol switchboard before the vote, overwhelming the message from a small klatch of immigrant-rights demonstrators urging passage outside the Capitol. Latino lawmakers from the House flooded onto the Senate floor to encourage senators to keep the legislation alive and let the House have a turn. The bill's opponents painted the fight as a battle between U.S. citizens and a government that has grown insensitive to an illegal-immigrant invasion that threatens the nation's fabric. Proponents said the Senate had succumbed to the angry voices of hate, venom and racism." Full Article Dosen't matter what side your on, it sure has been a while since the will of the people was heard. Maybe the people need to lean a bit harder on their representatives to get some movement on other topics of the day as well. discuss...

    The Middle East part 2

Very true. But quite simply, you cannot help peopel that cannot help themselves. In Africa (as you used as an example) land that has been taken from white farmers has seen decreased output and thus there are problems with food shortages. Could the west put forth some effort and reverse this...yes. But right now we are too busy trying to save the world from our SUV's. And how do you deal with countries that preform genital mutilation on females and execute victims of child abuse for chastity violations? Really...I don't have an answer. 71 Child Offenders Are on Death Row, According to Rights Group

climatic changes, what do you think about that?

Well "environmentalism" has hit close to home for me. A large forest fire now threatens our cabin built by the hands of a father and grandfather. The news so far is hopeful. While the area is decemated, our street looks to be in good shape. The reason is most likely the recent "thinning" of trees in the area. This process usually involves removing brush that seasonally becomes dry and taking out dead and smaller trees that crowd the old growth. Unfortunately many in the area have not been so lucky. Some are quite pissed that they were barred by environmentalist organizations from removing dead and infected (bark-beatle) trees. Now they can only wonder if had they been alowed, their homes and hundreds of acres of forrest might have been saved. Read article here Tree-hugger types that have lived in Tahoe for years know full well what is required to limit these fires and preserve the old growth forests. Unfortunately they are not listened to by band-wagon environmentalists who jump on the political adgenda with NO clue about what it means in pratice. Things will very likely change here as San Francisco environmentalists with summer homes who forced bad decisions, will find that their undeserved infuence has gone up in smoke.

    The Middle East part 2

I concur. If a new miracle power source was found (wouldn't that be great! and all western influence suddenly disappeared from the middle east, would: ...people stop killing each other over silly brands of the same religion. ...stop treating women as property and beating them. Human nature is unaviodable, and rears its ugly head in differnt ways in different places. What I find even more interesting is how desperate the blame game has gotten. Â If you can't blame the "west" directly, blame their darn pollution! Another excuse how I am resposible for others killing each other...\ Wow my truck and my Whopper consumption is the reason nomadic Muslims picked up rifles... (no I don't own a truck, no I don't eat Whoppers... Can't wait until someone finds a way to link climate change in the middle east, the Phillipines and other parts of SE Aisa, or Eastern Europe to complete the circle. Your SUV is the reason that people have hate for those of Jewish decent...my bad

    The Iraq thread 4

I agree with ShinRaiden. That site encourages stupidity such as this. pointing wrong way? I can tell you what I would NOT do if my country were invaded. I wouldn't kill my neighbors because their similar belief holds a differnt title. I wouldn't strap explosives on a child and send him to his death...

    How they Cheat

One actual solution is to not play on servers that use Cadet. At least ones that don't have the map radar enabled so you instantly know where all friendlies are and enemies everytime they take a shot. Aside from that, welcome to pc gaming. If you have a bad experience at a server, time to move on until you find a good fit. Good luck

    Transformers The movie (07.04.07)

I had this one that my uncle got for me while he was stationed in Japan. (The transformers version, that still had the Macross symbol on the wing.) Macross/Transformer whoops! I just saw how much this hunk of metal and plastic would be work if I still had it..... I remember the first "transformer" toys I had were the little go-bots. I don't want to know what some nerd my age would pay for those now... The new ones just are not the same quality crappy new ones

Is video-game addiction a mental disorder?

There are 3 forums I go to. 2 I just make the daily peek at, and this one... For years I played far too much OFP for any time left to come here. I even forgot my password and had to make a new account. Then I bought the Sprocket copy and spent a lot of time here...bitching. My new excuse that I am waiting for my new vid card to arrive. Then hopefully those that hate my posts won't miss me as I again spend my valuable free time in-game. Sercleas: That's what i believe as well. I tried to explain it, but after re-reading my post today it seemed a bit confusing. This is how a parent should react to a WoW addict. Freakin hilarious!

    Transformers The movie (07.04.07)

LOL I told my girlfriend "WE are going to see this!" She said "YOU have fun...no." A side note...has anyone seen the toys that have come out for the movie. I was walking through a Target store and saw the boxes. Me : "Transformers?! Sweet!" Girlfriend : "*Sigh* Didn't we just stop in the video game aisle...your a nerd." I was sorely disappointed by them. Small...Plastic...crap. Not at all like I remembered them. Is my memory affected by old age, or has the kid in me just died....?

He still keeps on talking about the HDR issues he had prior 1.08 as if they were not fixed today, so I guess he somewhat likes to live in the past for some reason. I think you took a wrong turn. One tweak that will change alot

I have had several experiences where I have been spotted (and ocassionaly shot at) from a concealed location. When I say conceled I mean on the other side of a building or behind the crest of a hill. This "spotting" usually only occurs when ai is in a vehicle. My point: Do ai in vehicles have a different locating ability then those on foot? Thanks in advance to anyone with this knowledge.

    ArmA is just ... awesome!

Arma is AWSOME...potentially. What would really be "awsome" is if there was somewhere I could put my name on a list to be e-mailed once the kinks are worked out. This would save you from my "whining" and save me from wasted time looking at the forums trying to keep up with the flow of 99% useless babble such as this thread. See! if this existed you wouldn't even have to read THIS!

climatic changes, what do you think about that?

William, great thought. I don't know the answer to that, but good question. Â It may border on "conspiracy theory," but it's far from a crazy scenario. Â (no more far fetched than many of the explanations thus far...) I know its a topic for a separate thread, but how much in debate is the ammount of oil left? Anyway, I applaud you for thinking beyond sunspots and "greenhouse" gasses. Â Looking at an issue with a broad view, and asking such questions is a rational approach. Good post

climatic changes, what do you think about that?

Because: * I always try to link to what I quote so people may see whether I am selectively quoting or not eg. being truthful and not trying to blind them with science. * It is only fair to acknowledge your sources * If you are going to persuade people it is always better to use information they have misunderstood. What Red kite says And in the Research Red kite originally pointed to: http://www.mpg.de/english....0041028 as always follow the link for the full story I could be trying to science blind you  There is a link entitled. How Strongly Does the Sun Influence the Global Climate? It goes here http://www.mpg.de/english....0040802 as always follow the link for the full story I could be trying to science blind you  What the article says in the executive summary at the very start. What Prof. Sami K. Solanki who did the research that, Red kite quotes out of context, says is his conclusion. Neither I nor any climate change scientist is disputing that sunspots happen. What those scientists including the one you pointed to in YOUR linky is that sunspot activity is not a significant factor in the current global warming period. It does not fit the temperature changes over this period. I am fully aware that natural events cause climate change I even went through all of them with descriptions of how they work, something you never did I then went on to explain with supporting materials why each of the natural causes does not fit the current anomaly event. It is why the UK meteorological office labeled it an anomaly in the first place. In the light of the evidence of real science and not science blinding I have presented. Even to the point of proving I read your source, and that you had misunderstood it, possibly because you were Google hunting through to find something to support your argument and were quoting out of context something to support your view, rather than reading it in full. Perhaps you wish to withdraw your remarks about me refusing to accept the science because to anyone with eyes to see and a mind to read the case is perhaps the reverse of what you would ascribe to me. As to the personal experience that Baff1 demanded I present. I did just that. I am sorry but I was not carrying a camera with me at the time and I was far to busy crapping myself over the fact we had crossed it twice and I had crossed it three times. Glaciers do not just melt slowly and uniformly. The process is catastrophic and violent. Big chunks fall off the size of blocks of flats and the noise is unbelievable. What looks to you like a car sized block falling off the bottom of say the Glacier du Boissons near Chamonix is suddenly brought into perspective when you look away to continue walking and few seconds later the sound reaches you and your mind does a massive jump as you realise just how big those blocks of ice are. The glacier I crossed near Laktatjakka had been melting probably since the 1900s. The storm, I was in, was as I said the straw that broke the camel's back. The water from the river being swollen and flooded probably melted and weakened key sections that were supporting the glacier. I just happened to be there the day it finally came crashing down. When I came back it was a smashed load of office block sized lumps of ice about 25 m plus below where the surface we had walked on. They had originally been a flat glacier top with a path marked across with red and yellow fluorescent poles. The glacier I crossed near Laktatjakka was a small one not some tens of miles like the Glacier du Boissons but one that was on the map and that the Abisko parks people had placed a marked path across. This is a photograph of another glacier on the Abisko side of of the mountain That glacier when I crossed it in 1987 was covering the point where the camera is. Source for the photograph http://megnoblepeterson.com/photo-050902/index.htm As always follow link to see context Glaciers are retreating at about 200 feet a year the smaller ones retreat faster. I am sorry I have not got photos of the exact glacier it no longer exists and being a small insignificant glacier up in the arctic where there are many other more magnificent glaciers to study probably no one bothered to photograph it. What I can do is point to these photographs of other glaciers  that are retreating at similar rates. http://www.worldviewofglobalwarming.org/pages/glaciers.html Hover over the photographs to see before and after shots. As to Sc@tterbrain! Yes Sc@tterbrain climate change is big conspiracy between me, most of the worlds Governments, scientists, NASA, ESA, the Russians, Charities, Tree huggers, Lefties, Oil Speculators, Oil Companies and some unknown shadow group trying to drive down the third world all conspiring in a smoky room. And Now the dastardly UN has joined it! All of whom say Global warming is happening and it is all to stop Sc@tterbrain from driving his SUV. Kind Regards walker Typical. In the face of logic, you just spew more garbage and speak in circles. You have ruined a good cause with conjecture and fallacy. You piss on the methods of science that brought us to a better understanding of our place on the earth, and soil the message that could have brought pragmatic change. You do more to hurt the message you so desperatly espouse. Well done.
