ArmAGraph - a Arma population overview
Sc@tterbrain replied to jerryhopper's topic in ARMA - GENERAL
4. Unless previously exposed to OFP, most know NOTHING about Armed Assault or have even heard of it. Â -There is no release date listed on commonly used English game sites (gamespy for example). Â -US stores are not taking pre-orders and have no expected release date...or any listing of a game called Armed Assault. -Many of those I played OFP with have adopted a "wait and see" stance on buying it. So it looks like it will have to win over the public purely on its merrits. Â Not saying thats a bad thing, there is plenty of media blitz on garbage. Â Heres to hoping the money I spent to be a beta tester went to good use. -
Weird, it dosent do that to me. Try clearing your cookies or something.

Iraq battlefield slag. Quite ammusing. Embrace the suk.

Truly revolutionary work! You have inspired me! Â For years while playing OFP everyone yearned for the ability to crap on players while trapped in reincarnation as a seagull. Â Now I must make it happen! Back to the topic at hand. Â I would like to offer use of a further projet in development inspired by the puppet-Kim Jong Il post. Â Essentially it ads to the current 5 chat options. Â The new options being quote as seen above, and thought as seen below. Â Keep up the good work!

Or they could just say nothing and buy time until the US release, working hard to salvage the situation... ...and 2 weeks after the post, it would seem thats the "grand plan." Â I guess when your up against it, you have more to gain by hushing the low points, and everyhting to lose by putting them in the spotlight. However, if the US/UK release dose not go off spectacularly...(insert here.)

That 20mm weapon while cool looks like it needs some refinement. This nasty little thing looks like the first small step in a remote controlled battlefield. http://www.atk.com/Advance....ems.asp From the looks of weapons like these, we are planning on wars fought my Dorito eating techno-geeks sitting in comfortable chairs. http://www.atk.com/Advance....con.asp http://www.atk.com/Advance....fly.asp

Some servers have limits on the size of such folders or do not allow them altogether.  I believe this is because each person who joins must DL them.  Also in OFP there was a limit to the size a sound file could be for it to work in MP.  As a general rule be respectful of other players and keep the files small and few, if you use them at all. From The Avon Lady's OFP FAQ: "How can I use my own customized shout sound when playing online? Just follow these easy instructions: Create a new subdirectory, \SOUND, within your existing player subdirectory, simular to the following:     \OperationFlashpoint\Users\player_name\Sound  Place an OGG sound file into the new Sounds subdirectory.  Rename the OGG file to something relevant. For example, my shout file's name is Avon_Calling.ogg. Now, when you play an online MP game, hit the zero ("0") command key to bring up the RADIO command menu. From there, select 9 CUSTOM. In my example above, I'll see Avon_Calling listed (without the file type OGG suffix being displayed). Select it and your shout will be heard. If you need a program to convert a sound file from one format to OGG, your best bet is to head on over to Download.com and search for "ogg converter". You'll find a lot of matching downloads. Make sure you choose one that converts from your shout file's format to OGG." ****Edit: These instructions are for OFP. Your ArmedA player profile is not located in the same place where it was in OFP. If you can't find it, you shouldn't be adding sounds.

KeyCat, I am really glad to see that you have found a way to play MP with some stability. Â However looking at the server list it is difficult to determine which servers are running the types of maps you suggest. I was hoping that you could list the names of the servers that you know run these maps. Â I did not see any rule against naming servers in the "Forum Rules," and it would benifit greatly those that are having difficulty with the Sprocket Czech version if we could have a reference to such servers. Â If I am wrong about the rules then will a moderator please correct me.

Well since I can't play anyway I again tried removing certain Softwrap files after starting the game. Â Again I played for about 2 hours before crashing durring one of my multiple Alt-tabs. Â So unfortunately I used one of my "allowed installs" because I will have to re-enter my reference # and having to again activate the game. Â They probably won't give me more after posting this, but no loss really since I can't play MP anyway. Â (Remember: I am NOT recomending you try this! Â I don't want to hear "you made me screw up my game" messages. Â ) Here's to hopeing this is fixed in the next patch. Â As I said before, if its not, I won't be buying the English DVD out of spite and wil have to move on Â

What is happened with weapon accuracy in v.1.02
Sc@tterbrain replied to Rancen's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Many in the Sprocket trouble shooting thread believe that version has at least parts of all three (fade, SF, Softwrap). Maybe its too much... -
Ever been to Washington D.C.? Â I wouldn't go out of the "green zone" there without military escort either. I find the blame game quite amusing. Â There is no one side that is right and the other wrong. Â Politics in America is nothing more than a pupet show to keep us believing that we still have some control over our government. Â We don't. They don't listen, they don't care, so long as they remain in power. Â What we have in America today is nothing more than the rule of the elite, Left and Right. And because America has historically only been reactionary to times of crisis, things will progress as they have. Â New leader, new party, same problems, same bullsheet. I can't say what the breaking point will be. Â I'm starting to wonder if Americans will ever hear the wake up call or have the spine to stand up. I for one am ready.

This confuses me. Â So your saying that by adding Starforce in addition to Softwrap fixes the crashing? If that is truly the only way to stop the crashing then that's too bad. Â I am skeptical of this "fix", and will not resort to putting Starforce on my computer...ever.
-
Many of you asked what I did, but may have missed that it cannot be used as a "fix."  It worked for me, but in the process invalidated my registration through Softwrap.  BIS asked me to send them my crash files, even though they said that Softwrap was not the cause of crashes. Even more interesting was the response from support@idea-games.com. Their reply about Softwrap was: "Many thanks for your comments. We are _really_ investigating this issue and trying to find a way to fix it. I will keep you posted about new developments." So either they really are aware of the CTD issue, or they were simply blowing smoke up my ass. As to what is causing it, I really don't care as long as they fix it. I really think that the idea that JIP and Respawn causing much of the CTD issue has merrit as well. So again I wait patiently for yet another patch.  I have all but given up trying to play MP.  I will patch this Sprocket Cz download version to 1.04 when it is out, and if the problem is not fixed, I will be done.  I will simply choose NOT to buy the English CD version and will move on. Â

My game is pretty much useless for MP so I tried something desperate. Â Now I'm convinced of what was causing it for me. If you have the Czech download verion from Sprocket read HERE.

good news, bad news. After crashing got so bad this weekend that I was unable to play for more than 2 mins (or crashed when connecting to a server) I got desperate and tried something. Good news is that it worked and I played for 2 hours with no crash. Bad news is that it is not a fix that can be done regularly. I don't want people to try it unless they want to see themselves if the Sprocket version has issues, but heres the deal. Â The problem seems to be Softwrap, the verification and protection software. When I...did something I'm probably not supposed to...the game ran for longer than I have ever been able to in MP with no crash. (Approx. 2 hours before I restarted and learned this cannot be done regularly) Not only that, but it ran BETTER! BIS please fix the Sprocket version-Softwrap issues ASAP! Edit: I did not include exactly what I did because I don't want people screwing up their game. Â But if you want specifics on what I did and what the consequences are, PM me.

I had the very same thoughts of "what the hell?" So I emailed a cousin that works in Washington pleading for some insight. The phone call I got was quite interesting. While she is not privy to any special information that I know of, keeping on top of this stuff is her job so I figured maybe she would have something to say. Her take on the matter is the folowing: 1.) In a desperate attempt to salvage something out of nothing Bush is sending most of the troops to create a state of martial law in the Bagdad area. If there is success in pushing out, and keeping out, the "troublemakers" then the same thing will be tried in the Ambar province. As far as the number of troops being sent, this is likely a number based solely on the thinking of "heres a number we could get away with." The reality being more would be required for the second stage and more likely allowed should there be an initial success. 2.) If success is not achieved to some unknown standard, US forces will not pull out of Iraq, but will instead take position in the North where they can both provide security for the Kurds and launch raids if necessary. So it is essentially a large gamble. Even worse its a gamble whose success is dependent on so many factors, some controlable some not. For instance this whole concept of new "rules of engagement." Yes we certainly do need to take the gloves off/untie the soldiers hands from behind their backs...but those are only words, and any willingness to get ugly is doubtful in my opinion. In closing, it seems to be a "last chance effort" with an unkown outcome. If success or failure was more firmly placed in the hands of the military rather than in the muddy world of politics I would see some shred of hope. However the fallout from that would be massive.

Downloading this now, thanks for the heads up. I don't quite understand "Africa" as an enemy though.

Well said. I'm sure the Cuban political prisoners would gladly give a finger or toe to trade palces with those in Guantánamo. Of course Cindy is only concerned about the ones that are well fed and visited by diplomats and "health" organizations to make sure they are well treated.

Interesting read indeed. Now I have a polar opposite view to cleanse my brain of Bush's Presidential address last night. But I tire of the views of politicians and the equally biased media. If you really want to understand the Middle East pick up a history book. You can even start in the early 1900's and gain a more clear prospective. Only then will it reveal what a steaming pile of dung we have stepped in...repeatedly. (ok more like danced around with the occasional squish.) The only solution to shit on your shoe is to scrape it off.

My intention in starting this topic was simply to discuss something other than Iran/Iraq/Middle East. These topics have begun to wear on my mind with the many opinion-based posts that seem to take it nowhere. So I just threw this one out there to see if there was any interest. While everyone has moved away from the basis for the topic, I don't mind at all because it has generated some thoughtful discussion. For that I believe it deserves its place as a topic. However it has become quite broad, so maybe we should stick with terrestrial threats. There have also been a few other interesting concepts that may deserve their own topic. So for now feel free to make your own premise for future discussion. And last, thanks to you all for your deep thoughts.

I apologize to the readers for doing the quote-response reaction. I am beginning to think there should be a separate thread for baseless opinions. Perhaps thats true of the people, the leadership is a different story. Ahmenijad has expressed his willingness to sacrifice the lives of many in Iran to destroy Isreal. You truely believe he intends to destroy the country and send the people on their merry way? Further Ahmadinejad has reportedly said that there was no such nuclear weapons program and that such a policy was "illegal and against our religion." However he is part of the Haghani Circle which includes Ahmadinejad's ideological mentor and spiritual guide Mesbah Yazdi who believes that slavery and aggression are justifiable under Islam and supports suicide bombing against Israel. Other members of the circle have stated that the use of nuclear weapons is legitimate under Islam. The fact is Ahmadinejad actually has no control over nuclear policy, it is controlled by the Supreme National Security Council. Hassan Nasrallah, the current Secretary General of the Lebanese Islamist party Hezbollah said, "if they [Jews] all gather in Israel, it will save us the trouble of going after them worldwide." So i guess that answers that... While there has been some debate over the actual meaning of the translation "wiped off the map," Ahmadinejad was actually quoteing directly the late Ayatollah Khomeini in calling for Israel to be "wiped out from the map." There really is little difference since Iran actively supports anti-Israel groups with both money and weapons. They are hardly waiting passivly for the "sands of time." Did you make that up? I like it, good line.

Well said Buzzard. Â I think you are entirely correct. Â I should have seen that angle as being a stonger point myself, especially considering my rant on history. Â Perhaps a comparison of the two wars is misguided, but I stand by my statements pertaining to Americans narrow view of the world around them and the influence of the media. Thanks for correcting me in an academic-like rather than condecending tone. Heres a model for all of you thinking about telling someone they are wrong. Â Do it respectfully and back it up.

Well I actually got another response from the folks at IDEA/Sprocket. I was pretty floored by the reponse but it is what I have been asking for. In a very round about way he stated they (BIS) are aware of the issues and is trying to fix them and that he "hopes" it will be addressed in the upcoming patch and improve these issues. I have still have not gotten a response from support@bistudio.com, but considering thats probably the guy at the next desk over, I guess it would be redundant. I asked for a response and a statement acknowledging the issue so I guess I should feel satisfied.....
-
Paco, "I feel your pain...." I would have liked your letter to generate some kind of "official" response. However I think that at this point any such response is unlikely. I too will be faithfully waiting for future patches and fixes. My loalty however has its limits, and while not yet exhausted, my disappointment is real. Onward and upward, an unknown future is at hand. I hold hope, and cling to the belief that the stakes are comprehendend by those who have the most invested.

Me too, no luck.
