Nvidia have nothing to do with directx, they were the last who implemented dx11. Also physx is the worst physics engine, inefficient, and platform dependent. DX11 and opencl/directcompute should be used, with own physics engine or a free physics engine like Bullet which supports both opencl, and directcompute. Anyway bis games always have extreme system requirements (for smooth game), so the whole engine is need to be optimized, perhaps rewritten.

my pc: 4400+ x2 (brisbane g2), 6gb ddr2 800 mhz cl5, radeon hd3850 I've ran the benchmarks, the first is at about 21 fps, average (17 at highest graphics, exept aa, 3km visibility, 24 fps at lowest graphics with 1,5km visibilty The second benchmark mission gives 7 fps average no matter what i set on graphics. As i see, the cpu is the bottleneck, but i wonder how far is the "end" of the video card? -
How can i decode arma2's wss files into a normally playable format? without ear striking noise, to play on a media player?

None of older game engines was rewritten. It's a common thing, that the engines evolving from the first game. No need to rewrite the whole engine for new technologies. Fe stalker was meant for dx8. And it came out as a full dx9.0c game, clear sky used some dx10.1 effects, and now call of pripyat will strongly use dx11. Unreal 2 engine also wasn't new, it was the upgrade of unreal 1 engine, and unreal 3 engine also the descendant of unreal 2. And i can say more games. 2001? I can't remember dx9.0c and multi core cpu-s from 2001 :) ---------- Post added at 02:18 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:10 PM ---------- About a year ago, i've asked from a bi developer, that why they aren't use directx 10/10.1 in arma2, there are much of features that a game like arma can use very efficently, and nicely. He said they don't see enough innovation in it to use it.... And this can mean 2 things: - they aren't so pro developers, and they know nothing about dx10+ - or they are f**cin' lazy to code it :D

my suggestion is: - Dx 11 usage, instead of the wastefuly working and old dx9 :) - compute shader, or OpenCL usage for physics, and So my suggestion is a technoligically new engine, instead of this outdated engine from 2006...

Hi! What about the GPU accelerated physics in arma2? Cuz i see, vbs2 using physix so arma2 should be able too (if bis don't want to use directx10/10.1 to make gameplay smoother in fps...). Soon physix will be released on opencl base, so i'll work on ati gpu-s too, not just on nv gpu-s like now.

When i start arma 1.14, there are no titles, like bis arma etc, just black screen, hdd loading, then i get this specs: athlon x2 4400+ (brisbane core) 2x1+2x2 Gbytes CSX DDR2 800mhz Asus M3A mobo Radeon HD3850 512mb, catalyst 8.11 Vista ultimate x64 SP1, all updates What is this? I played with arma some months ago, on same machine exept the +4gb ram, same with vista x64 sp1 oh and i tried that -maxmem=512 thing, didn't worked.

1.08. starforce driver+ vista 64 bit, = freeze at boot. Difference in 1.14? Or i still can't use my original (1.0 czech verison) dvd, and i must use securom version +yasu?

Bcuz the most of servers are 1.08, and i don't play too much in single. But why? 1.12 don't check dvd? Or it has updated vista compatible sf? And what will be at final 1.12? -

Hi! I running vista sp1 64bit on my machine. But when i installed arma's copy protection (starforce), then win hangs up at load. Starforce remove -> win working again. So i downloaded the EU version, with securom, and i using 1.08 cr*ck with it. BTW do not think i didn't bought arma (this is the second original game i have, first was ofp) just my original is starforce version (first 1.0 czech version, i bought it after 2 weeks after the first release) isn't working on vista 64, bcuz of copy protection. So i installed the warez version, and i used my original cdkey with it, so i can play everywhere now with 1.08... but what if another patch comes out? There won't be cr*ck for it for some days or weeks! And i don't think that the securom version without cr*ck will identify my starforced orig dvd as original... So what will be with me when a new patch comes out? (i don't wanna downgrade my os ) -
OMG i starting to be angry. I have a 16 bit png heightmap, with correct pbl, import to visitor- > nothing happens. Why can't this ... give me just an error message? WHY??? Then how can i find out what is the problem?

for me it's still not working i don't have working drive, just a working folder, i put there /bin these shader files, but connect with visitor to buldozer -> still invalid shader... -
