Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 2.0 Released!
spooky lynx replied to -Total-'s topic in OFFTOPIC - Games & Gaming
Will buy it exactly! That's what I wanted for a long time. With DCS ground scales and A2 1st person view that would be death to every PC for nearest 15 years :) -
Italy and Chile use 767s in military purposes.

Stop going in the damn water !!!
spooky lynx replied to gareththomasnz's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
This would be another suggestion for future patches:) The AI gear should be dropped after long swimming only. Or there is another way: to make swimming speed dependant of the gear which AI or player has. So if you need to increase swimming speed - drop your gear. And of course vehicle explosion in water must be removed at all. If the vehicle is sunk, only the crew should die after some time. -
I shouldn't say that ArmA modding is much more complicated than OFP one. Because a lot of features that modders tried to add to OFP addons via scripting or by other ways now are standart features of the game engine. And you are right, there is a quite large amount of knowledge and skills of modelling, texturing and coding for OFP/ArmAs engines (still they have much common), so I suppose with all that knowledge people would spend less time for modding. BTW, good official modelling/scripting/texturing tutorials would help those who want to create some addons greatly. Together with sample ingame models that should come with tools. ArmA series become more and more like sandbox, because SP campaign and missions look like just some kind of demos for testing new game features. So the best way to gain more popularity - is to support modding in all aspects. Or to make excellent SP campaign (CWC was one of them):) And some more about other "reason"... Bugs:mad: The OFP/ArmAs have common engines, so... I expect that every new version of engine should be better that previous in all ways. But... What am I seeing? Some old bugs and limitations are gone, some new ones appeared.:( One example: try to create a convoy of 5-6 truck and compare how will they drive in OFP, A1 and A2. P.S. There's one thing that this games lost, but OFP had it. The voices and mimics. Now A2 soldiers look like beautiful dummies.
-
Do you think the number of community members had been decreased with the release of A1 for one time, and with release of A2 for second time? I suppose, no. So, I think, most of people who liked OFP stay in the community. And all that OFP addons and mods were made for that amount of people. So I don't think that the interest of this series' fans is influenced by market changes much. Personally, I've been playing in OFP/Armas since 2002 and I don't have any serious interest in consoles or BF/CoD-style games. And there are lots of people who are the same as me. We prefer OFP/Armas than any other kind of shooter and we are the stable and large part of community. The market doesn't influence us, the main users of addons/mods.
-
Just compare the amount of user-made content for OFP and for Arma1 and Arma2. As I see, the situation is getting more sad. It looks like people loosing interest in modding, in using all abilities of A1 or A2 engine. The same goes to SP... IMHO that's another reason of falling down popularity. There are no the same great atmosphere that was in OFP campaign. All I can say about A1 and especially A2 SP campaign - FAIL.:( You can say old OFP campaigns are available via mods... Yes, but new game needs new campaign, created with 100% use of new engine features. New campaign with old atmosphere of being a just another infantry soldier who took part in war. Maybe you will mention that a lot of community members still remember the names of CWC and Resistance characters. But can you tell the same about the characters of A1 and A2 campaigns? Will this campaigns have the same long life? I doubt in it.

They are popular for some months. Then other one-evening games take their place. The only reason to stay popular for such games is their highes quality in all aspects. I can name only few such games. Other games that are/were popular for many years and gather large communities have additional content - Half-Life, OFP/ArmA, NFS series, Lock On, Il-2, MS flight simulators etc.
-
Mods are what makes such games as OFP. Don't you think there would be sold so many copies if there were no any addon or mod? Don't you think that there would be so many MP battles without any additional content just using vanilla units? Without additional content such game-not-suitable-for-every-teenager like BF/CoD-style arcades can be used just for couple of evenings.
-
"Why is this game not more popular?" Maybe because of devs' indifference to modmakers. Still there are no mlods of models for example -> no great variety of mods and addons which was in OFP.
-
SFP OFP mod had very good swedish versions of it. Maybe it's possible to convert their AK5 to FNC?
-
What about FNCs ? Aren't they used by regular infantry?
-
As I remember, most of Indian military hardware untill late 60-s was that of British origin - Centurions, small arms, Hunter jet-fighters and other planes, some artillery pieces such as L118 gun.
-
Huge thanks to you, Snake man! Upd.: are there all parts of archive? My Total Commander shows that there should be 10.

Well, let's think, who made what. Starting with discrimination, unofficial prohibition of native language, then - war, murderings of civilians, robbery, treachery of neigbours who praised invading army and "Mhedrioni" and all they do and even do the same, fierce battles, casualties... And then - victory. So, what do you think abhasians should do with all their neighbours who took a side of those who killed, robbed and treated them as "untermenschen"? Officially government stated that all georgians who haven't commited any crime against abhasians can just stay in their homes and live together with abhasians in newly established country. All those who supported georgian army had to get out or to be punished. Those georgian families who hadn't supported Shevardnadze and his invasion of Abhasia, didn't suffer from cleanses.
-
Hmm... As I know, this marketplace was not damaged badly, especially it was not blown; I visited it in 1997 by myself - only damage from some bullets was visible though it wasn't totally repaired. Opperssion of Abhasians had been started in 80-s, when all abhasian schools were closed, even most of signboards were on russian and georgian only. Massive migration of georgians was started earlier. So, so called ethnic cleansings of georgians are nothing like revenge. Rude revenge. BTW, newly-formed abhasian government proclaimed that every georgian may stay and live in his/her house, but he should become citizen of Abhasia. But lots of georgians, especially who welcomed georgian army and approved and supported all its crimes such as robbery of all non-georgians, delivery of humanitarian aid to georgians only, moved to Georgia. They were afraid of revenge.
-
Friendly speaking, poverty level and unemployment were not reduced. Still a huge amount of money is from georgians, who work in Russia. Prosperous economy would help only to give stability in Georgia itself. Because neither Abhasia nor Osetia will forgive all what have done georgians to them. My relatives live in Abhasia from late 70-s. They remember what happened in august of 1992. Airstrikes on civil houses and beaches, ethnic cleansing, murderings of innocent civilians by georgian army and paramilitary forces. From that time a lot of commanders were changed. And that mutiny was looking just funny and totally childish. I won't be surprised that it was another joke from Saakashvili.
-
Police, special service and army do. These are the best organizations to work in Georgia with biggest payments. They are totally loyal to Saakashvili, that's why he is still the president.
-
Yes... If he can do nothing with his country's economy, the best way to remain in the chair of president is to pay all attention to outer enemy - Russia.

The Georgian tv channel "Imedi" has shown the special reporting: invasion of the Russian armies on territory of Georgia and the beginning of general mobilisation. As informs "Echo Moscow" radiostation, in Russia Interfax has reported the first news about it. After a while it has appeared that "Imedi" has shot a film about the possible scenario of events what the broadcasting company has declared. As the correspondent of "Echo Moscow" has told, at first the message has appeared in special report of "Imedi" that act of terrorism against the leader of South Ossetia Edward Kokojtty has been made in Tskhinvali. Then the tv channel has informed that the president of Russia Dmitry Medvedev has ostensibly accused the Georgian president Michael Saakashvili in terrorism and after that the Russian armies have invaded in Georgia. After a while "Imedi" has informed on evacuation of the government of the country and Michael Saakashvili, and then about Saakashvili's death and about creation of the National government led by Nino Burjanadze. The program proceeded half an hour, and after messages "about awful bombardments of the airports and seaports of Georgia" broadcasting company, at last, has informed, what is it there was "special reporting on possible succession of events". According to the correspondent of "Echo", despite broadcasting company explanations, there was panic in Georgia, and the overload of mobile networks has begun: people call each other and find out, what's happened. Georgia Online also assures information portal that "the shots shown by television channel "Imedi" were only performance and haven't something in common with event in Georgia." The president of South Ossetia Edward Kokojty has declared that situation on border of South Ossetia and Georgia is absolutely calm, and the reporting of "Imedi" is provocation. Source Video in russian Well, I can't say anything except expletives about some georgian journalists.

Light drugs and prostitution are legalised in Netherlands. In many other countries they are prohibited. Does it mean that laws of those countries are unobjective? International law? It cannot be truly international, because countries and nations have too different ways of life. And even less them have enough power to take part in the development of such law. And all war crimes tribunals, especially modern, post-WW2, are totally inobjective. Fully agree. But there was already stability and some prosperity in Iraq. Until United States decided to transform Hussein into modern Hitler (it would not happen at all if he didn't invade pro-western Kuwait).
-
Don't forget about one fact: after falling Hussein's regime all iraqi prisons were opened. Tons of weapons of ex-Iraqi army were just lying everywhere. Don't you remember some days of anarchy that were after falling of iraqi government?
-
Iraq was a stable country at first. With no war between different armed groups, no everyday terrorist attacks. It was just another middel east country like Oman, Quatar, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Jordan. Another countries have their own way of life. Sometimes it can look just horrible for us, but it is quite normal for them. You think that stoning the woman to death is inadmissible, but citizens of that countries think the same about BDSM and some other sexual deviations which are to be "just another kind of relations between people" in US or Europe.
-
I should say that the presence of Americans is the reason of "people running around with guns and bombs killing everything in sight". They are the main reason of this conflict between different iraqi groups. "Separate and rule". So, the best way out - to go away from Iraq. Yes, there will be some years of civil war, but at the end the leading and the strongest group will be established, and it will form new more or less stable and independent state.
-
That's the main distribution restriction.

We all hope that some kind guy will upload it to some torrent or filehosting.
