British Troops DLC released & Official 1.01 Update
spooky lynx replied to Pauldarrington's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Well... As I have seen, about 1/3 or even more content is made by community (e.g. Jackals, MTP units, choppers etc.). So, I don't see any significant reason to spend any money for this DLC. It looks like this content should be included in OA, but someone decided to get additional money. There's one proverb, which sounds in english like "Greed will ruin the person". Looks like not everyone knows it... -
There was a huge problem with taking out all naval mines during "Desert storm", so there will be the same if another Gulf war would start. Also don't forget about relief and dimensions of Iran. There won't be any flat desert shooting range anymore, like in Iraq. If you look at the 1999 campaign against Yugoslavia, mountain relief helped a lot serbian army to avoid heavy losses from airstrikes. The same would be in Iran. In 1999 only massive strikes on civil infrastructure helped NATO to achieve its purposes. But... iranians aren't so dependant on infrastructure and have no such fear of death as serbians.

Unfortunately, during last 20 years our government mostly tries to be good and nice for EU/US but not to make independent policy which is good for Russia at first and for somebody else at second.:(

FFAA MOD Spanish army
spooky lynx replied to peloton's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Please make english stringtables. Especially for infantry units, it's hard to understand and remember, which one is basic infantry, which belongs to special forces, and which is rifleman/machinegunner/AT/engineer etc. -
Officially not yet, although PKP machinegun now is the only MG in some army branches like VDV (Airborne) and Special forces. Almost all military forces in "hot" zones like Caucasus prefer to use not RPK-74 but PKM only since middle 90-s. RPK/RPK-74 is rather long but cannot have much firepower because of 45-round mags and too thin and unchangeable barrel. Only its mags are used with AKs widely:)
-
My point of view is that IAR is a attempt to get new carbines without big debates and dipsutes in ministries and congress. Because nearly all IAR "relatives" like PRK or SA-80 LSW proved their inability to be used like machinegun because of their magazines. And now nobody uses widely any kind of this type of firearms like RPK, SA-80 LSW, M16 LSW, FAL 50.41 & 50.42 or MG-36. All of them were replaced either by Minimi or PKM.

Will non-OA version be made?
-
All I can say in this case is to wish "Good luck" to iranians.

The main reason of development and production of either Mk16 or HK416, ACR or some other 5,56 mm rifles is to get rifle more reliable in hard combat environment than any AR-15 family piece. So, as I've read in many articles (unfortunately, haven't dealed with any western weapon by myself and haven't compared their parameters), either 416 or SCAR proved their much growed reliability (if my memory doesn't cheat me, 4 times less jamming cases when SCAR compared with M4). Some people say that even development and production of M27 IAR is nothing like USMC's try to get some new carbines instead of M4 without superfluous debates and discussions in Congress.
-
So if they need 7,62 rifle they should point attention to some of the .308 variants of AR-10 or SR-25. I remember, what loud words had been said about SCAR program, about every its advantage. And now... Suddenly it doesn't have any noticeable advantages. BTW, its price would be much lower if it become not only SOF but whole army rifle instead of M4/M16 variants.

I seriously doubt that connections between Hamas, Hisballah and mythic Al-Quaeda are something more than fairytales which are the same as mass-media fairytales about global terrorism. As for OSCE, EU and US support of chechens - I know it from some of my relatives and friends who took part in both wars. The pressure from OSCE and EU emissaries became extremely hard especially when chechens were facing total defeat. Also, many articles which showed involving OSCE in the help to the gangs (medical aid, food, using of OSCE transport for gang leaders moving etc), were in "SOF" magazine (1996-2000 years). So, I don't see any reasons against Iran having WMD. It won't be able to defend itself by any conventional weapons when united US-NATO forces will invade it. Israel has the right to have WMD, France has, Great Britain has. And Iran, having non-west-friendly poiltical course, does not?
-
But do M4, HK416 and Mk17 have much common in spares? And are they easily converted in different variants as SCAR can be? If the SCAR doesn't have advantages, so all the SCAR program was BS? No ability of easy and fast convertion in different variants (CQ, normal, sharpshooter), no very common 5,56 and 7,62 models? The only weapons family which is like SCAR, is HK416/417. But I have no information about HK417 will be bought for army.

Iran supports Hamas and Hisballah, both of them hadn't said any words about Russia or Caucasus region in the last 4-5 years. These are mainly so-called "anti-western" organisations with local goals. And speaking about terrorist groups, if you look at the times of first and second Chechen wars, OSCE, EU and US government supported chechen gangs:rolleyes: Also, US fully supported Kurdish separatist organisations in Iraq. Moreover, look at those, who helped Bin Laden, Taliban and albanian terrorist gangs to raise. So, if you compare this facts with the amount of military operations against other nations even from mid 80-s till nowdays, who has no right to have WMD? There are a lot of iranian students studying in the universities of my city. So, I shouldn't say that Iran feels about Russia the same that it feels about the country, that treats Iran as land of mad evil fanatics just because iranians expelled pro-western shakh and his government. So, i fully agree with you about the countries that equipped with WMD and attack those who hasn't it (Yugoslavia, Iraq, Panama, Grenada, Afghanistan etc.).
-
Very strange decision... Now they will have even more problems with training and logistics because Mk17 will be retained in use. And I don't understand, how after such long tests and evaluations which showed SCAR's superiority, it "does not provide enough of a performance advantage over the M-4" The only reason I see - Colt has more influence on higher army command than any other.
-
I don't see any trouble if Iran really develops its own nuclear weapons. It has the right to have an effective way of defence. With the US and NATO being the only Iranian opponents since early 90's the missile with nuclear warhead is the only way to chill out some "falcons" sitting at the both banks of the Atlantic ocean. And only WMD will make some persons to respect opinion of Iran.

That was the real life but not cliché. And personally I would not like some alternative history in ArmA. -
CSLA Studio - work in progress thread
spooky lynx replied to MAA's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
As I've seen at the many photos, the difference between side and top of the hull is much lower than on the BIS model, and it's different only at the left side. Lack of addons? You guys now have a lot of US units to recreate both army and marines. So why do you use some unknown fictional army? -
Russian Army Base (FOB) template
spooky lynx replied to edgardeth's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Nice FOB, but I have one mention: I've never seen that helipads were inside such bases, either in Afghanistan or in Chechnya. If there is some place that can be used for chopper landing, it was situated 50-100 m far from base. In this case landed helicopter, which took heavy dammage and can explode, would not harm the base structures and personnel. -
In my opinion, which differs from what is discribed in wiki, freedom of speech also should include some kind of politeness. You wouldn't, but Vilas thinks it has purpose. It's his freedom of speech.
-
Freedom isn't equal to anarchy. And, as I see, freedom of speech in someone's opinion is ability to say everything you want.
-
As I see, mainly Vilas is bashed here for his impressive opinion, but not those journalists who don't have any kind of ethics. IMHO there should be no place for humor when such things happen and almost 100 persons die in horrible way. Those who had said that it's just freedom of speech, think about one thing: what would be your reaction, when your died relatives or friends will be the subject of the same so called funny cartoon?
-
Unfortunately, not everyone understands it...
-
My condolences to all Poles. That was severe strike. R.I.P. all who died.

Arma 2 1.06 Patch Suggestions
spooky lynx replied to Archamedes's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Special editor menu, in which player can change firearms of infantry units (the same as in rearm boxes) before mossion start and without long init commands writing would be much appreciated. Yeah, and PLEASE remove the ability of using AA and SA missiles for using against ground targets!!! -
But maybe the german media tells you only what you need to know but not what happened really?
