We could use your amazing skills, wanna join up? and btw sorry, I am not disrespecting your earlier OFP RHS work, but if you try version 2 you will understand how different things are, at this moment I think we may be using 10% of you work if such. Bionic already started replacing things and making root weapons for us, step by step we are implementing an entire new brand of weapons, in Vr2 you will understand it, as I said before I think all weapons have been changed like 80% each, all the new weapons (more or less 30) are entirely new so I think you understand me. However as Steve said we did mentioned you in the credits on Vr1 and we will certenaly mention you again in Vr2. But, it would be better if you would join RHS again, your skills are gold to ARMA my friend

    I think Marxis is asking if our future Vr2 will only work in ARMA, if that's the question yes or Marxis is asking if our future Version 2 will only have ARMA=Weapons in that case no, version 2 will have soldiers, weapons and some more surprises.

    Sure I'll wright you the tut, first try to read the thread I've posted above since it's already a mini tutorial, one thing that isn't mentioned there is that the script is case sensitive and that script has a small bug, I'll send you a better one once I arrive home. Than add me to your msn = [email protected] I'll be online in 7 hours from now (I'm at my office at this moment). Before you start, remenber what I said before, this is not easy, it's boring and takes a lot of time you really sure you wanna go for it? One thing is for example to merge 5 or 6 textures in this case you have 60 different sized, also before starting you must organize the textures by groups or else when mech normalizes the model he won't do it with effectinevess since he will have different model parts/textures in the same large texture which makes it a lot harder, so we aim to make one large texture for exterior and one large texture for interior. So for start (if you wanna take the job) start by wrighting down on a piece of paper or in a .txt file all the exterior textures of the HINDS with the size they have, example: ******.paa 1024x512 ******.paa 64x64 *******.paa 128x128. this for all the models, since we'll try to fit all the exterior textures of all the models inside a large one 2048x2048, if later we see it doesn't fit than we'll make a single exterior texture for each of the models which has advantajes and disadvantajes but don't worry about that part since that's for the future. When I arrive home I'll help you starting the mergining job

    RHS Hind v1.0 for ArmA

    It doesn't need new textures or normal maps, what is needs is to merge the existing textures. Merging textures requires a script to allow O2 to read it and requires to be able to join small textures into a large one inside Potohoshop with the ability to check the coordinates so you can later wright the srcipt. I tried it and again I loved it, everything looks great and works great, congrats to you guys and ty for your hard work If I may, a little sugestion only: For better gameplay I suggest a better work on the lods, instead of 1+5+10+15 (something like it) I suggest making the lods like BIS did 1+2+3+4+5+6 (6 if the model has more than 6.000 polys/faces on the 1st Lod) with a 50% decrease of polys/faces per Lod since it makes the game a lot smoother and it's a lot better for gameplay. In theory there's no advantaje in making lods beyond 6 because you can't see the weapons, unless your making the Shadow Lod of course. Just a sugestion, whatever you guys will do this MOD will always be a part of my addons folder and I'm already waiting with a lot of antecipation for your next MOD, ty.

    RHS Hind v1.0 for ArmA

    That's easy to fix, what the Hind needs the most is to have it's 60 textures merged in 1 or 2 or else this amazing HIND is an FPS killer. I've been working on it bit by bit since I can't do everything at the same time but this is not an easy job, this textures have sizes that go from 32x32 to 1048x256 so... it's a hard and very boring job to do. Any takers on helping merging this Hinds textures? Before anyone accepts let me tell you guys that this defenately isn't easy and it takes a lot of time and patience, I can teach anyone willing to do it. The 2 clear advantages of merging this textures are: 1 - Make this HIND an ARMA addon so it won't eat you your graphic card (FPS). 2 - Ability to normal map the HIND with efficience.

    With Jackal's help, after 6 hours of work, Rvmat files were added to all models  What is a .rvmat some may ask? Rvmat is a config that goes directely to the model giving it straight information on how to use normal maps and where to load the files for doing so. Advantages: 1 - Ability to view and change normal mapped models directely in O2/Viwer, so no more openeing the game to check how normal maps are looking like. 2 - Possibility to normal map Lods individually which somehow should improve gameplay. I've only normal mapped the Pilot View and the 1st Lod, from my tests everything is working great. In theory (someone help me here if I'm wrong) at something like 15 meters this weapons instead of using 3 textures (normal texture + Bump + Specular) are only reading one. Disadvantages: 1 - None. *********** All weapons have 5 distance lods now + Geometry + Memory + Pilot View + Shadow Lod, so they are exactely like BIS lods with a decrease of more of  less 50% poly/faces per lod, this allows with no doubts a smoother gameplay. As I keep learning the new O2 I will of course implement all the new features available in this weapons.
  10. Because I'm not superior I expect the same kind of respect I have with other people, this is a game it's a modern toy, how can there be any sort of superiority here? Nowone is superior because makes better or worse addons, as a mater affect I consider mission makers a lot more important than addon makers to ARMA, but important is on the game perspective because in real life who cares? I always said all addons are equal, it all depends on the perspective. One thing is for certain, I don't think an addon maker should wright explanations or reservations in his thread, an addon maker is working for you free and you should take it being kind and respectful that's it, of course the same applies to the mission makers which are many times (unfortunately) forgotten. I am always kind respectfull towards other addon makers because they make my game better, when possible I try to help giving my knowledge on a technicall point of view (which isn't much). In my opinion and unfortunately many people bring their real life problems to the game and explode because of things that really ain't important... . If you visit some threads (not this one) you will see people arguing because of really stupid things... . So to me there are only 2 possible explanations for this, one they are teenagers, two, people here have many real life problems and bring them to this forum. One good example of this is the Placebo problem, imo the current moderators do a good job, the problem of this forum is not on the moderators the problem is on the people, good forum menbers make good forum Moderators, Placebo was lucky to start with good forum menbers, now and unfortuanately things have changed a lot. You must fight problems on their root or else the flowers will always grow ugly.
  11. That's something that came to my mind many times while reading this entire thread but than again there is another that I just can't let go, maybe I'm wrong but... ... why should a person that is working free for another person need to excuse herself?

  13. This post is somehow interesting and than somehow pointless because it opens up an interesting topic but in reality it won't change anything. Most of our forum menbers are 15/16 years old, and we can't expect teenagers to act like grown man, I've been a teenager 20 years ago (probably like some of you reading this) and we know that at that age we want to play and have fun and we want it fast, there is no real sense of what should or not should be said or done. It's in our nature, we can't fight it, and if we start some sort of dictatorship here applying rules probably half of the crowd will go away because from a teenager point of view the lack of freedom is associated with the lack of interest, trust me I know about this things I almost got married with a nice Portuguese Psychologist hahahaha. Nevertheless I always like to drop by my opinion on this matter and so here it is: Â The main problem is not really the public, the main problem is the ability of the addon maker to deal with negative critics, which is understandable by the ammount of work some addon makers have and also by the philosophy they have in making addons which sometimes is not the same as the one the public have (or some of the public). In my opinion large MOD teams should have a person that deals with the ""press"", more or less like we see today on the soccer teams and on the major enterprises, a guy that gives the head for the team and that deals with public. An option B would be the one some MODS take which is to release pictures and open forum threads once it's released. Now from my perssonel experience I had clearely 2 situations so far: The first one was when I worked on my Racs I posted things to let people know my work but despite the controversy or despite the fact of it being real or not, I knew for once that I would never change anything I posted since it's what I like, what I use and what I was going to offer to people on that release and I was prepared to ""almost"" all sort of critics (Racs ain't real so reality was not my target), since some were a little bit against my principles of comunication, I lost control of the thread on some slight moments, fortunately I took it back I can quote some of the problems here: ... Ofcourse some guys can say you should have posted that you really didn't want to change anything to avoid this problems, well... why should I? It's my thread I don't owe anything to anyone, maybe some people should think twice before posting their opinions about other people's work which might not be the same approach they have. But... as I said a teenager don't have this kind of sensibility so we can't expect miracles here, adults have... well some do, maybe it's an accident... it's forgotten. After reading it I asked kindly to save the person that wrote that from his own words "Mods, ban me if you like" but it wasn't necessary since it wasn't that bad... nevertheless my approach made some sense to me, I somehow got the control back again. Perssonaly I always try to give technical advices never reality/beauty... whatever since i don't like to interfer with the addon maker's taste, it may happen by accident but I avoid it all costs, I think freedom is by far the most important part on the creation. Now my second experience with ARMA was tottaly different which is RHS: I asked Steve to open a forum thread exactely because I wanted to make it real... or almost... since real is impossible (this is a game) so I opened the thread exactely to adquire the kind of information I knew we were missing since from the 12 RHS menbers only one is Russian so somehow I felt like we could use some help and dispite again some minor problems I think we managed to deal with all the good and bad critics and above all, we managed to extract the information we were needing. Later we got some very good advisors, NSX and FW200 are 2 examples. This is my perssonel experience so far in ARMA since at OFP times things were a lot easier to deal with, hope it helps someone Â

    Sorry for hijacking but... besides allowing the preview directely in O2, do you see any other advantage so far? Like you, I've also been trying to understand it and so far I see this .rvmat files as a simple config that loads with O2 to allow the viewer to display the normal maps.

  20. Has RockofSL said it's probably Shadow Lods, it makes sense, it's a question of trying a different shadow on the same model in one of the other lods and than se if it changes at distance. If it doesn't than maybe checking the shadow inside a vehicle or at high altitude... Just some ideas, sooner or later we'll find out.
  21. My guess is that it has something to do with the way the model casts shadows on a certain type of situation... inside vehicles? On in the air??

    here goes some cents... Personally I don't care if people use my work, normally people ask and I always say YES, some don't ask and I never bothered getting into problems because of it. If it makes someone happy and if that someone shares it with others it's fine by me, this is just a game or a modern toy as some like to call it, since I'm not selling it doesn't bother me at all, as I always said, my work is free as soon as it's released for everybody to use, I never even bothered asking for credits, I don't make this my life and this is defenatly not my job so... it's for fun. However I understand the addon makers who's work has somehow been used, and I understand that some people don't like their work to be used by others, specially without permission. Now to the topic , I tried it and Messiah is 100% correct, indeed some of this weapons are from the UKF L96 pack and the Snipers Soldiers I have a feeling where he got them from too... . But that's not my business anyway.
