    Roger wilco anyone?

To each his own. I honestly don't see the attraction. RW doesn't sound half as good as ingame voice (a purely subjective statement). I obviously don't play in the same places as most of you folks; I don't run into these annoyances (Well, I do, but nothing close to the number of incidents needed to warrant using something different). Nothing to setup, everything is already there and ready to go, and I don't care how many sessions RW has -- you still can't be the global, side, vehicle, group channels. The game automaticly sorts it all out. You don't have to cordinate the switching between the various elements.

    Roger wilco anyone?

Heh. I haven't noticed any problems with spammers or music players lately. Most of the servers I play on have a good number of them banned. Heh. IMHO, RW is an extremely poor replacement for ingame voice. I can't imagine using it with OFP.

    Roger wilco anyone?

We spoke about your efforts with dismay. The concensus then was that RW was substandard in comparison to ingame voice, and that anyone who would attempt to enlist others in his cause of using RW with OFP, must not be fully aware of the game's intrinsic capabilities.

Run over by a dead man.

Heh. It was the WKK map with the aircraft that would respawn.

    Roger wilco anyone?

Heh. You know there is ingame voice. You were a point of fierce discussion awhile back on a server I saw you on. Of course you didn't hear any of it, we were using ingame voice. Whats wrong with ingame voice anyways? IMHO, it sounds better than roger wilco. Roger wilco can't use the various channels either, and as you have seen, it's not terribly easy to cordinate a game using a RW server. With ingame voice all the work is done for you. All you have to do is connect and toggle the voice key. It couldn't be simpler.

Run over by a dead man.

I think I was. Was that the map where you had to drive like 20km in a jeep? If so, that was pretty bad. I spent the whole time balancing on top of a machinegun. I think we ended up rounding a turn too quickly, slamming into a jeep. Boy, that was a pain. We had to drive all the way back.

Run over by a dead man.

Thats happened to me a couple of times. I shoot the pilot, the vehicle continues on its path, usually winding up slamming right into me (Unfortunately, standing right in front of a vehicle awards you the best view of the occupant).

    Logs in OFP

I think you misread my comments. I am for logs. The second comment was in reply to the question of, "how best to approach BIS to get this done." Heh. I said it as a joke.

    Config.bin modifications

I'm not sure how OFP handles the config. If it is loaded into memory at bootup or before the mission, stored without removal for the duration, you would have to check the memory itself. This is no easy task, it's even harder when you have no knowledge of where it's being held. You would have to invest the same amount of time and effort as any cheat developer. Infact, you would probably have dedicate more time and effort. Besides, BIS seems to be in a better position to handle all of this. They possess the knowledge, tools, and ability to do all of this. Without reverse engineering the game and breaking the EULA. All the above is speculation anyways. Another reason why they are in a better position to handle all of this. They already know the answers to most of these questions.

Hashing, stirring in a challenge as the seed works well (it's far from infallible though). Server side checks work well also. "Does everything seem to appear fine? Any unusual behavior?" There are many options which can be tried. I don't think digital signatures on all the mods is very practical or workable, that is, if you want to have a very bustling or free mod community. Nothing is impossible, or close to. You just have to try your best to counter any sort of attack which could be performed. It's unfortunate that there are elements in our community who wouldn't think twice about investing time in developing such horrible things.

    New mission: somalia '93 (1-18 c)

Great! I always wanted to play a peace keeper. Handing out sacks of grain... giving small children injections... creating sources of safe drinking water for the elderly and frail... This OFP mission is going to be extremely unique! I bet we will see a whole bunch of other missions based around the same concept. You could do a mission set just after ww2, 'The Berlin Airlift'. The possibilities are endless!

    Suggestion for developers

While this would make it easier to perform these actions, I really don't see how this adds any functionality. The functionality is already there. 95% of the people that frequent the servers I do, don't read the manual or the readme. There is always one every game who either doesn't know where to go, what to select, which weapons do what, etc. Even fewer people actually know how to use the vote commands. Even more disheartening are people who insist others vote for them, yet they don't know how to act once they are voted in. I have seen more then a few of these in my day. Not to knock the ignorant or the newbie, but I suggest BIS dedicate their time to more pressing issues. There are still some glaring bugs in the game, along with major annoyances (The repeating radio AI, and many others too numerous to mention). People already possess the ability in the game to perform these actions, through their laziness they limit their abiliities. It's not terribly complicated or poorly defined, it's just not conveniant enough for the people among us who don't care to read the documentation, even at the cost in time and energy of others.

    Logs in OFP

Heh. Any serious administrator will tell you that they live and die by logs. How can you work without them (i've never attempted to run a OFP server)? It's like driving a car without side and rear-view mirrors. It can be done, but god forbid you ever have to do anything besides drive straight forward. Extending my previous analogy, not wanting logs citing the use of stats is like not wanting the mirrors because you don't want to see your own reflection. Heh. No, don't try to read too deeply into it. I'm just saying it's a very weak argument. All of this spells a big car wreck (cheaters, hard to trace performance / stability problems, etc). Then you will go to the car dealer, ask the manager to see your car... Ok! No more car analogies!

Playing flashpoint over an ipx/spx network

Heh. I'm like ice. I just thought it was an interesting choice of words, thats all. I wasn't offended in the least. I did find it quite humourous though.

Playing flashpoint over an ipx/spx network

Heh. "You're boned?" Is that some sort of replacement for the very ubiquitous, obscene and vulgar, F word? Heh. Not that you offended my very insensitive sensibilities, but that isn't much better. In fact, when you say that, I think of the obscene act itself. That's like instead of saying the S word, I use poop or fecies. Now which one is nicer? I will let you be the judge.

    Scoreboard...

Heh. I never did understand the scoring system. BIS needs to outline how many points are awarded for what. Make an entire document explaining how it works. You would need to be a rocket scientist to figure it out just through observation. BTW, if you need to best hosted let me know.... actually don't. Heh. If I ever need something hosted I will just jump on here and ask.

    Your coolest MP kill?

Heh. This blackhawk was circling our flag with his stupid passengers (they were not jumping out, I guess they were waiting to land). Anyways, the machinegunner is shooting our guys up pretty good. I'm in the bush, and as the chopper loses momentum in the turn, the nose starts to dip and face towords me (the ground). I raise my SVD. Single shot through the canopy. Must have been a headshot. The chopper goes into a nose dive. Slams right into the ground all of ten meters in front of me. Heh. There was no survivors. There was alot of screaming about cheating after that...

Large amounts of data sent to and from ofp server?

    Bah! You're biased.

Large amounts of data sent to and from ofp server?

I disagree. It depends on your area and the quality of the lines. DSL is rather finicky about the quality of the line, distance to the DSLAM / CO, etc. Cable has it's own share of problems (thermal swelling, just to name one of many). But by and large, the cable companies usually upgrade their infastructure a bit more when they roll out internet service. The phone companies sometimes do, but it seems like they just do things on a case by case basis. "Are you x miles from the CO?", "We will send out a tech to run a line test", "Your line seems to be working fine. Now we will toss you off to someone else." Heh. The phone company doesn't have many economic incentives to upgrade their old copper infastructures just to improve data service. There are too many competing interests with DSL. As I understand it, cable internet companies (the now defunct @home) don't have to report to the PUC, as long as one of the cable companies they serve don't have a controlling interest (@home was owned by a couple cable companies I think, I don't think any of them ever had a majority stake, but I could be wrong), and I don't think that thing with the FCC went anywhere. Leaving them alot of freedom. Just getting DSL service seems like being in the middle of a battle between the CLEC and the phone company. Both sides blaming the other for their problems. You still have the ISP to deal with. I haven't and I won't touch upon the myriad of different DSL techonologies. People have written books explaining the differences between them. You have to get an ISP. Another potential bottleneck, and another cost. The cable ISP may be horrible (I have seen many of these), and you get a choice with DSL. But it's just another variable that has to be taken into consideration, weighed, and thought about. This goes beyond the convenience factor. What if something with your DSL services goes awry? You may have to speak to two or three different organizations. The ILECs may appear to offer something similiar to cable. You still run into alot of problems though. SBC/Pacbell (the bell in my area, a member of the new three hundred pound gorilla) is notorious for offering less then decent DSL service. I have heard the same things elsewhere. In a perfect world, DSL would be better. In the real world, maybe under the most ideal circumstances, you will get better service. But in my very limited experience, cable seems to offer the easiest and -- the very subjective mark of -- better service, most of the time. Alot of this information is anecdotal and probably incomplete. It could be flat out wrong. Ed would probably have alot more to say about all of this.

Why not make a correction post? Heh. Honesty is the best policy. If you said something which you don't want to be seen anymore, post a correction, don't edit out your post. It creates holes in the thread. When people read them, they see responses to things which are no longer there. Good recipe for confusion.
