Loading old vanilla Arma maps in Arma 2 with CAA1 - Just Wow - Performance & Beauty
Potatomasher replied to p75's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I just downloaded all those OAC & CAA1 files and put my favourite Arma1 usermade campaign PMC First fight to arma2 campaign folder. Campaign worked right away with no errors. Only briefings and tasks are missing. It's so strange to play this now. Like i'm playing Arma1, but all the new fancy details of new Arma2 engine. :D -
Restarting doesn't help if you have the same bug as some of us have. After you have united NAPA & CDF. I have waited a month now for patch so that i can continue playing. Frustrating but what can you do... wait...wait some more...

Faster moves for a better simulation
Potatomasher replied to pluton88's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
I think OP just want Arma2 to feel just like another COD shooter were it feels like you are controlling a fucking window in world. So better simulation my ass. It's now as it is best i have ever seen in any game. Head bopping (camera shake), gear sounds, breathing, blur & etc. -

If we are talking about generally americans so i think nudity is a big NO. If we can trust the surveys they have made... They allow childrens to see killings, but porn is not tolerated. I heard in germany it's the other way around. Porn is cool, but violence not. :D Crazy world i say...

Hahhah. I still remember him too. What a great "tunnel" fps game that was at that time. Loved those patrols and dialogue between team members.

Thanks for the heads up. I think it would be a good idea. That way we get the patches more sooner and we don't have to wait days for the testing phase to complete. The final patches are tested before release or am i wrong ? :D

I finally had an amazing time with ARMA 2
Potatomasher replied to haberman13's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Indeed. It's a shame that 80% of the servers are running those. I too like coop games, but not like that. Where the hell are regular old fashion coop missions (OFP) without consolish goddamned respawns. If your dead, you are DEAD. No biggie, just start again. I have always considered respawns as a cheat in every game. If i complete some mission using respawn in my mind i know i really haven't completed it properly. It haunts me afterwards. I loved big missions where you walk long distances in woods with your squad occasionally encountering enemy patrols and finally after 1 hour you get to the target area and half of your squad was left dead behind. But when you completed the mission with only couple of guys left to celebrate it felt so good. I remember i died many times right in the first fireifight in big coop mission, but i didn't get bored of the waiting. I find it interesting to observe friends playing style and maybe learned something. I was stunned when i first saw that stupid flag pole in some evo mission that you can use to teleport yourself to target area. Jesus... In fact i have had more fun playing regular DM than Evo or domination. :butbut: To be honest nowadays i just stick with good SP missions. No flagpoles, respawns and other shit that doesn't belong to realistic military simulator. -
I don't mind if they make it selectable so that guys that like it can leave it on, but if they just remove it totally i would be angry. IMO cursing & gore has always been part of the war throughout the history. If you can shoot and kill people in game so you must be ready to listen curse words and see blood & guts. No ? This game tries to achieve ultimate military simulator title so i think BIS have done a good job increasing the immersion with those little details.

Will my PC Run this? What CPU/GPU to get? What settings? System Specifications.
Potatomasher replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Sorry for OT, but that pic link before spoiler tag is hilarious. I always burst in laughing whenever i see that "Chemical Ali" guy. And i have to admit that text under is bullseye too apparently for some people and their high end machines. :D -
I had the same problem when i was in that mission. The AI didn't pick the tags for me so i searched the 3 guys and if i remember correctly i had to use the hide body command and the tags appeared where the body was. The tags weren't visible in command menu to pick up before i had hided the body for some ankward reason.

I'm so extremely !*#%@% tired of Windows Vista... Poor you, BIS.
Potatomasher replied to laggy's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
None. They have nothing do to with Arma2 performance. I suggest you look elsewhere the problem. -
Good point. I have owned X360 since 2007 and during 07-09 i played mostly console games. PC was used just for web. Before 07 i played only PC games from the days i got my 486dx. DCS:Black shark and now Arma2 pulled me back to PC.

How about giving the player ability to call fire support one or couple of times. Mortar team or direct missile attack from jets in the air. That way it would be much easier and realistic at the same time. If it's becoming too easy after that you could lower the amount of friendly troops or place a trigger that sends more enemy infantry reinforcements after a while. Or add a mission before actual assault where you sabotage the armored vehicles in the night with satchels. Though i would prefer the first fire support scenario because of the fun of it and we have had enough sabotage mission before in OFP, Arma. :) Update !

I tried lowering the enemy skill to novice and friendly to expert, but it didn't help a lot. The problem is the game and how the AI is programmed. There are couple of armored targets in the airfield that needs to be taken care of, but all my friendly troops use the rpg:s to infantry. Me and my men were butchered like pigs in there second time. :( Maybe after the 1.03 patch this mission will play better if BIS adress the bugs in the game.

Make new folder called campaigns in the Arma2 root folder and put the cmp file there. Like Arma2/campaigns/*.pbo Now it should be visible in the campaign selection screen. Just made it to the assault part of the mission. Damn i got slaughtered at first try. :)

Cool. I liked your work in Arma so i have high hopes this will be great campaign.

Its Official Patch 1.03 Release is Somewhat Imminent
Potatomasher replied to teaboy's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Aaargh. Useless thread again about patch. I thought it was released when i saw "official patch 1.03" words written in a topic title. One week suspension for the topic starter. -

I fed up with performance of Chernarus, but... I'm having lot's of fun with mission wizard using Utes map. It really makes some interesting simple missions. I mean you don't have to have shitload of tanks and rpg:s in every mission. These kind of infantry patrol missions with just small arms & beautiful gfx is satisfying also. Performance in Utes is wonderful compared to Chernarus. Running minimum of 30fps stable with almost maxed details & PP high. -

Yes there really is many tweaks here & there. I don't remember a single game that users had posted this many tweaks. :D I have probably used more time to try out different settings than playing the damn game. :) -
bad graphics performance - BiS confirm?
Potatomasher replied to 7SD-Toker's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I would like to know too, but i'd be surprised if we get any info until patch is released. -

Well everyone can use setting they find best. Fraps clearly show that 3 or lower is definetly better than 8 so that's what i use. -

I think it's the other way around. If your CPU is bottlenecking then you should lower that pre rendered frames by the CPU. That way your CPU can use more power to AI calculations and not rendering stuff that should be done with GPU. I changed that to 0 and i got more stable framerates now. Obviously maximum fps didn't increase, but overall fps is slightly better. It doesn't go under 20 so often. -
SP Mission: Sweep & Strike
Potatomasher replied to UbiquitousUK's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - USER MISSIONS
Good old fashion assault mission. I didn't encounter any bugs at all. Bravo team assaulted in to the city with me after i entered the center of the city. They were very helpful eliminating the rest of the enemy forces in town. Then i crouched to good spot and watched the fireworks. :D
