    Operation Northstar is dead.

Can we get OFP.info to host some of the addons? I think the limit in rapidshare is something like 30mb, that's the largest file I've seen them host. I have also heard of another host site http://www.qfile.de It's all in German I think but it works pretty good at times. What about the ONS official website? Is it possible to host the addons there? Just some suggestions.

    Operation Northstar is dead.

Sad to see ONS go, I will miss your hard work in the OFP community. Hope you can find a mirror soon to release the unfinished addons. On another note with permission and credit given to ONS may the community work on and further develop these addons (I just started on Breathe, Oxygen and scripting...Very Basic stuff). Thanks again for all your hard work, time and dedication.

    M4's for weapon Individualism

Great progress STGN, About the db levels, I whipped out my Special Weapons for Military and Police 2004, which did an article on about 30 different .223 suppressors using M4s, M16s, CAR-15s and Ruger Mini-14s. It reminded me that the decibel scale is logarithmic rather than linear, so even a reduction in eleven dbs is significant. The author tested and measured the decibels to that of an air pistol, a Crosman Amercian Classic Model 1377, a .177 caliber air pistol, and it delivers between 120 and 123 dbs! An unsuppressed M4 gives off 164 db a M4 suppressed with a KAC (Knights Armament Company) M4QD suppressor delivers 132 db. That 10 to 12 db increase than an air pistol, though dbs are logarithmic. Subsonic ammo was also used in testing and it demonstrated an increase in reduction of 5 to 7 dbs compared to using full power ammunition with a suppressor.

    M4's for weapon Individualism

Cool addon STGN. I believe in real life the MP5SD does not function properly with subsonic rounds. However, when loaded with full power ammo it brings in down to subsonic velocity. Check HKPRO.com they say state that it brings the velocity down by about 200 fps. I think you know this but just in case you didn't. Suppressors don't silence more than they change the sound. Suppressors change the sound of gunshots into everyday noises. The MP5SD for example sounds more like a staple or nail gun than a gunshot, which is quiet and not suspicious. I have read reports that M16/M4 suppressors can reduce as much as 30db and make it sound more like a .22LR which is noticeable but on the battlefield very quiet and nonthreatening. Lastly, Finnish snipers famously used suppressors against the Nazi invasion have an old proverb dating back to the Winter War "A silencer does not make a soldier silent, but it does make him invisible." A good suppressor should elminate the visual and sonic cues that could subject the armed professional to effective counterfire from enemy personnel. Source: Guns & Weapons for Law Enforcement Volume 12 Number 2. - Silenced Sako TRG-42 .338MAG by Al Paulson. Source: HKPRO.com I also concur that a suppressor can increase velocity by acting as a barrel extension. Looking forward to your updates.

LSR US Navy SEALs Beta 0.5 Released

Great job Laser, The units look really good. One thing I did notice that you did not include a SEAL medic or corpman. Just noticed it when I was trying to come up with a mission for them. Oh, well it is a beta and I bet you already had planned a medic or corpman for the official release. Excellent work overall Laser!

    bullet penetration

Shadow.D. ^BOB^ your right about the Hague convention however "In late 1985, the Judge Advocate General wrote an opinion which affirmed that expanding ammo was legal for the US to use in operations "not involving the engagement of the armed forces of another State" (like counter terrorist operations, for example). In 1990, another opinion permitted the use of the Sierra MatchKing hollowpoint round by US snipers, reasoning that it was not designed to expand or fragment and that the hollowpoint design was a result of the requirements for manufacturing super-accurate bullets. Then in 1993 Special Operations Command was given the go-ahead by the Judge Advocate General to equip their forces with JHP rounds (Winchester "Black Talon" at the time) for their H&K MK 23 pistols." excerpt from http://www.ammo-oracle.com/body.htm#milhollow Many spec-ops use JHPs and such since they are paramilitary units and outside the realm of the Genva convention, and the Hague convention in 1907. The SS109 or M855 ammo (5.56mm*45mm NATO round) is designed not to expand. However it does tumble and fragment at or above the right velocity (about 2700 fps). This means the round will turn after enter the body at about a 45 degree angle and then fragment inside the body. The Russians also developed the 5.45*39mm round. "It has a lead base in its radical boat-tail, a steel penetrator in the center and a hollow tip beneath its FMJ envelope. The 5.45 bullet is nearly twice the length of the 5.56, resulting in superior in-flight characteristics, excellent hard target penetration and devastating wounding ability on human targets." Gunworld January 2004. As long as the bullet is not designed to expand or fragment the bullet gets by the convention.

    two operation flashpoint 2s?

I thought the poseidon engine was designed by BIS and USED in OFP which Codemasters has the right to the name OFP. Anyhow I think there will be only one game coming out. These are my reasons. 1. If Codemasters were making OFP2 how come they took their name of the operationflashpoint2.com website. It should be there and BIS shouldn't because they don't have the right to the name anymore. 2. The announcement to split was made after work on OFP2 started. I don't know the details but usually the such a separation would take place AFTER they have completed any ongoing projects. For example look at Disney and Pixar. Pixar split from Disney right before "The Incredibles" was released. It takes around 4 to 5 years to create a Disney movie, and if you look Disney and Pixar's names are both on the upcoming film "Cars" created by Pixar and published by Disney. Why? The split does not include ongoing projects already signed between the two companies. All new Pixar films created after the split are not going to be published, promoted and distributed by Disney. 3. BIS would lose money and almost a full game if they split right away. Since they were working on OFP2 which Codemasters was to publish, promote and distribute all the work on the game would belong to Codemasters since all work was under or for OFP2 which Codemasters owns. My best guess is that OFP2 will be made by BIS and published by Codemasters and Armed Assault will be made by BIS and published either by themselves or another company. That's how I see it.

    Blue Vs Red Team Sides

Really, I didn't know you could. Thanks for the info 4 IN 1. More importantly I don't know how. Any tutorial on how do that? I would like to find out how.

    Blue Vs Red Team Sides

I don't know if this has been suggested yet (I searched but didn't find anything close). But how about creating a different sides or team editor. Since OFP 2 is supposed to take place around 2010, I think it might be prudent to have Russians and NATO units on the same sides (at times or special missions or user created missions). Russia has increased cooperation with the U.S. and was part of a group of nations that went to Kosovo. I propose changing it from East vs West to Blue VS Red in the Mission Editor and many a separate category for Resistance where they could side either way or against all. Where you can chooses which nations (hoping not just Resistance, Cilivian, West [u.S.], East [Russia]). So you could choose which side the nation would belong to. So fictionally you could have a war between China and Russia, where Russia is supported by NATO (AKA: Tom Clancy's Bear and the Dragon). Hopefully with custom addons we could have separate countries. VME (China), Swissmod (Swiss), UKF (British), BWMOD (Germany) you get the picture. I think it might be fun, what do you think?

    Armed Assault Pictures

Found them while searching for more info. http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/armedassault/screenindex.html It looks good I just wonder how much the engine has changed. How many "limitations" have been solved. Check the screenshots out anyway they look quite good. Looks like there is a new black-op or SF soldier model and some models are shown wearing grenades on their vests.

    LSR Addons

Got new batteries for my camera and took some more pictures without the flash. http://img19.echo.cx/my.php?image=img08191pm.jpg http://img19.echo.cx/my.php?image=img08200pr.jpg http://img19.echo.cx/my.php?image=img08266wh.jpg http://img19.echo.cx/my.php?image=img08271ts.jpg Gordy: Snapped these pictures of my magazine. Note that it is a pinned magazine it seen easily been seen in the last picture. They are a little blurred I think due to my cropping and resizing since the original files where close to 2 MB in size. http://img19.echo.cx/my.php?image=img08250ic.jpg http://img19.echo.cx/my.php?image=img08212zh.jpg http://img19.echo.cx/my.php?image=img08229ni.jpg http://img19.echo.cx/my.php?image=img08234an.jpg http://img19.echo.cx/my.php?image=img08243av.jpg

    LSR Addons

Hi Laser, Finally got my camera back. I was able to get some pictures however I need to get new batteries so I got as many as I could. http://img129.echo.cx/my.php?image=img08047cl.jpg http://img129.echo.cx/my.php?image=img08052sj.jpg http://img212.echo.cx/my.php?image=img08070iu.jpg http://img212.echo.cx/my.php?image=img08080zt.jpg Laser, do you have any plans to incorporate CoCs swimming system into the SEALs so they can well swim to and from their objectives. The units look very promising, perhaps to differentiate between groups you could add SEALs in scuba gear, wetsuits and oxygen tanks. Just a thought, hope to add more pics soon. Additional Pictures (had to reduce their file sizes) http://img73.echo.cx/my.php?image=img08188pb.jpg http://img73.echo.cx/my.php?image=img08100qv.jpg http://img73.echo.cx/my.php?image=img08115fh.jpg http://img73.echo.cx/my.php?image=img08155nh.jpg http://img73.echo.cx/my.php?image=img08124kp.jpg http://img73.echo.cx/my.php?image=img08136ax.jpg http://img73.echo.cx/my.php?image=img08162ec.jpg http://img179.echo.cx/my.php?image=img08147dc.jpg http://img179.echo.cx/my.php?image=img08154dq.jpg http://img179.echo.cx/my.php?image=img08176xi.jpg Hope this helps. Sorry if they aren't the best I have to get new batteries. BAS's EOTECH sight view is pretty good ingame, maybe you could use it as well with their permission of course. Any chance we might see your SEALs with their new MK11 Mod 0 Precision Rifle System? I believe it is officially adopted only be the SEALs that needed a more compact SR-25. You can find more info @ http://www.knightarmco.com/mk11mod0.html Great work again (as always) Laser.

    USN Tarawa pack

Nice work Phil! The a fix in the FPS drop would be nice but it is more outstanding your work into such a project! As for those being paid to create such things they have something called deadlines. They also usually just do what is asked of them. I knew someone who was thinking of working for EA, but when he read the fine print and any artistic, creative, or programming work he does (even outside of work) is technically owned by the company, EA in this case since it is in their contract.

    LSR Deltas/Rangers/Weapons 2.0 Released

Thanks for the reply Laser. Just from the net I found these http://www.eotech-inc.com/images/552_r1.jpg http://www.eotech-inc.com/images/reticle2.gif http://www.eotech-inc.com/images/obstruct.gif http://www.eotech-inc.com/images/soldiers_fog.jpg http://www.eotech-inc.com/images/four_soldiers.jpg http://www.eotech-inc.com/images/two_510.jpg This article talks about EOTECHs contract to USSOCOM specifically the Naval Warfare Surface Center. http://www.eotech-inc.com/news_articles.php When I get my digital camera back (hopefully tonight) I should be able to get some pictures posted. I can probably get some pictures of it by itself and mounted on an AR-15.

    Ah-1W - Super Cobra

Thanks gatordev for the info. I don't have much information on the use of hellfire in the navy and marines, thanks for the tip!. Vit: No need to rush on the AH1Z, I'm having fun with these choppers already! Is it possible to create non-high explosive 20mm rounds? I have no idea if there is such a thing, but I saw a clip from 24 that showed AH1W's blasting terrorists with their cannons but no explosions (Might just be for TV but it could be handy for CAS missions where friendly infantry would be in close with the enemy). If not it's great already just tangent thought. Great Work!
