Game needs an attachment system
MavericK96 replied to D00mbuggy's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
This right here is actually the main reason why I'd like to see an attachment system. Right now it's a bunch of acronyms that, while I understand some of them, don't all necessarily convey to me personally what exactly I'm getting. The idea of the "attachment system", to me, is more like just a front-end for the weapon selection/gear screen, where you can choose the base rifle and then any attachments that are available. No new models would even have to be added; it would just make the weapon selection a lot more understandable for non-military folk like myself. -
I've read about that, too, and it's not actually an issue. In fact, many people (including Microsoft) seem to say putting the paging file on an SSD is one of the best things you can do. That aside, my real question was if it was better to have the game alone on the SSD or if it was the same (performance-wise) to have the OS on there as well. @Wolfstriked: Yeah, it doesn't do much to help stutter really, but it does help the texture LOD switching a bit as you mentioned. @Antigoon: Page file is what your computer uses when it is unable to use more RAM, and is stored/accessed on the HDD or SSD, depending on where it's assigned. Doing a google search on page files should help, but there are some who believe that having 6+ GB of RAM you no longer need a page file, which is untrue in my experience. I've had programs (ArmA2 included) crash with "out of memory" issues when disabling the page file.

For some, yes. Some also say no. You'd just have to try them for yourself.
-
Disagree. I think it still needs to be toned down for crouching, possibly a bit for standing. It's impossible to put more than 1 shot in rapid succession into a target, say, 150m away.

Maybe it's ATi related, then. I think people have been having some issues with their latest drivers IIRC.

ARMA 2 OA: Post Process Settings Decoded
MavericK96 replied to maruk's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Really as you go up in detail (in terms of static screenshots, anyway) the only thing you will notice is that everything gets slightly more blurry and as SSAO is added, grass seems to darken a bit as it has new ambient shadowing effects. That's really the only thing I've noticed while looking at a static screen. Moving, however, you'll see a lot more difference in terms of HDR and motion blur. That said, I too would like to see seperate options for PP effects, so we could pick and choose what we like and maximize performance as well. -
I actually noticed this as well...Went up into the radio tower in Utes near the landing strip and the shadows would flash on and off inside the building. Pretty strange.
-
SO confused.
-
Yeah, I noticed this as well, and this is a really big problem if BIS is going to keep the current recoil model.

This is the closest thing I can find to an SSD thread about ArmA2, so I will use this thread to ask my question: When using an SSD, would it be better for the game to run the OS and other apps off of a different drive, and just have ArmA2 and maybe the page file on the SSD? Or is performance pretty much the same just running the OS and ArmA2 off the SSD together?

ARMA2 & OA's Steam Thread: All Steam Q's/discussions go here [covered by Dwarden]
MavericK96 replied to gimpymoo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Right-click on the game in Steam, select Properties. Then go to the Local Files tab and click "Verify Integrity of Game Cache". It should then take some time to verify your files against the Steam download cache. -
ARMA2:OA runs a very low fps in Zargabad, and GPU usage is less then 50%
MavericK96 replied to msy's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I would give Default a shot if I were you. I use it and it works great, texture loading and performance is a lot better. -
Do you see any performance loss having the negative LOD bias allowed?

Game needs an attachment system

Good point, I forgot how the magazine system worked, in that the gun itself does not contain any magazines but you have to add them all manually to your inventory. Thanks for the clarification. -
Haven't heard of that issue, but make sure your Interface res and 3D res are the same.

What's your Video Memory set at? Try Very High or (better yet) Default. -

Great work, Myke. One question, though: when changing weapons, does your magazine default back to full rounds, as it would seem like it would when switching out weapons? I could see this being exploited as an "infinite ammo" cheat. -
I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure they didn't change anything regarding sounds, lighting, or textures in this beta. Also, what does setting Allow Negative LOD bias do for you?
-
Same here. I think LAA has made the game a bit more stable (i.e. less, if any, "out of memory" errors anymore) but it doesn't really utilize more RAM than before.

Which recoil model do you prefer?
MavericK96 replied to celery's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - BETA PATCH TESTING
Yeah, I'm starting to think that it should return to center if you fire off one shot and then wait for a short while. If you fire rapidly, it should start to rise. The problem with the way it is now is that firing one shot moves the cursor way off target (if you are shooting at targets far away, for example, the effect is really severe). I feel like I am constantly dragging my mouse down just for controlled single-shot fire. -
NVIDIA video card(s) owners read here!
MavericK96 replied to Dwarden's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Report back and let us know if that worked. I've been getting the same driver crashes with the latest sets. -
The recoil is improved, but it feels a bit exaggerated when firing from the crouched position. Prone is just right and it feels right for standing, but crouched seems to almost have more recoil than standing, which doesn't really make sense.

Black Screen During Gameplay/ ARMA 2 OA
MavericK96 replied to nobullets's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Oddly enough, I never had this problem until OA came along. Anyway, I need more feedback and testing from others with this issue, but it seems like the new OA beta build 71952 might improve the issue, as I was able to get through Laser Show with no driver crash. Could just be a placebo or a coincidence, but if others could test and report back here and in the CIT that would be great. -
Black Screen During Gameplay/ ARMA 2 OA
MavericK96 replied to nobullets's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Latest beta patches here, though OA 1.52 from Steam does the same thing. I also have confirmed that this is not overclock/hardware related GPU-wise, as both overclock and stock speeds have the problem for me. I never had this issue prior to OA's release, so I'm not sure what is going on. -
New beta 71900 is up!(OA)
MavericK96 replied to pauliesss's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - BETA PATCH TESTING
I noticed something similar, in that there is this line of "blurriness" in front of you as you run, and textures come within the circle they become sharper. Also it seems like that weird ground parallax issue is present again in OA, but I'm not entirely sure. The ground appears to warp a whole lot, though.
