It's somewhere east of Australia, don't know if its the same as malden in OFP, probably not, just a fun fact

errr... I have both Tribes 2 and OFP Tribes 2 is a ENTIRELY different game.... Its like telling footballers they should go play tennis. I play tribes 2 if I want lots of fragging and I play OFP if i want some good ol tactical warfare
-
Making them destroyable wouldn't unbalance the game I think, it would simply make much more sense If you want to use them effectively hide them in bushes, under vehicles or behind houses or whatever. Everything in OFP can be destroyed!! vehicles, people, houses, trees, ammo crates... but satchels are invincible Its not that I don't like satchels, or I want to get rid of them or anything... its just that they are pretty silly the way they are now (Edited by Morchaoron at 5:46 pm on Nov. 24, 2001)

The only things that bothers me is that you can't shoot satchels, and satchels can't destroy each other... It could be done in other games I played, thats why I was rather suprised when I noticed they couldn't be destroyed. Now this has little to do with tactics itself, (it may CHANGE tactics) but i would would simply make more sense if you could shoot satchels Sarge: look rookie!! the flag!!! lets get it Rookie: WAIT SARGE!!! look!! theres a big bomb next to it!! Sarge: ahh... no problem... shoot it!! *rookie shoots the satchel with his M16* Rookie: Not even a scratch sarge Sarge: awwww no prob... I'll just use my LAW *sarge fires a law* Sarge: huh? what??? aww well looks like you have  going to be the bait rookie Ofcourse that example is stupid cuz is has no tactics etc, but... its the idea Thats my thought on it

Respawn camping = bad and spoils all fun Satcheling flags.... hmmm its by the rules... but i think it should be changed (not being able to satchel the area near the flag in a 50 meter radius or something like that) I mean come on.... 5 people hiding in bushes waiting to detonate their bombs at their flag is nonsense. Thats my opinion

CTF maps with powerful vehicles never seem to work, especially if there are any helis in the map, at the start of the mission players rush to the helis and fly to the enemy base and give it a massive mini-rockets spam and everything is gone  And since the vehicles dont respawn, the game is pretty much over if the distance you have to walk is more then 1 km. Even with shilkas and vulcans, those helis have insta kill long range rockets. Same for tanks, even if only one tank manages to get past the enemy defense then it can wreck the vehicles in their base. Maps such as the standard CTF map are pretty cool because the distances are relatively small and there are only a few APC's and jeeps so it doesn't matter much anyway. The answer would be to make it possible for vehicles to respawn after they are destroyed or if they are moved from the original location and no-one has used them anymore, after 5 minutes or so. Please consider this BIS. edit: and ofcourse, it is up to the mission creator whether he wants these vehicles in his mission to respawn or not (Edited by Morchaoron at 6:36 pm on Nov. 4, 2001)

Helicopter rush must be prevented! Helicopter rush = swarming to the helis and spam the entire enemy base before anything can get out... While this might be for for 1 minute, the other 29 minutes will be pure boredom, and I don't really see it as a tactic, and as you may have noticed, almost everyone leaves the game when that happens. And planes already have a usefull purpose, they are very fast and their missiles are also very powerful vs tanks and are easy to fly (once your in the sky its no problem ) I think thats a better purpose then taking out ANTI-AIR with an AIR vehicle However, the problem will remain, once a helicopter gets through the AA all vehicles will be lost. (Edited by Morchaoron at 10:22 pm on Nov. 6, 2001)

Another thing, I don't know if its already possible, but it would also be cool if it were possible that the teams and vehicles would reset once a flag has been captured, both teams would have limit recources each round (instead of each game) to capture the flag. Just an idea (and ofcourse, it would still be possible for players to respawn )
-
Not necessarily, it's the combination of both that makes OFP such a cool multiplayer game... its only that once the vehicles have been destroyed, it will become pretty boring if you will have to walk miles. Still, the option to make vehicles respawnable would be nice. And I've played lots of maps with helis, but only a few of them has shilkas or vulcans en even fewer have AA soldiers
-
Another solution to respawn camping: Make players respawn instantly but place the "respawn" a little farther away from the "flag base", they can respawn camp as much as they want but the players respawn in such a quick rate they wont even be able to reload (and this prevents the "death cam spying" And for the "safezones", its not a bad idea but most CTF maps don't have enough vehicles for 20 or 30 minutes, and after they are gone you will have to walk hours, thats why vehicle respawn would also be nice
-
Nope I still have that problem too.
-
No idea, I have a problem myself. I have WinXP and 2 NIC's (one for internet and one for LAN) If I turn off Internet sharing I can create a game but no-one on my LAN is able to join.
-
Yes but as I said before... its not only the helis also the tanks (but the helis are worst) SAM's are a good idea, helis are very powerful and the shilka or vulcan are easily destroyed by one of its homing missiles. And you don't need a good pilot to wipe out a team... A newbie pilot can wipe out the entire enemy + base Just point that crosshair at the ground and keep firing those FFAR But even if there were SAM's... once a base has been destroyed and you have to walk 2 or 3 km its really boring without any vehicles

Suggested additional info for Game in Progress screen
Morchaoron replied to johnnyjackal's topic in MULTIPLAYER
Yup I would love to see that. -
hmmm Counterstrike has alot of waiting too hanging in spectator mode half of the time is not my idea of playing a game, even if your good, those cheaters will get you anyway, even on those PB servers... BUT being able to play after an hour of searching/waiting is no fun either, and I hope BIS will find a way to reduce the waiting time. (by being able to see more info about a server like max time limit or kills or something like that)
-
I still hope they'll improve this games online multiplayer expierence... There are no other games yet that have a gameplay type like OFP has. Cheater-strike may be popular but its nothing more then a common first person shooter and any other 'commercial quake3 mods' (like wolf) in making do not seem to have much to do with war either (except for the weapon models and skins). If they could somehow imrpove this games online multiplayer expierence it would be one heck of a multiplayer game. (Edited by Morchaoron at 2:56 am on Oct. 28, 2001)

Joining during a battle #2 Â Â New idea (Please BIS reply!)
Morchaoron replied to SimteC's topic in MULTIPLAYER
I don't know... You may have noticed that a savegame is around 300kb And joining in progress means that the server will have to 'save' the game and send it to the joiner, which will take some time, and when he is finally finished dlling the file, it will be out of sync because it took some time to dl... I don't know that much about these kind of things... but it is true isn't it? -
Castle Wolfenstein is nothing more then a nice looking Quake 3 mod, and its gameplay is far different from OFP. Ever played the quake 3 mod 'Urban Terror'? Graphics are just as nice as Wolf and its much more fun IMO (--> IMO <---) www.urbanterror.net But they really need to improve OFP alot. I don't want wolf, medal of honor or whatever... I want OFP (btw: I know wolf is still a 'beta', 'demo', 'test' or whatever)
-
Good ideas... except for the 'admin a person'. Ever played Tribes 1? It had it too and 90% of the time there was being f**ked with because some kid joined the server before anyone was in there and voted himself admin. They removed that option a few months later But voting for all other things should be fine.

So joining during a battle can't be done, I can live with that. BUT it would be nice if you were somehow able to see more info about the map thats is currently on, like if there is a time or frag limit (and what the limit is and how many time has passed and frags have been made) And in co-op missions, how many people are still alive. This would make things much easier because you would atleast know how much longer you would have to wait before you can join. And if multiplayer will be less painfull, more people will play it, and then there will be more servers, and if there will be more servers, it will be easier to find a nice server that is about to start a new map (Edited by Morchaoron at 12:45 am on Oct. 22, 2001)
