    BI Games at the leading edge ?

    Interesting topic. I'm creating a campaign that is going to show the real horror of war. At the end I'd like to have a player who says "Dude, this whole thing sucks and was into it. What have I done? What asses I've been fighting for and against?". Basicly this comes in conflict with the "rules" you showed above. To be honest, I don't care. If people can't see the differences between a game and real life they should stay away from such things. Yeah right ... tell the poor bastards in Iraq, Afghanistan, Georgia, Chechnya, ... :( (continue the list on your own) But sure, blame the games not the people who are responsible for the real suffering.

    h-53e pack released

    I've noticed a serious bug with the MH-53 I'm using 1.04.60295 and I placed the MH-53 in the 2D editor. One of my clan members had the same issue lately on the 1.04 dedicated server while other players (including myself) had no problems. It's weird but maybe you should have a look into it again and release a fixed update.     Armed Civilians v1.02

    There aren't animations for that kind of action within the game and you can't simply use the male animations. :( I was very disappointed when I couldn't make a fun mission having heavy armed grannys.
  4. Sir, yes we can, Sir! :D I'm going to plan a story on Skira not envolving USMC, only Russia and China. The history of the island will be very like in one of the DR trailers. I liked the idea of going back to WW2 so I thought of this idea: - 1942 Japan conquers the russian island Kiska - 1944 China conquers Kiska during the second Sino-Japanese War - 1945 After World War II Japan loses the terrain in a treaty to China - 1945/1946 - Beginning of territorial conflicts between Russia and China around Kiska - 2012 Discovery of rich sources of minerals that a important for the tank production - 2012 China forces the remaining russian civilians to leave the island, however some russians remain to form up a small resistance force - 2012 Russia wants Kiska back and sends a fleet over there Don't know who'll win yet :)

    I have to correct myself :o It was my mistake. There was a wrong marker defined in the revive_init.sqf and the AAV was given no name. :o Everything works now.

  7. What the hell is "OFDP optimized terrain and grass"? You mean indestructible trees? :p Sahrani vegetation would fit for performance issues. However the Chernarus vegetation isn't a problem at least for me.

    @Space video: WOW ! :eek: Just image what be done this way ... the famous chase in the asteroid field of Episode 2 & 5. Or the battle above the death star (battle of yavin). My god ... I need to breathe again. However when using space maps there has to be a work around for ejecting vehicles and to simulate zero-g environment. I guess it's possible with some scripting work.

    Good news ... the documentation is translated, the latest versions are checked. Now all we need to do is a basic test of our revive feature and I need to have a look into the example missions. I hope nothing unexpected will happen such as finding new bugs :D By the way ... I'm gonna release finished missions with it starting with a small mission package. Further missions (up to 15 in total I guess) are on the way :) I'm sure they'll help as well. Maybe I can even lay hand on the Youtube tutorials this weekend but they're not critical right now.

    I used a Samsung Syncmaster 2693HM (26 inch) for a couple of months and ArmA II on it was great! Especially inside of choppers you'll get a new feeling. If I'll have to describe it I would say you feel a little bit more ingame than on smaller displays. Well, the 2693HM is lost because of a warranty issue. Now I preordered a Syncmaster 2770H (27 inch) display. I want this feeling back! And I can only recommend it! Just have a look how detailed ArmA II can be. The screenshot is from an older ArmA II version (Antialiasing wasn't included at the moment I took the screenshot). Of course there are always space issues on the table ... and those huge displays are really expensive. But well, almost every current game will get improvements with it and you'll have a lot of more space on your windows desktop :D Decide on you own :)

    What Vilas says makes sense, but I have full faith in Fromz and his team or whoever creates mod too that this mod will work at the end :) I know how hard Vilas' try may have been. It's the same story with faction classes, addon tags, RPT checking, etc. By the way, on which side will the addons be located at? East or Resistance? I'd like to create a campaign where Russia is in war with China so maybe you can create two different configs for the mod? Basicly it's just one value that would have to be changed.

    How big is the default Chenaurus map?

    Have a look at this video. Around the middle you can see ArmA II: Operation Arrowhead and the building of dynamic cities :) I guess they're created just like the compositions in ArmA II. They're working on it. However there is no proof yet it'll definetly make its way into OPA.

    Dragon Rising has been released

    @Luhgnut: I'm aware of this bug, but I didn't mean this :) Bugs usually don't leave up to 10 flame comments in a row :) However most users are reacting quickly and simply delete those comments. My videos are not affected as there aren't known so well. In restrospective I totally hate this flame war. I blame the german game magazines for it. Has anyone watched the critic podcasts after the ArmA II release? There wasn't a single positive feature mentioned. However they praised Dragon Rising like hell. The users splitted up and the hate began. They weren't competitors anymore, they were enemys from now on. As for me, I don't hate the DR community. In the german support forums there are some DR players I think, but they've never behaved unfriendly. But I hate Codemasters *lol* not only because of DR, and I simply don't like the way they made DR a simple shooter. Can't image how it'll be if Dragon Rising had been completed as just as promised. I guess it would have been a community boost for both games. Now most of the DR players split up to Call of Duty 6 or ArmA II. I can live with that. Maybe there're some talented modders out there.

    If someone shouts "ArmA is buggy", answer "So name me 20-30 bugs you've encountered last week" :) It's funny to see how people will argue afterwards. But I've noticed another strange thing in the last weeks. Seems like there are flashmobs on Youtube that rate ArmA II videos with 1 point to make the game look worse in the user's opinion. However I don't have any proof. Video uploaders should have an eye on their ratings.

    Any one know of a MP mission that has...

    First of all, our upcomming framework will work in SP and MP mode :) We're using it for months now including the testing sessions. This single feature (there are plenty more in it) will work the following way: 1. You place a new game module in the editor 2. Inside the init.sqf you'll insert a line that ensures everything of the framework gets loaded before other content of the init.sqf will be executed. 3. In the init-line of the module you can define all necessary variables and options. By default only units with a higher rank can recruit units with a lower rank. It simply wouldn't make sense if a private recruits a major for combat. First of all you can name the units that are allowed to recruit. I suggest that only group leader can do this. You can set up which side the player can recruit. Supported sides are west, east, resistance and civilian - it doesn't matter what faction is used. If you want, you can blacklist certain units that shouldn't be recruitable. But you don't have to name every unit that can be recruited in the first place. In theory it can be every infantry unit. As soon as you have recruited a soldier via action menu entry he joins your group. You can command it like any other AI unit. It should work with human players too although I haven't tested yet. Of course you can dismiss the unit at any place you want and re-recruit them later again. There'll be some helping videos on youtube after the release and after I got my new TFT :o I'm sure some of the other (optional) features will help you too in a way ... debugging stuff, marker scripts, first aid kits, revive features, easy briefing setup & task states, viewdistance & terrain grid changer, checkin scripts for vehicles, keycard simulator, group spawns etc. But it's a lot of hard work. That's why it's taking so long :)
  18. Ah, so you mean it :) CPU is ok. I own a GTX 275 and ArmA II runs perfect on it. However the best graphics cards on the market are the new Radeon 5850 and the Radeon 5870. Both offer more power than a GTX 285, but a have lower power input as I've read in test reviews. I think in December 09 there will be some new models of those graphics cards without the reference design having a quieter cooling. But I'm not quiet sure about those plans right now.
  19. Hiho, your specs look good although I would recommend buying a new graphics card for long time fun. ArmA II should run good on normal settings. It isn't always useful to have everything on high setting. The differences between normal and very high are hard to spot even in 1920x1200 resolution. But you should try it yourself. Download the demo first. After the latest patches the game runs definately better than at the time of demo release.

    Norrin, I'm sorry to say there is a problem with respawning on the USS Khe Sanh. Here's what I did: - taking the example of your example mission and fitting it into my mission (respawn works so far in local mp mode) - however I didn't use the USS Khe Sanh on Utes, but on a community island: using USS Khe Sanh by Myke - every time a player respawns on the LHD he stands on the deck for a few seconds, then falls through the deck into the water. Even if there would be some addon issues the player would have to be transported into the vehicle that had to be set up for the Khe Sanh respawn?! - the issue occured on the 1.04 windows dedicated server while playing with 6 players My people are taking a look into it. If they discover a solution for the problem (if there is) I'll post it here :)

    I haven't forgot you :) The framework is close to being finished. However there are some bugs to be killed before release. Hang on a few days, then you'll only need to set some variables and you'll be able to recruit anyone you wish (or blacklist specific units).

    Usually I'm satisfied with the Bohemia content so I'm relating to technical aspect I'd like to have in ArmA III - if it'll be created some day. - DX11 - Physx - 64 Bit - improved damage model - ingame script editor - a proper documentation of every new feature right after the release + basic example missions - netcode improvements - further improvements of AI behaviour, especially the AI on player's side! - maybe an ingame island editor that can be used as easy as the mission editor? (enter some settings for the island, generating terrain, placing objects and roads like in the mission editor) - I don't know if it's even possible to create, I'm a n00b :)

    Dragon Rising has been released

    That's .... impressive :D Yesterday I watched the GC 08 videos of Dragon Rising again. Hell, that was really good footage. I understand that a lot of people got horny by those videos. But looking at the final product is a pain. It really hurts to see the name "Operation Flashpoint" is involved into this mess. They've should have called it Operation Dragon Rising and nobody in this forum would complain about it. Unsatisfied Dragon Rising players should wait a little bit. With the upcomming Skira Island and the PLA Mod for ArmA II there'll be a lot of good missions very soon. As for me I'm gonna create my own version of the Dragon Rising conflict next year ;)
