I can select 16384 for both OFP and CWA. This laptop only has an integrated graphics chip and I'm pretty sure that putting it through the agony of working with such large textures would be considered torture.

I've been told this by students in game design who were told this by their professors and it makes perfect sense to me as I've never noticed the difference either. Going above 2048 is virtually useless with the current hardware for most purposes. What is a typical resolution today? 1920x1080 or slightly above that for those who have more expensive screens? That means that only 1920 pixels horizontally and 1080 pixels vertically are being displayed at any one time. If you've got a 4096x4096 texture for example and you've fit the entire side of a tank on a texture that runs from the left side of the texture to the end of the texture on the right than that means around 4000 pixels. But since your screen can only display 1920 pixels width that means that the textures is only going to be displayed at 50% of it's true size. Unless you've got a 4K screen you'd never notice the difference because really you can make a 2048 texture really detailed and you would never notice the drop from 4096 to 2048 in any game, and CWA is no exception. It just means a higher strain on the system for no visible improvement. If I had a really large object that I needed to texture I would prefer two 2048X2048 textures to one 4096 texture. Going up one "notch" means increasing the size of the texture (and file) by a factor 4.

After playing with it for a few minutes now I must say that the world looks more vivid, but it isn't overdone so that the islands lose their bleak and depressing looks that made OFP appeal to me. Well done :) Haven't yet tested it with the DXDLL effects enabled though ...

Based on the circumstances I would say that it was a technical issue since the FTP was first not working properly and then stopped working altogether. If they had wanted to get paid they would have just shut it down by refusing connections and displaying a message to the owner every time a file was being accessed.
-
Yay the FTP is back online!

Only jerryhopper can answer that. Cervo said years ago when at peak activity that the cost was roughly €50 a month for the site + FTP. I imagine with the reduced load on the FTP and availability of hosts it might be a bit cheaper now.

Well we are now either making progress or going completely down the drain ... Hopefully they've noticed from the lack of traffic that there is something wrong and have looked into it. The server is not responding at all anymore rather than timing out or refusing to list the directory like it did before. In the best possible case they are restarting it or finishing maintenance ... I've PM'ed jerryhopper. He hasn't been on the forums for a while though. If any of you has Twitter, Facebook or Google+ could you please send a message to him to let him know? http://forums.bistudio.com/member.php?5238-jerryhopper

As you may have noticed the file server is down again. We'll see if and when it gets back up again. There is a backup of the files on the server of a squad and I was making a backup to an external drive yesterday and found out that it's offline when I wanted to continue today. When the server is online again that will be continued. A torrent sounds like a nice idea and I'll look at how to set one up when I have completed my backup.

3DS MAX uses it's own gamma settings. I tweaked the colors/brigthness of the Walther in OFP and the AA-12 in CWA so that might have something to do with it. Also I check both on the laptop's own screen and on the screen I have connected to it, but I think I forgot to do that with the AA-12. The laptop itself uses the factory default settings for gamma and brightness. When I bought it I looked at adjusting it, but it was already set correctly. The external screen was adjusted as it was too light. I feel that it is important to put more thought into this addon as usual as I am not merely replicating an existing weapon but partially designing it as well and since I like to stick to realism as close as I can I need to consider some aspects that would negatively affect gameplay. Not sure if you do, but I distinctly remember many .50 calibre sniper rifles being very hard to use since you couldn't see where your shot ended up as the muzzle would lift roughly 45 degrees and you end up admiring the sky textures. (In reality that's not really accurate since much of the recoil would go into the shoulder but since that isn't simulated this was a trade-off to prevent such weapons from becoming an uber weapon). Which brings me to the main concern: Recoil. The shortest versions would kick like a mule and would be as awkward to fire as a Desert Eagle (and no serious operator uses those) if not worse. I want to get it as close to reality as possible so it is something that I take into consideration. I've got two files documenting the design ideas and considerations that I'll post when I get back.

I haven't done much work on any project as I couldn't find the motivation for several reasons, one of which is that I am having doubts about the entire Mk.5 concept. The first problem being the calibre and secondly (and related) the dimensions of the frame and it's impact on the user. Originally the M5 concept from ITM that I used as a base was chambered in 7,62x51 and 7,62x39. Using such powerful rounds would cause a lot of problems in controlling the weapon in the case of the longest version and make it exceedingly difficult to fire and prone to malfunctioning in all of the other (shorter) versions. That has to be the main reason why it never went into production and no one that I'm aware of has seriously looked into it again. HK and FN both see 17" barrels as the ideal length for a 7,62x51 rifle. Anything half that length and (considerably) less just wouldn't be usable in any real world situation. So I've thought of alternatives: - 1. Scrap the entire project. This thought has crossed my mind many times and still sounds very tempting not despite but because of all the time I've put into it. - 2. Scrap all of the short versions. This would essentially make it useless since there are other DMR rifles on the market that offer superior performance; - 3. Rechamber to 7,62x35 (.300 AAC Blackout). It uses the same internal components except for the barrel as 5,56x45 as well as magazines and so would be compatible with M16, XM and G36 magazines (+ imaginary upper receiver swap ;)). It introduces a (relatively rare but in use with USSOCOM) calibre that the original game doesn't have and compatibility with FAL, G3, AK47 and CZ magazines would be lost, suppressed magazines compatible with suppressed weapons only and not regular magazines as that would just look weird (loud guns with suppressors and vice versa) or the gameplay advantages would outweigh the realism aspect ... ? http://ofp.gamepark.cz/_hosted/digitalwarfarestudios/jdb/M68CCO_WIP.jpg

It's still showing other people's IP without their permission (or sharing the income with them) and therefore not legal no matter how much you edit it. -

Another armed robbery gone bad. Luckily these criminals never target pro-government politicians and journalists

Not really, he seems drunk and uncooperative. People that are drunk, drugged, sleep deprived, barely conscious and other states where they can't focus properly it sometimes helps to assert a limited amount of pain to (temporarily) get them back to reality. The main problem here is that for a good 100+ years we haven't been used to actual violence and street brawls are talked about in the (social) media like it was a medieval battle rather than the few ineffective punches/kicks that it really amounted to. The same thing happens here. The guy isn't paying attention so he gets slapped which according to the people yelling in the background is somehow seen as the modern day equivalent to being bayonetted (those people clearly aren't used to actual violence). There's a rock solid belief among the liberals and the political left that everything can be solved by endlessly talking to people that aren't capable of comprehending what is going on. Just shows their disconnection from what the job of law enforcement and other first responders is really like. If you listen to what the officer is saying and act accordingly you likely won't get slapped (in the case of the US: when you're black that might not apply). The world can be so simple when you aren't looking for a conspiracy behind every tree. It has nothing to do with a police state, but with the average citizen being higher educated, more vocal/independent and thinking that they need to voice their opinion at every possible moment than people were a hundred years ago. The violence used by the police has softened considerably since than but the respect for the officers and the way they are treated by the public has also gone down a lot. My dad told me plenty of stories about when he was young and the police would hit people with their clubs a few times at the slightest hint of committing even the slightest offense before even thinking about arresting them. That was the same time when teachers would whack students on the fingers a ruler when they couldn't be bothered to pay attention. They sure as hell respected those officers (and teachers) more than the softies that walk the streets today bound by endless protocols and legal departments breathing down their necks and the amount of complaints were negligible. People expect officers to keep talking no matter how they are confronted because that is what society expects from a human being, to be non-violent at all times. Today people are being prosecuted simply because they punch someone (often just once) that is asking for it through their behaviour. The public perception of what constitutes actual violence has gone completely over the top leading to overloaded legal systems and wasted funds. Today many people think like we can do it all when we want to and there is nothing to stop us. Think again.

No offense but maybe you should do some searching of your own instead of having other people do it for you? All of those addons are easy to find.

MailOnline rage about Waffen-SS, NKVD, Al-Qaeda and Taliban supporters recruiting in OFP since 2001 in 3, 2, 1 ... None of these British rags are worth the paper they are printed on, even more so for the CO2 released into the atmosphere to host their websites where the journalistic principles of fact-finding and speaking to both sides are completely abandoned in their rancid quest for page views (read: ad sales). Freedom of press shouldn't be unlimited, purposely lying rags like this should be banned for their distortion of reality to the masses. They are no better than the ISIS PR machine.

Lol, except for the e-mail address I used (which is Gmail anyway) I made up everything else.

Actually holding your breath shouldn't require that much effort to implement if they wanted *cough* hint :o

It would be great if the MP problems were smoothed out so that there wouldn't be a divide between people sticking to OFP and those that have switched over to CWA (and some new players because of the game having been free on Steam) and some problems related to modern hardware were addressed like the aspect ratio and the amount of memory used in general and the sliders in the Perfomance tab especially.

BIS does not have any control over BattleEye bans. Your only hope is to get BattleEye to look into this situation.

Is it just me or have avatars been disabled? I can't see any avatars anymore except the BIS and moderator ones and the option to choose one seems to be gone ...

Maybe they will use the biological contraptions of the middle ages: serfs :p

You could make a trigger with a size of 50. The Ai can't see you if you there is an object between you and the unit.
