Chain of Command Unified Artillery 1.1

Hey there These babies are an absolute beauty. Thank you very very much. Here is a list of a few other bugs I found in east artillery: <ul> [*] Well, you've replied to this issue about the M55s as I was typing, so I'll just elaborate on this a little more... You can't go the quick and dirty way with those either: once you've received the MTO, you get the "Rounds complete" message, and then the "SHOT" message (! ) without them buggers having fired a single round. [*] The error message when you select I/A (reported by Gunterlund) only appears when using M46s, not 2S19s. <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">_text = (_This select 0) select (_this select 1) |#| error divisorI found this line appears in \CoC_FED\scripts\DlgCtrlSet.sqf, but I couldn't close in on the issue any further, and it might be something else... [*] this is something I experienced a long time ago, but as you're considering a new patch, I seize the opportunity to report it: I happen to use your DigiLink console in my MP missions, and players receiving messages get an error. It seems the bug is in \coc_ns\Network\fNRemoteCallR.sqf, and the fix I found is to replace : <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">call(call(_t select 1))by a mere<table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">call(_t select 1) which works like a charm.

    WGL Missions of the Month

Two other very interesting themes this month, I should submit something again... On a side note, I'd be interested in giving/receiving some feedback, but I can't find a useable feedback thread on your forums. I've got to be missing something again, can you sort me out ?

    WGL Missions of the Month

Here we go ! I've uploaded a mission on your site. It shouldn't be faulty *crosses fingers*, and I had a lot of fun designing it. Gimme gimme more scenarios like this !

    WGL Missions of the Month

Just want to re-express my humble but strong support to this initiative, and also briefly explain why I didn't submit anything whereas I implied in a previous post I would. When I first saw the thread I was already deep in a series of MP missions using Unified Artillery and WGL5. I now have nine of them ready, but they don't exactly fit in with this month's scenarios (regardless of the fact I'm not much into armored stuff, but that is another story). Now, I really find this idea of short missions excellent, and as soon as I have made the last mission of my "campaign", I'll definitely give a go at this. Now, here's my 2 pence as to why there were so few submissions. The Architect's reaction ("Takes longer than a month to make a good mission. ") is typical of the true, dedicated, hard-core mission-designer, whose reward for hard-work is still smaller than that of the add-on maker : after all, many people often think, if unconsciously, that they, too, if they had wanted, could have made such a good mission. Addons are more easily awe-inspiring. Now, your idea is half-way between committed mission-designing, mostly made up of hardcore, talented people like the Architect, and cheap tweaking with the editor. It doesn't look like it, but the simplicity you rightfully advocate requires sacrifice from über-scripters on the one hand - because they have to forfeit the opportunity to show off their skills and give life to their wildest ideas -, and some sort of skill and knowledge from the editor-tweaking beginners on the other. Now, I'm sorry to hear you had no submissions, especially as WGL5 is... well... so top-notch, so I won't let yet another excellent initiative related to mission-making go down the drain like I did in the past... I'll get back to you P.S.: as Q said, a lot of squads now use wgl5... now what missions do they play ? And how about creating a pool of those squad-missions ?

    The Middle East part 2

I hope I'm not the only one on these forums to find martinovic's previous post an unacceptable insult to reason and knowledge, to the Jews and their ordeal throughout history, and to the French resistants, whose humanist values - for most - had nothing to do with Hamas' proselytising ways, and whose fight wasn't to annihilate a democracy acknowledged by the U.N.

    The Middle East part 2

I fail to see how this hackneyed quotation applies to my post. To say "What, then, should the West, what should Israel do ? Stand their ground, and protect justice and human rights" is hardly an advocation of inaction. Now, I also fail to see how this sentence could apply to our here subject, or to any subject at all. <ul> [*] First off, it's perfectly reversible. I take it you meant that the good men are the Israelis, but a deported Palestinian whose children have been killed could well use that to justify his taking arms. You know, the "never again" cause. First issue, then, what is a "good man" ? [*] The implicature that actions by "good men" necessarily lead to beating evil is highly dubious : for all the bombings and killings, Gilad Shalit hasn't returned yet. And the loop has been going on for 60 years now. [*] Inaction could even have been profitable in this situation : what if Israel hadn't moved an inch after the abduction ? There'd have been so many people's lives spared, and the terrorists wouldn't be rejoicing at the influx of militants knocking at their doors. Now rather than quoting without a context and letting someone else think for you - albeit an 18th century philosopher - ask yourself : how much evil has been done by people who thought they were doing something good ? What rules of life, other than that of caution and patience, can a "good man" adopt for himself once he has discovered that intentions and actions are disconnected ? That he can't control the consequences of his own actions ? I just so much wish Israel fought her war with more dignity - as I expect way more from her and her people than from the other side .

    The Middle East part 2

People don't need religions to find excuses to hate one another. If it ain't your God, it'll be your skin, the colour of your eyes, the way you sneeze and what not. Now, religions too often meddle in politics, instead of dealing with what they're supposed to deal with, spiritual life. Still, I don't know what's more foolish, to kill in the name of a god who you claim said : or to claim that these murderers do so because they're believers. As to Israel, it is an explosive gumbo of everything likely to trigger hate : territory, ethnicity, religion, demography... But to believe that terrorism can be beaten someday is -IMHO- both delusory and counter-productive. Delusory, because it's the cheap weapon of the weak and the hopeless, and as such, it can't be beaten into oblivion. It's also the cheap weapon of the defeated. Come on, let's face it, it's not a crowd of RPG-toting teenagers in rags who will wipe out Israel, just like it's not a couple of arrogant bearded perverts preaching BS that are going to annihilate the West. Terrorism is merely a twisted form of surrendering, and if it thrives today in Israel, that's because the countries that support it know they couldn't stand a chance in a more conventional war. Now to fail to acknowledge that is obviously counter-productive too : in the name of fighting against terror, civilians get killed ; civilians get abducted and imprisoned for years without a trial. In the name of fighting against terror, everything it took centuries for the West to build - justice, individual liberties, democracy - is going down the drain. What, then, should the West, what should Israel do ? Stand their ground, and protect justice and human rights, regardless of what the enemy does. Then people of good will would have no trouble seeing who they should side with.

why did you use your username

I wanted a real sounding name for more immersion when playing. But the cheap uncritical bias (just like all cheap uncritical biases ! ), IRL and in OFP, in favour of the Americans, as well as the not less uncommon confusion between Soviets and Russians, bore me to death. Moreover, I spent my childhood and most of my teenage years reading Russian novels, and I am convinced that Dostoevski and Tolstoi are two of the greatest minds ever given birth to, so I sort of came up with this nick as a twisted tribute to genius and days gone by. So here I am, a Frenchie with a fake Russian name, playing a Czech game in English with mates from all over the world. Willkommen zum OFP !
  11. Hey there The Chain Of Command forums not being very active these days, I thought I could gather more attention for my issue here. Sincere apologies if that was the bad choice. I'm having troubles getting my enemy AI CoC howitzers shoot at high angle. Here's what I have : <ul>[*] 8 Ruskies (c_0, c_n, ..., c_7) in their Howitzers ; [*] a radio trigger (for testing purposes) with the following entry in the activation field : <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">[c_0,[getpos t], 2, 0, 0, true] call CoCfIFCallFire [*] a loon called t, my target, located 3.2 kms south of the Howitzers. Now, I have no problem getting the howitzers to shoot their two rounds on target. It's just that I want them to do it at high-angle, which the last parameter in the code, "true", should have made them do. I have even tried to "hack" the variable CoCIFA%1ha by setting it to 1, to no avail. I need to go the "quick and dirty" way with CoCfIFCallFire on this one, but I also need High-Angle Fire. Can anyone point me out in the right direction ? Thanks in advance, Igor.

The Forest, BIS and WGL 5.0

This mission is a J E W E L. Even if, like me, you're not much into the magic and zombie side of OFP, it is well worth playing this one. It's got everything the most demanding players look for : <ul>[*] a plot [*] immersion [*] atmosphere [*] action [*] professional cutscenes, including intro and outro (and you don't want to skip those, man) [*] well-balanced difficulty. On top of that, it's a real demo of scripting skills, serving the greater interest of the mission, not aiming at dazzling you with the author's genius - even though they wind up doing just that. All in all, one of the best missions I have ever played in OFP, if not the best. How fantastic to see yet another piece of work pushing the OFP envelope to reaches that seemed unthinkable. Top notch work, congratulations buddy !

    Music Recommendations

I was 18 when Pearl Jam released their debut album, Ten. I got hooked immediately, and was - am - a sucker for grunge music to a nearly pathologic extent (I was among the distressed teenagers in their pyjamas when KC died). BadMotorFinger by SoundGarden still remains a major, cutting-edge album for me to this day, and so does the dark, harmonically twisted album Dirt, by Alice In Chains. I discovered both albums at the end of 1992, and still listen to them on a regular basis. But Cameron's fantastic drumming (I remember how abashed I was at the sound of the snare drum...) got outshined in summer 1993 when I discovered Tool and Dani Carey. I saw Tool live first on September 11th, 1993 in Paris. They were playing as the opening band for Rage Against The Machine. I have never fully recovered from that encounter with Tool, and I saw them again live for the seventh time two weeks ago in Paris. And this is what thirteen years of faithful devotion were awarded with : Dani Carey's drum skin, signed and dated, which I managed to catch in the middle of the 5000+ crowd. And peacefully, I have to add. I'd have lots of other stuff to recommend too (HELMET !, but these bands, especially Tool and A.I.C., have been accompanying me for such a long time I feel they now are a part of me.

    WGL Missions of the Month

Being working on a mini coop MP campaign using WGL5 and Chain Of Command's Unified Artillery (5 missions out of 8/9 ready so far), I'm highly interested in this initiative, but I can't seem to register to the forums. Is there an unusual delay to the reception of the confirmation e-mail ? My username would be the same as here. Thanks !

Football World Cup 2006 in Germany

Thank God the brainless waving of nationalistic flags is drawing to a close... There was probably as little, if not less, fair-play on these forums, as in the WC... Anyway, congratulations to Italy, and especially to Cannavaro and Buffon, arguably the best players of the competition. Hats off to les Bleus too : they can be proud, they're leaving Germany undefeated. How ironic it is that Zidane's unacceptable gesture was noticed, not by any of the three refs on the field, but by the fourth one on his TV... Could that be the sign of a move towards the much-needed reform in refereeing ? After all, the refereeing in this final was as flawless as it could get (regardless of the second penalty France deserved, but heh ! that's fate, that's life...), but still not as perfect as it ought to be... I love this game, and I'd like to react to people that say that the show in this WC wasn't good, or that the final was boring, or that defensive teams kill football. I'm afraid this approach to football reeks of consumerism. Go down that road, and for the sake of a good show, we'll wind up enlarging nets and scrapping offside rules as suggested here ; we've already gone too far down that road, as players are just plainly exhausted in spite of them being doped to their nails. I recommend we be more responsible : yesterday's final was boring ? I thought it a tremendous battle of tired fighters under the most demanding pressure. And as in great battles, it's the weight of a blade of grass that tipped the balance on one side. Defensive teams kill football ? Defensive playing makes the most of what football has to offer in terms of tactics ; besides, as Chris Death has argued before, it's about winning, not putting up a good show. I found it beautiful to see Italy defend and attack as one, especially in the semis against Germany. All in all, football is one of the sports that raises the most passions. I really think we yield to the dark side of those passions too much, to the expense of what makes it - should make it - marvellous : tactics, agility, fluidity, suspense... and fair-play, from players and supporters alike.

Football World Cup 2006 in Germany

If anyone still doubts that footballers aren't, have never been, and will never be role-models, but just human beings eager to break the rules like the rest of us, here is this exclusive pic of the French team's secret training and diet : Don't ask me where or when this was shot, a friend of mine sent it to me this afternoon. Allez les Bleus !

increase the terrain detail in MP?

AFAIK : Mission designers can set the terrain resolution by using the "SetTerrainGrid" command. Check the OffComRef, but the lower the figure, the higher the resolution. This works on servers, but it is recommended to lower the view distance accordingly.

    Mapfact's Respawn v3.0

    Bug found : the line <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">MAP_respMedics = ["Soldier_WMedic"]; should be replaced by : <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">MAP_respMedics = ["SoldierWMedic"]; In the MAP_respawn\MAP_respawnOptions.sqs of the template mission.

    Mapfact's Respawn v3.0

Hey raedor I'm really speaking about the template mission : so yes, the soldier is a "Soldier_WMedic". Besides, I did test it with other human players, and at home on my LAN network : both soldiers were therefore human, but still no respawn when the medic options are chosen. So there's something else... Thanks for support, Igor.

    Mapfact's Respawn v3.0

Hey there ! First of, thank you for this exceptional and cunning set of scripts. It is really a must-have, and coops are way more intense and immersive with it. I have a problem, though, when selecting the medic and medic autoheal options in the MP set up. Even in the template mission, if I play the officer and kill myself with a grenade, and even though there's a medic available, I just won't respawn. I have spent the past four hours looking into the architecture of the scripts, and have come up with a fair assumption, and possible fix. But before posting it and in order not to confuse anyone (and me in the first place...), I'd first want to check that I'm not overlooking something major as I seem to be the only one to have experienced this issue. Thanks in advance, Igor.

    DMA TOYOTA WARS

This mod is absolutely fantastic. Everything you DMA guys have made so far kicks major *ss and changes the entire OFP experience. A zillion thanks ! <s> For peeps confused, here are links to the Bin and Dta folders to be put in the @ECP directory if you want to use the various DMA mods : All these configs will enable you to lean, if you have the DMA_lean.pbo and dmapistolean.pbo in one Addons folder ; if you want to use the entire set of DMA animations, add your anim.pbo into the Dta folders of the packs above. So basically : back up your original @ECP Bin and Dta folders. Copy and paste the ones above into your @ECP folders. Play. Hope this helps !</s> [EDIT]Links removed not to add to general confusion. My apologies to DMA, just wanted to help, but this may have been counter-productive. Take care.

    Be a hero...

The problem comes from the fact that the command MoveInCargo will only work if issued by the computer which the unit is local to. Most units (as opposed to empty vehicles and objects) are local to the server only, except if they are spawned by a client, in which case they are local to that computer. Therefore, the only solution that I can think of is a trigger, activated by a variable made public by the script, with the following line in its activation field : <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">TEN_rescuee moveInCargo TEN_MAGICVEHICLE;TEN_var=false;publicVariable {TEN_var} Your script would then look like this : <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE"> _Injured=_This Select 0 _DragBy=_this select 1 TEN_RESCUER = _DragBy TEN_RESCUEE = _Injured publicvariable "TEN_RESCUER" publicvariable "TEN_RESCUEE" ~0.1 _dragvehicle = "TEN_DragVeh" createVehicle getPos _Injured TEN_MAGICVEHICLE = _dragvehicle publicvariable "TEN_MAGICVEHICLE" TEN_var=true publicVariable {TEN_var} _DragBy assignAsDriver _dragvehicle _DragBy moveInDriver _dragvehicle #check ~1 ? count crew vehicle _dragvehicle == 1 : goto "eject" ? count crew vehicle _dragvehicle >= 2 : goto "check" #eject ~1 _Injured action ["eject", vehicle _Injured] _DragBy action ["eject", vehicle _DragBy] deleteVehicle _dragvehicle exit This works, I have tested it, using a jeep as vehicle. I understand that this is rather troublesome to ask mission-designers to add a trigger to have the anim and action work properly in MP, but that's nothing compared to the utter coolness of your concept. Or someone might just come up with a simpler working solution .
