  1. Models: BI Studio Textures: BI Studio Texture Modifications: Geordie Signed/key: Yes Due to BI Studios announcing the UK Armed Forces DLC, I have decided to get these out without further delay. Just a few quick Texture modifications to the BI stock textures to change these helicopters into RAF and AAC models. No lumps and bumps are present that distinguish the actual helicopters apart from the US versions. Faction: UK Armed Forces Class: Joint Helicopter Command Unit: Apache AH.1 / Chinook HC.2 Notes: There are issues with the Hellfire missiles; they have a ghost effect when viewing from below. This anomaly is present in game without any mods; other people have also reported this issue with stock A2OA. Enjoy. Thanks to: BI Studio, UGAF, RKSL Rock, BI Forums and Armaholic. DOWNLOAD @ UGAF or DOWNLOAD @ ARMAHOLIC
  2. >>>> Click images for full size <<<< My first effort, not much but something other than the default skins....enjoy. Releasing as soon as I can figure out why the Hellfires look transparent (white-ish glow) from the underside veiw...any ideas? [EDIT: screens]
  3. I was just thinking about what the perfect Visitor would be. - 3D real time terrain editing similar to L3DT, with terrain tools (brushes) - Layered (stage) system similar to L3DT, handy for creating satmap & terrain mask, water table etc. - Single click 'change the season' render button, with paths to custom texture files. (winterize the map instantly?) - Texture editing functions, basic sizing and basic image manipulation, in separate window - Object veiwer for checking out P3D's, list all P3D's and select to view in seperate window. - Ability to import more than 10 objects at a time (an entire CA folder would be ideal.) - Create a variable ramdisk on program start, so you can go in and add/remove things??? Maybe visitor could monitor the ramdisk for any changes and update in real time? Just some thoughts.

    The ultimate Visitor?

I switch from L3DT to visitor, back to L3DT to fine tune, It can be a pain sometimes. It would be nice to place rail/road objects and then use an 'embankment' brush to raise the the objects evenly on both sides, or lower them with a 'revetment' brush, even at angles. You could even have a 'trench' brush or 'eroded river' brush, even a 'cliff' brush too (like L3DT) Better yet, have the objects themselves able to manipulate the terrain, Drop a peice of road and lower or raise it, the terrain does exactly what the road is telling it to do, The road does what you tell it to do, if that makes sense (layers of code?) Anyone ever seen softwre do anyhting like that?

Sounds good, handy for those sessions in map making when your fingers turn bloody from bashing the keyboard, when all you have left is a comfy sofa, sane voice and a cup of coffee. Lovely.

    The ultimate Visitor?

But Visitor can't run the functions I mentioned from within the program, they are all external programs with thier own memory space and scratch allocation, more importantly their own commerce and licensing not benefiting BI. It would be ideal to have all them functions available in one program would it not? My 'hint' was that Visitor could be expanded (for profit) outside the ArmA universe, Imagine how many clients would seek such features! (us too ;)) regardless, It's fun to chuck stuff up in the air. @beton....USB.....LOL Even the most uber package would still have folks scratching their heads, everyone would still be here, hehe

    maps under construction:

You little beauty!!!!! Nice clever info there, and will undoubtedly save me some time. I assume that you dont have to load 10 objects at a time in V3 and also, does this get you a working config.cpp? by deleting town names, Airports etc will it remove them from imported config? Good stuff:)
  8. I'm going to agree with the comments on how much negativity is floating around, It's not very nice. PR could have easily just kept the news updates/discussions to their own forums, so as far as gestures go, I rekon PR team are being polite. On a personal note, Having been a long time player of PR:BF2 (0.3-0.95), I have seen it flourish, push and expand the limits of the BF engine to the point its not even BF2 anymore. They Support the fanbase with a healthy update schedule, produce quality material (limited by the BF engine) and most importantly deliver PvP in an almost single click solution, from download, install to getting in the game. Now to me personally that's very important to maintain fanbase for game modifications. Less fidgeting and more empty magazimes! I could be wrong, but I think the amout of regular players online speaks rightously. Tonight (weeknight) the top 20 servers were at 35to64/64 players PvP (the top 9 were maxxed out), Not bad at all. If the PR team deliver PR:ArmA in the same fashion as PR:BF2 (which I'm sure they will) Were gonna see some busy ArmA 2 PvP servers...for quite some time! And for that reason PR Team, You got my vote, best of luck. Roll on mass PvP
  9. IIRC this guy has something in a museum, I had a copy of FineScale Modeller years ago that had it in as a feature and mentioned a museum, lucky guy to have seen it up close. He got a tour of the ship for reference material, Hence why JDog should try and contact him...you never know he might share some of it ;-) Any new eye candy to share JDog?
  10. Looking forward to the update, I've seen a peek at two items on another site, but i'll not spoil the surprise ;-)

    ZGM Mapmaking Tutorial

    Nice work, many thanks!
  14. I know there is a tool included in VBS2 http://developer.vbs2.com/onlinehelp/Content/Terrain_Manual/TM_Create_a_Map_Configuration.htm Is there any sort of tool available in the community to create configs for maps. Would make life so much easier. PS - I've already in the past offered BIS money for this tool and got offered VBS2 :o:
  15. 2.5m resulted in terrible performance and lag on Khark10km island for me. Detail was nice though. 5m resolution is possible to make aircraft revetments in L3DT!!!
  16. There is a command line to copy all your config.cpp files into your working folder, cant remember it off hand. sorry. EDIT: Check Here - http://forums.bistudio.com/showpost.php?p=1570621&postcount=2

If they sold standalone V4 for $100/license, I would glady buy it. Just for the record.

    Winter terrain mapping

Cheers for the info fellas. I'm not sure I would attempt winter maps alone, too many variables to get right. Community Winter Resource Project? Textures possibly being an easier part, getting snow depth and foilage to look right might be a pain (plants barely showing through deep snow, vehicle tracks in deep snow), Maybe some seriously heavy bump mapping? I was also thinking about atmospheric audio, that would require some heavy duty work. Everything from vehicles to ambient sounds would be different to whats already in game. (driving on snow and ice etc) Then theres the weather, snow squalls & realistic icing? It is tantalising to think about regardless.
  20. I know I'm looking forward to some PR PvP, I seen the 'Beta' server listed and gazed with envious eyes.....Can't wait for first release Force.
  21. Not as of yet. looks interesting tho
  22. Hey JDog, very nice work indeed on the carriers. Thought you might like this info on a 1/72nd scale scratchbuilt model CVN. It could help you with some detailing, maybe try and contact the builder via the forums for some extra input or sources. ***WARNING - YET MORE JAW DROPPING TIME*** http://www.carrierbuilders.net/gallery/20070318_USS_Enterprise_1-72/20070318_USS_Enterprise_1-72.htm The whole site has many carrier/naval avaition projects that you and maybe others could use for sources. http://www.carrierbuilders.net/ A vernia, calculator and a plastic model kit by the old monitor....tasty Hope this helps, Keep up the good work. EDIT: Tell me I'm not wrong here....If anyone was building that thing, they wouldn't have a couple of take off and landings like a kid, lol
  23. *** Images corrected *** Method to convert all OA P3D ODOL's in a few clicks. Tested and working in V3. Tools: Install UltraEdit, Get it here. The best text editing suite IMO, A worthy investment. You can complete this method with the trail. 1. Extract all your OA PBO's to P:\CA 2. Run UltraEdit, Then goto Search>Replace in files as in the screenshot below: 3. Expand the advanced button and complete the criteria like the screenshot below, Click 'Replace in files' to start the process: 4. The dialogue will close and the progress of the action will be shown in the bottom left of the UltraEdit program window. Grab a coffee and when you get back all your P3D's will be ODOL0. 5. Extract all your ArmA 2 (Non-OA) PBO's to C:\PA, Done. Hope this helps.

    maps under construction:

[Continued....5 screenshot limit reset] The next map is older than the above, and also still not finished (cough cough) Khark Island 10km is an island off the coast of Iran, a bit of everything in it. WIP Screenies: Below is an early test run in L3DT, This was before I found out how to work with DEM data, It was built using an imported PNG of the island outline. Load of fun. (and not very accurate) Khark and Aden (post above) are being made with PvP in mind, Amphibious attackers and land based defense, Trying to focus on future hot spots. I've read all about the UK's Aden campaign and thought...'Hey modern day Aden'. Imagine how hard I laughed when Yemen tips up the news! Looks like someone might invade that place sometime soon after all eh! Khark island is the only 'strategic target' island with an Airport I could find in Iran, lots of oil to be 'Defended' One day Ill get em both finished LOL
