ArmA 2 50% off this weekend on Steam.

I so freakishly happy that my Visa card arrived yesterday, since my PayPal account is drained and I never would of had time to top it up to take advantage of this deal otherwise

    How old are Arma2 Players?

21 right now, 22 in about two weeks
  3. ooh, sounds very interested. especially the PEQ/Flashlight part. I guess BI don't want to be any worse than Codemaster now that we know they have it in OFPDR ;) Good to hear there will probably be a Gold Edition as well. that's what I'll be buying, since I haven't gotten around to buying A2 just yet, and with the announcement of OA I feel like I might as well wait for this, and hopefully another A2 patch will be out by then
  4. aah, I was so close to finally buying Arma 2 now I feel that I might as well wait for some kind of Gold Edition with both A2 and OA
  5. Steam as a distribution platform is awesome, but the pricing model for Europe is the worst I have ever seen. Let's take Arma 2 as an example Sweden store price = 329SEK = $41 = €29 Steam price = €48 = $66 = 530SEK so the game is much more expensive than in stores. the fact that I don't need the disc hardly makes up for the big difference. and it's not like I can't afford to pay €48, but if I buy these ridiculously priced games on Steam, I just enable the publishers. they see that they can still sell overpriced games, and they will never adjust the price to more normal levels. something else about Steam. EU laws clearly state that a citizen of EU country A (Sweden) should be able to buy from the store of any other EU Country (say the UK). but Steam users can't buy games from the UK stores, which have lower prices than the rest of Europe. so they are in fact breaking EU laws, but no one seems to care about it.
  6. seriosuly, game is still out of stock all over Sweden did it sell far above expectations, or did 505 just forget about sending the discs to Scandinavia?
  7. They make good points. I probably would give it slightly higher overall score
  8. ARMA 2 got 83% score from PC Gamer Sweden (and I think PCG UK since they used the same text (translated). Pros: Vivid and alive world Feeling of accomplishment when you do something right Map/Mission Editor Multiplayer Cons: Shoddy and inconsistent AI System hog all in all it was a good review. They explained features, and really got the message across that there is no other game like it out there. Unfortunately the bugs and often retarded AI can mess up the experience. They complained about the unnecessarily complicated control interface. I think it it was pretty much spot on.
  9. so I noticed, they updated their product page yesterday.... but it has to be a mistake... I mean, it can't possibly take so long for them to get their batch of games?

    MG's blowing up tanks?

the problem with the hitpoint system isn't that it takes a couple of thousand rounds to destroy a healthy MBT. that's just too unplausable to happen in actual gameplay, so it's a non-issue. It's when something else attacks the MBT first, but doesn't quite destroy it (another tank, AT soldier, Hydra rockets et.c). Then someone with a light machine gun comes and shoot maybe a couple of hundred rounds and it blows up

    ArmA II is #1!

I think it's a little too early for a game like ARMA to reach a million.
  12. I usually go to Third Person when proning behind tall grass. You can shoot at the enemy using your fairly accurate crosshairs

    ArmA 2 Demo feedback

same happened to me, or, well, the OPFOR AI ran in front of me and the instructor, started shooting. Instructor hit the dirt, I brought out my M16 and popped the enemy. Another OPFOR AI was moving across the tree line in front so I killed him as well. finished AT training, and went to MOUT with two less enemies to kill.

  15. nice test, certainly looks like the behave realistically Can you shoot suppressed weapons with realistic reactions? The sonic crack should make them take cover, but they shouldn't be able to pinpoint you very easily. I'd try it myself, but I don't have the game and I just uninstalled the demo

    ArmA 2 Demo feedback

okay, I've played the entire demo now. Played training twice, Trial by fire two and a half times and the Warfare thing once. Loving it. never crashed once, performance is pretty good. Like I mentioned before, standard settings for headbobbing was excessive, I decreased it to half. Blur makes it hard to spot enemies, I disabled Post Processing which I think helped a little. I am now used to the controls, but the squad commands seems to work slightly differently from OFP/ARMA? Just takes some time getting used to, I guess. Might play some more Warfare. but I am definitly buying the game. not exactly sure when, but I will buy it! I'd like to have the Steam version, but it's more expensive, and my favourite retailer is all sold out, been so since day 1 (!) with no new shipment date.

    ArmA 2 Demo feedback

The demo is good, almost has me convinced to buy the game. I haven't played the entire demo, will do the rest tomorrow. First impressions: Friendly AI seems to rush into combat, which gets them killed quite often. First time I played Trial by Fire (?) they were all wiped out before we even got to the final target. All the post processing makes it extremely hard to spot enemies. I find myself going into Third Person + Zooming to scan for enemies. IMO too much blur on distant objects. heck, probably too much blur on everything. Standard setting for head bobbing was pretty extreme. I never had any problems with nausea while playing games, but ARMA2 was damn near. I halved it and it was perfect. Other than that it was great fun. A bit hard to get used to controlling helicopters again, and the cars are very easy to over and under steer. It's also a very generous demo, has a lot of content! edit: oh, performance was great. I was expecting a laggy mess, but it actually runs pretty nice at 1680x1050 Med/High on my rig: A64 X2 6000+ @ 3,3GHz 6GB RAM HD4850 512MB
  18. DX11 hasn't launched yet, so you couldn't have installed it. It will launch with Windows 7, and there is no hardware out for it yet only ATI cards so far support DX10.1 There is no DX10.1 (or even 10.0?) features supported in ARMA2

Who's going to resist buying on the 19th?

I probably won't get it on the 19th. If the demo is stellar, maybe. but I think I will opt to wait a month or two for some patches to come out
  20. I know 1GB is nothing these days, but I've never seend a demo that was 2GB
  21. wow, 2 gigs for a demo? That must be some kind of a record? Praise the IT lords for broadband!

    Digital purchase (download)?

no need to use the disc. that's about it. game costs €37 in stores in Sweden. Steam price €48. Not difficult to figure out which version I'm buying
  23. hallo. this is what I'm gonna be playing with A64 X2 6000+ OC'd to 3,3GHz 6GB DDR2 HD4850 512Mb no doubt it's gonna work, but I wanna play at 1680x1050, so I might be getting some upgrades. I'll let the demo decide that
  24. I'm going crazy here. I've destroyed all tanks, I even flew over to the small enemy base with the Shilka, cleaned out everything! I even got out of my helicopter and searched the entire area in a grid pattern by foot(thank you 4x time speed). There were a few soldiers hiding in the forest, but I killed them all. I've scanned the entire area from the heli and by foot. There are plenty of american soldiers left alive, and also a few tanks. I've blow the crap out of ever tank (not just "Disabled and killed crew" but shot a few extra rockets into them all, leaving only smoldering wreckages.) I've been flying/walking around for a good hour and a half now, I had to refuel and rearm a lot of times! Any hints/tips? after spending all this time I really don't feel like doing it all over again! is there like a "kill all enemies on map" or "end mission" thingy to do?
