What do you think off the "future" setting

Nah, Macross was transforming Space F14s in the UN fighting 50ft tall alien humans in powered armor. This is one of the many, many parts of the Gundam Franchise, 08th MS Team to be precise.

What do you think off the "future" setting

Basically. A rather effective escape system it seems...amazed how it even flies with that 175mm gun for a nose though...:p

What do you think off the "future" setting

Bad mechs are like a tank. Good mechs are like oversized powered armor built to wield heavy weapons and not die to small arms fire. :) Unfortunately most mechs are too large and slow to do more than die to enemy fire that sits beyond their effective range because it's designer doesn't actually understand how effective weapons actually are... Pictured: A realistic depiction of the average mech fighting [goofy anime Space Nazi] tanks.

    World In Conflict

I have discovered that skirmishes are 10x more entertaining when you don't let the AI play armor.

    World In Conflict

For a game that has enough graphical content to run rather slow on my machine with most of the details off, you sure don't spend a lot of time looking at it. Also, agree with everything said so far...anybody tried to mod this to be less yet?

    Far Cry 2

Occasionally, I do see some of them simply chilling out rather than just standing there. I did it once...I tend to wound them a lot but the fight's usually too intense for them to do anything about it. I've also seen them limp and crawl away after being wounded and I've seen the occasional one run away to cower in fear behind a shed.

    Your view distance

Select the answer nearest to yours. I set mine to 2000 and it works pretty good. I'm guessing the majority is about 1500.

    Operation Flashpoint 2 officially announced

BIS have lost credibility with publishing ArmA. People will rush to Codemaster's OpF 2 massively...not becouse of name, but there is just too many disappointed people with ArmA. Period. Dissapointed? ArmA is exactly (Or more considering the gfx) what BIS said it would be, OFP 1.5. I remember when we were debating whether ArmA would even allow for two guns on a Blackhawk and Commander MGs right up to the point of passionately debating whether a screenshot of a Blackhawk had one or two MGs. Back on topic, whether OFP2 fails in an epic fashion or annihilates the competition is irrelevant to me. If OFP2 turns out to be better than ArmA 2, I'll probably move to it. If not, I'll be playing a BIS game. As was said before, it's a win - win situation. There's competition so modern infantry combat sims will not be quietly fading away like space sims did anytime soon.

Can anyone recommend any good MMOG's

For the most part I have found pay to play MMOs to be about the same in terms gameplay. Maybe one has a special feature that this other over here doesn't but for the most part it's almost exactly the same... There are free MMOs out there that are just as good as their money necessary counterparts and the only place I can tell that they are lacking is in character creation... The only real exception that I have seen so far is EVE, and it's an entirely different genre. LOTRO - Identical to every other fantasy MMO except set in Middle Earth. Good terrain though... SWG - Worst game I have yet to play. If this were an SP RPG it would still suck. The rarest creatures ever conceived in Star Wars are spawned in groups of fifty or more sometimes right in a town. Seeing a giant Krayt Dragon walking down the street of a poorly contructed town is a bit immersion breaking. You can get shot through walls. NPCs will run to you at physics breaking velocities and kill you before you can even turn around and run away. Terrain is meh. Collision detection is almost non-existant. Also has the fantasy grind. EVE - Excellent. Though they replaced the monster killing grind with mining asteroids for cash. Corporate politics and wars are intriguing as are the things that are technically legal to do in game, like absconding with your Corp's entire stock of really expensive ships and then ransoming them back to them at a higher price. Do watch out for pirates in low security areas though, your day could be going just fine then someone jumps out of nowhere, starts scrambling your ftl, and proceeds to turn your ship into swiss cheese. 2Moons Beta - Generic Fantasy MMO.

    1.09 question

It is because we wanted to implement some more functionality than was present in OFP (most of all leaning, and improved control over crouching and walking), and this forced us to change the layout siginificantly. Oh yeah...I keep forgetting about lean functionality, really old habits die hard I guess. I suppose that does take up a minimum of two keys. Hrm...I can't recall using A and D for anything recently... Time for a possible rebinding...

    1.09 question

After some working with the controls I can now fly helicopters, though it's still a bit twitchy... My main issue is that somehow the controls for planes/helicopters got botched... By messing with my controls to OFP chopper defaults, my planes nose goes down when I press "W" rather than increases speed....and "E" does nothing... I think "Q" and "Z" were sort of universal "Up" and "Down" in OFP, but they aren't here. That brings me to another point, why are infantry controls so different from OFP (They do the same thing, but have totally different control layouts) and where is my "haul ass" key?
  15. Commander-598

    1.09 question

I only have ONE complaint about ArmA, aircraft controls. Technically, the controls are all the same as they were in OFP I think, but somehow they operate so damned differently. I could take an Apache across Nogova at less than 5m above ground at 150km/h or whatever they did speed by but I somehow keep hitting all the wrong keys in ArmA and add in the general twitchiness of aircraft, helicopters in particular, and I can barely keep any of them airborne much less actually use them in a combat situation. I could rape armored columns all day long in OFP, but now I can't even take off properly... Beyond that, I'm in full agreement that the lot of you who came in with ArmA are asking too much. A lot of it sounds damn familiar too...at least you didn't have to wait for patch 1.9X for the Camel.

Red Orchestra OstFront 41-45 new Summer update

I haven't really played much recently. Mostly been sucking gigabytes almost 24/7 the past few weeks then an accident that forced me to reinstall Vista and reinstall all my crap. My Steam Score has fallen dramatically as a result...

COD like combat in Arma 2

I have been flanked and killed by the AI in OFP before so it definitely works...I only recently got a hold of ArmA so I have yet to really see what the AI can do in it...but I doubt it's much better...
  18. Commander-598

COD like combat in Arma 2

It is however heresy to criticize the AI for things that no other game has either. Especially when ArmA was never supposed to be a completely new OFP...that's what Game 2/ArmA2 was/is for. You're asking a bit much of something that is still basically the same game that was released about seven years ago.

    Another "FRIENDLY" fire incident

This list is missing the incident in or near I "think" Basra where I believe two USMC AAV7s loaded soldiers were destroyed by a pair of A10s...if I recall correctly they claimed that they thought they were enemy armor... I really think the USAF needs to up it's eye exams...AAV7s are pretty distinct and to misidentify them while flying low and slow like they were should be nigh impossible.

COD like combat in Arma 2

I know it's possible to do it, but I sure as hell wouldn't. I'm not sure if we're understanding each other...running AND shooting is unrelated to stamina and has been proven to destroy accuracy. I personally feel that you're talking about running and then shooting... There is somewhat of a difference between what is basically a backpack (Right?) and an extra pair of rifles in addition to the one you've already got and your rocket launcher. Unless he was wondering why you could have carry a rifle + AT weapon and not rifle + smg, in which case we're arguing over nothing. The MP5 would just be taking up useful ammo slots and be overall less useful than just the M4. I'd love to know how you "prep" a grenade...aside from just having it in a place where you can get to it easy. I estimate it would take 1.5 seconds at the bare minimum for a human being to get the grenade and pull the pin and an extra second to throw it. So I say about a minimum of three...Four seconds is definitely acceptable. I'm not totally clueless here, I am holding an empty M62 Frag Grenade and unless there's been some revolution in hand grenade technology since it went out of style I'm guessing it still will take some effort to throw one. I didn't see any flaming...just information. While I may not have first hand military experience, I have been feeding off first hand experiences for some time, and I do have decent experience with firearms and various woodsy things like tracking and stealth.

COD like combat in Arma 2

*Points to Every Soldier in the World* You probably could but I'd put good odds on a soldier dropping the new mag or tripping over something and face planting. *Points to US Marine with 80lbs of body armor, ammunition, and his weapon* (Did you mean 100m?)*Points to every soldier in the world* Show me a game where that's actually a feature. Show me a soldier with four arms that isn't already overburdened by his body armor, ammunition, and current weapons. *Points to every soldier in the world* Seriously. You try pulling it out of whatever pocket it's in, pulling it's pin, throwing your arm all the way back and hurling it across a field in under four seconds.

COD like combat in Arma 2

You're missing the point. We're trying to tell you that these other FPS's that you seem to hold in such high regard aren't all that special in the AI department either, in fact often less. STALKER - I've seen the AI do clever things some times...but none of it involved human NPCs. To this date I have yet to see a single human NPC in STALKER retreat. I have however seen groups repeatedly walk right into the sights of a better equipped and entrenched enemy and die without doing any damage. FEAR - I have seen FEAR AI do seemingly clever things as well, such as leaping rails and climbing ladders without the apparent use of scripts. They will retreat and attempt to flank... Yeah, FEAR's good. Of course, FEAR's AI is optimized for close quarters and linear level design doesn't really give them a chance to REALLY prove it...I'd love to see how they perform on a large map with several fully modeled buildings and an enemy sniper. CoD - I'd almost say it doesn't have AI. As stated it's pretty much: Spawn -> Goto Cover -> Pop Out Semi-Randomly and Shoot at Enemy/Throw Grenade -> Die. Brothers in Arms - Never played, but heard it was supposed to have suppresive fire implemented in a preview prior to it's release. I should point out that any "suppresive fire" you may have seen in the above, minus BiA, was probably made up in your head as "suppresive fire" is not part of their AI programming. I should also point out that HL1(99?) had retreating and grenade throwing AI, so those features should be a standard today but it somehow isn't even close in some cases. If you place two squads 500m apart, and they see each other they will start shooting, some will break off and attempt to flank, they will probably be shot in the attempt if you didn't put them near cover... And while waypoints may count as scripting, it's a helluva lot less than that of other games. If you tell it go "over there" and it gets attacked en route it will fight back, hit the deck, find some trees, tell a wounded soldier to get to the squad's medic, etc without you telling it to this in the editor, and as previously mentioned it will call support by itself if it needs it.(In fact, there should be an option for artillery and air support from the support menu, it's well within the game's capabilities)

COD like combat in Arma 2

I beg your pardon. They do attempt to flank you, however the environment may hinder this quite a bit. I remember sniping a squad on Malden, and I watched the remnants of that squad sneak up a mountain from over 1km away and stealthily come up to my previous position. They also occasionally run away. I was just playing around with a BMP and a Stryker. Knocked the Stryker out, crew bailed killed one. Somehow flipped the BMP in the process of trying to run the other crewman down. After bailing my three man team out, I could not find any trace of the little SOB. Even in OFP they would eventually come back, but I could not find him... They aren't as dumb and suicidal as you think they are, you just give them impossible situations that kill them before they can form a proper response. Also, I'll have you know that there is no mountain range in the middle of my local golf course.

COD like combat in Arma 2

AI is a complex thing and CoD is heavily scripted, not to mention their AI isn't as good of a shot as it should be. OFP/ArmA's AI is in my oppinion better than CoD's as it doesn't rely on scripts to tell it what to do, however as far as the AI's concerned there isn't any cover in the middle of a street or nearby so the only option left for it is to hit the dirt and it's a still a good idea for you to do it too. Also note, under the right conditions, you will see them take cover, it's just usually behind a tree or bush than around the corner of a building. When told to go down "this hill" a squad will stick that line of trees over "there"...without having to have a pre-placed marker to tell it that it's a good idea. I should also point out that there may not actually been any cover anywhere on the street anyway and finding cover would require backtracking for a hundred yards but only making it fifteen because they got shot in the back trying to find a perfectly blown apart wall to cover half of their body so it would look good to the player. That last part was only half of a rant...

    Trojan horse in Arma patches

Huh? All GamersHell downloads come in a zip with a shortcut to GamersHell (labeled GamersHell), a readme for the downloaded file, and a text file saying that it was downloaded from GamersHell (GH3d.txt). If there really IS something harmful in a GamersHell file, you should probably tell them.
