kiska / skira ,does anyone want to see this island in A2 ? (the OFPDR island)
Banderas replied to 9thAircav's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
The island looks pretty neat at this stage, some houses are either half buried into the ground, or partly are over it, that's all I saw in the few minutes I flew/walked around it. One thing sure, it looks and feels better than DR one. -
nono, it fixed the PMC bug with the balaclavas, works very well indeed. My other bugs can be related to OA I think, I get this warning message with OAC/CAA since I have OA: "Picture \ca\ui\data\splash1_co.paa not found" and some missing texture messages can be found in 3rd party islands (Kolgujev 2010 specifically). Also double entries are addon related, for example I've got double faction entries when using D@vle's SLA pack About those mosque sounds, isn't it possible they might be related to GL3 or 4? If I recall well that uses some extra sound effects, like canon in churces, honking in towns and "muezzin" sounds near Middle-Eastern style buildings?

URR Islands: Kolgujev 2010 v1.1, Nogova 2010 v2, Everon 2010 v3
Banderas replied to hotzenplotz's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Looking forward for Nogova 2010. No Malden 2010 in plan? -
Hey Legislator! Thanks for the fix, it works well, PMC characters don't have balaclavas anymore. As you said, CAA still has some small compability problems (double entries, missing texture popups, ect...). Hopefully I will have some time at my hand in the future and try to fix some of them

Probably will cost ya a lot of beers but I can keep my mouth shut :D

@NodUnit It's too late to edit, I saw it ;) Vherrrry nice by the way, I definetly will use a replacement pack for this unit

ARMA 2: Private Military Company 1.00 released
Banderas replied to Dwarden's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Well I forgot to say that hopefully the campaign will make up for the rest of the contents. I just didn't have the time to play with that yet. Of course opinions are opinions and can be changed, my opinion is still it's a quite good DLC for the price compared to other games' DLCs, and I don't regret I bought it. But compared to BAF, it just couldn't catch up with that, but contentwise, never worse than PMC DLC. Hopefully after I can play the campaign, my opinion will change. -
ARMA 2: Private Military Company 1.00 released
Banderas replied to Dwarden's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
After a bit of a play with the DLC (I didn't try ARMEX and the campaign yet), my feelings are mixed a bit. On one hand it still brings more content for the money than most DLCs you can find. On the other hand, well it's definite stepback in quality/quantity. With BAF BIS set a new standard for the concept of DLC; nice new units within a quite usable new faction (even if they're not all-around they at least can defend themeselves against every threat), new campaign, new SP missions, new dubbing, some new features and lastly the generous lite version. With the new DLC, they went under their own standard, and on major fronts; lesser units, lesser new vehicles, one new weapon and a lot of recycled ones, and a very small new map with almost nothing on it, except for a big crater. I think some more content should have been included, some more vehicles (Grizzly APC lookalike, ), one or two more new weapons, and the wasteland-style map would deserve a bigger size and more diversity. Now that I bought this DLC, I won't ask my money back, it wasn't mandatory to buy it; but please, do not go under your own set standard next time. -
URR Islands: Kolgujev 2010 v1.1, Nogova 2010 v2, Everon 2010 v3
Banderas replied to hotzenplotz's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Hello Hotzen, nice release, I like your Everon even a bit better than SAP one (new Kolgujev I didn't test yet, have to go to night shift). Only thing I regret it's not a size-up like Kolgujev 2010, but oh well, I like it anyways. I'd like to ask however a bit of update, to put the foliage and buildings on the smaller islands around, namely; -northeast small island had a little garrison on it; -to the south of it the even smaller island had a radio station and two barracks; -the south/southwestern small island had a farm and a boat shed on it Nice and fast work, hope to see Malden and Nogova also out of your hands :) -

Summthinn called The Bridge on the River Kwai Red?:D -
As far as I know, 9mm rounds are not very powerful in real life, I've seen a documentary where FBI trainees were instructed that in case they have to fire their issued weapon (at that time standard issue was 9mm P228), they had to fire almost all their bullets into the perperator/suspect, because if not a vital organ is hit then they won't recognize their own wounds for up to several minutes. So in my opinion, 9mm bullets are good as they are. The better solution would be to make "instantly lethal" areas (heart, brain, spine) in the human damage models instead of just general areas like torso, head, arms & legs, so let's say two-three 9mm rounds in the general chest area wouldn't mean immediate kill, but one hit in these vital organs would mean instant death.

CM Operation Flashpoint 3 announced | "Oops, they're doing it again..."
Banderas replied to Undeceived's topic in OFFTOPIC
Nicely said. I think people seem to forget that OFP/ArmA is in first and foremost about the Tactics -one of the last games truly dedicated for this -and not about the visuals of killing/murdering. Also films and video games make people to have stupid perceptions on what it looks like when somebody takes a hit. In real life you won't see anybody flying back from a shotgun blast, people won't do triple barrel-rolls from hand grenade explosions (I even doubt it can "move" around human body in any form - think about those who save others by hurling themselves on a grenade), limbs don't get cut into piles meters high like in a killbill movie, and people don't start falling like beanbag-dolls when HP reaches zero... I remember how much I liked Rouge Spear's and Ghost Recon's damage modelling - no dismemberment, no big red clouds on hit, no ragdoll, just little red dots where I've hit the "target", and some blood pouring out of the body, was (IS) much more immersive than tons of limbs cut off, hundreds of kgs of guts torned out or puppets falling down when the wires are cut. you can bet it will do good on consoles, fancy enough for no-brainers... Indeed. Especially after Activision clusterf*cked the already clusterf*ck (since 2nd CoD title at least) Infinity Ward. One of the biggest lolabout BO is when a dev was asked "what the hell about the three-round burst capable M16A1 in MP?" answer was "It's an early prototype...." Technically yes, but don't try to tell that into the eye of any of them :D -

How about the Takistan Army and Takistani Militia? :) -
Once again to say that has been told many times (and seemingly needed to be stated zime after time): Different things need different skills... Making new maps/units/3d objects/eyecandies is a different work than making new engine features -AI programming, 3d editor, advanced flight models, ect.... While the 3d artist/texturers can do new units or maps, they hardly will ever do anything to improve just the main engine. Those people who are making these things (engine improvement) got their hands full with making beta patches almost every two-three days. If the modellers have free time of their own, then it's not a problem for me if they do all the armies in the world to be represented in Arma.

Banderas replied to stupidwhitekid75's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I'm amazed by all of you people.... Even when Arma 1 came out, there was a lot of demand for Afghanistan/Iraq-like scenarios (ie. counter-insurgency), advanced night equipment features, IEDs, ect... Now there's one expansion (I don't count DLCs) out about this theme for half year, and the sounds of "had enuff of itt" go loud. I guess it's again that one can't satisfy everyone... @vinc3nt, @Cookieeater How about making a campaign/mission pack with stock Arma 2 factions but leaving out the USMC faction? (CDF -> Bosnian Croats; CHDkZ -> Bosnian Serbs; NAPA -> Bosniaks)? -
WIP: Stuff you are working on 2!
Banderas replied to max power's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
CoD is all about "stealing" (or to say it nicely "parts have been inspired by") features from films/books/other games, since the very beginning. Anyways, I beleive in Aliens there was motion sensor, whether R6 book had heartbeat sensor? Anyway, they're something similar anyway :) -
is a rts mode possible in arma 2?
Banderas replied to ray243's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Somewhen I saw a WIP video for an RTS mod back in Arma 1 days...if I find it I'll post. So I think not the RTS you know, but I think the game is versatile enough to make it into a full RTS. -
@Macadam Cow I don't think the offense is directed against you or me or others that are not very active on the forums, rather against little a**heads who don't put two matches in a cross and yabbling and nitpicking around how addons should be made/released/beta-tested... We have a local idium for it; If it is not one's shirt, one should not put it on. Hope this make your day better. Good to know you're in good health Eddie. Be well and don't neglect your studies too much for stupid "games" like some of us :D

To make a sound for the other side of the coin, I think we already have enough hyper-super-duper special forces douchebags with heartbeat sensor on their rifles and stuff :) I think it would be a bit refreshing to see some ol'school special forces guys for the CDF. with less high-tech/end gear just to end up as another reskin of Delta Force guys with M4s/SCARs and MICH helmets + CIRAS/SPC vests. So I'd say go ahead with berets/bandanas/boonies/hats with minimal western equipment, just to steer a bit away from Specnaz looks. But of course the call is Nixo's to make, best solution for demanders (and hardest for Nixo) would be to make both types.

This game soon becomes the longest developed game in history, not counting Duke Nukem Forever...release in two weeks :D I'm hoping for a less inhuman AI (without non-overheating engines, and turns so close that a Su-35 could shame itself), working engine oil-systems (means hitting oil radiator brings down the dang plane), and not laser-precise defensive gunners on planes. Also hope that if there will be future expansions with Russian planes, then they aren't going to be the terminators of the skies (hello mister I-16, LaGG-3 to name a few).

sorry for off :)
