    Quarantine

    Hi I'm looking forward to trying your mission but I have a question about the required RH pistol pack. In the readme the link to the addon is no longer good so I did a search on armaholic and found an RH reskin mod but it didn't say much about pistols, is this the correct mod or did he do another I'm somehow missing? Thanks for the mission hopefully I won't need Queens gambit. The link to the other pistol pack I saw did requier it I'm hoping the readme is the more current one.

    Whats the point!

    I really thought people would at least use the Hind. Even switching it fromt he Ka-50 flying around to the hind in evo would add alot at least to me. I can't speak for all the helo pilots but for me its one of the most enjoyable to fly. And like others in terms of multiplay its been up to this point mostly wasted. I still think these mods will eventually surface in multiplay but its taking alot longer then I thought.

    GAU-8 on A10

    http://www.gdatp.com/products/Gun_Systems/GAU-8A/GAU-8A.htm As you can see .... it does. Dispersion is incorperated into the gun system. "Dispersion 5 Milliradians Diameter, 80 Percent Circle" This is not a result of a test, this is the manufactured spec. "80 Percent Circle" which indicated a very close group but ones thats designed not to be one bullet following another. I do think however this is a much tighter group then the M61's.

    GAU-8 on A10

    Hi guys just wanted to let you know that at least on the M61 and probably on the GAU-8 also the barrels are aligned in such a way so that theres dispersion built into the gun system. Each barrel fires a slightly different path then the previous, givin the high rate of rotation this produces a circle shaped impact pattern. The clearest example of this can be found in the old gun camera footage from the Israeli air force of thier air to air engagments in the 60-'s and 70's. You will see the HUD gunsight is a circle representing the pattern of the guns dispersion. I haven't seen this site used at all in modern fighters, it seems to have been replaced with more advanced displays. I have no idea but I'd bet the GAU-8 works the same way. Edit: In reguards to the burst settings, a many years ago it was reported that anything above 80 rounds or so could produce enough gas to present a problem for the engine on the left hand side sever enough to cause a potential failure in that engine as it vents on the left. The GAU-8 is cabale of firing many more then 80 rounds per burst but in terms of arma I suspect its something else. The damage model. Isn't it possible BIS compensated for the lack of an accurate damage model with an insane rate of fire for the GAU-8 to produce realistic results? In reality only a very few would be needed to kill everything inside the tank. Probably less then 20 good hits would kill the crew maybe even fewer assuming a lucky hit. Even one 30MM depeleted uranium shell coming into the top of turret would be pretty bad news for anyone inside. But arma has no mechanics to accurately represent this. Perhaps they just piled on the rate of fire to increase damage in a way that produces somewhat realistic real life effects.

    Body Armor In ArmA

    I will agree in cases such of the 9mm. I've read several things about the 9mm's continued lack of preformance in some isolated cases in Iraq and then theres its long history with law enforcement. Same ole story bad guys hit several times and still having a large amount of time to fight back. I'm sure your all familiar with those issues. My concern is this and I hinted at it in my last post but didn't explain it well. Thinking of what really goes on in the game, think back to the times you've been hit. Now lets assume they add a 200% hit bonus to all aspects of the tropps damage model, it would make no differance. Why? because the AI will fire 2 or 3 sniper shots to kill you instead of 1. And they will do it so rapidly it will make no differance how much armour you have. Remember back to all the times you've been killed, for me at least theres many times where I recive a barrage of accurate fire instead of the lone sniper shot. We are talking of tenths of seconds of additional life even with a very large armor upgrade. Thats my only concern, that until thats fixed all other efforts will be frusterated.

    Try using this instead. this setpos [(getpos this select 0),(getpos this select 1), 1] Edit: The last number is what determines the hieght of an object, I'm not 100% clear on exactly what your doing but if its an object this should work.

    Body Armor In ArmA

    Exactly what I was about to post. Fredderf your really describing two seperate problems. One the lethality, the other the sniper shots the AI is famous for taking. Its the latter thats prompted the most calls for an improved body armor system. My point is even if armor is added the main most glaring problem will still exsist and pose problems for the simulation thats created. The problem is detection quirks by the AI and of course AI's shooting abilitys. Edit : Just wanted to add I don't think anyones saying an AK-74 cannot hit at say 500 meters, instead that the chances of this happening against a suprised enemy are astronomical, some past threads on the topic get derailed on that point, we all know the round can travel that far or farther.

    No I don't think any additional body armor, magic sheilds, or leprechauns should exisist in Arma. Additionally I think your poll question is so obviously biased that it looses all credibility. I suspect your trying to get something more along the lines of the BF, Halo, or other online FPS's out of Arma. Thats your right and your not alone. However I don't think its realistic to expect the developers or even the modding community as a whole to move away from what the game was designed for (realism) just to scratch this itch some seem to have reguarding the unforgiving nature of the game, particularly infantry play. I love the game as it is, this is what I expected when I purchanced it. The problem is when you suggest to someone they are playing the wrong game for what they are seeking everyone gets defensive and upset so I'll just say best of luck instead.

    Disappointed?

    Heya Orb505 I'm a ex wwiiol player (allied) myself welcome As far as if your going to be disapointed theres no way anyone can tell ya that really but I can say it nothing like wwiiol. For me this was a great thing, but comparing the two they are two totally different beasts. As for me I don't miss wwiiol at all. Theres tons of brits and other euros playing, sometimes it seems like more of them then there are North Americans, finding a sqaud should not be too difficult. If wwiiol, is what you've been used to I suspect you'll be saying "wow" alot while you play Arma, the differance in models alone is staggering not to mention the terrain. Best of luck to you.

    ArmA Disappointing

    Just wanted to chime in since everyone else seems to be I fuigure my opinion is just as valid. I am very happy with Arma. not only for what it is but the potential I see for it in the future. I can't remember a time I've sunk so many hours into one game. Sorry for those that are dissapointed but like OFP you either get it or you don't, there seems to be no in between. As has probably been said before (I didn't read every post) give it a try in a year or so after the tools, patches, and maybe even expansions are out. I honestly think most players who dislike it where lost in the concept phase, maybe even going all the way back to OFP and not the execution of the development. Some just don't want this type of thing and will never be happy with it. others simply will never be happy with anything. Still I'm always sad to see fellow OFP'rs go I just can't imagine why they can't see what I do but I'm sure the feelings mutual.

    Better than TrackIR?

    Thanks for posting I had no idea they where even taking the first real steps into this technology. I thought the reporters estimate that this may appear in games within a year a bit optimistic however in 5 years or so who knows. Thats still earlier then expected in my book. I should start training myself now I suppose not to allow my mind to drift to thoughts of "boobehs" while I game. Joking of course but in all seriousness I'm curious to know what level of concentration would be requiered. I think probably it would take alot in the early examples gradually becoming more refined and less mentally stressful to use later.

    Iron sights

    I actaully prefer Iron sights over the ACOG in most situations. The reason for this is probably because when i practice I use the Iron sights and have more experiance with it rather then the ACOG. Second when wounded I find it far easier to aim with iron sights then when looking through those bouncing optics. I know the muzzel moves the same on both and perhaps its only a mental thing however if you get hit and (you probably will be) you don't want an ACOG. Practice alot with the M-16 A2 or A4. If you can shoot that well at range you can hit with anything.

    M1A1 Cheese tank?

    The AI does not shoot tanks with MG but it will fire small arms at the BRDM's in addition to M136 rockets. I noticed this in a mission I made a few months ago. I assumed my impression that the BRDM was immue to small caliber fire was false and thought nothing more of it. Perhaps the BRDM is that thin skinned I'm not sure. It is a little strange to see troops firing 5.56 ammo at an armored target reguardless of its type, it would seem to me the first thought should always be to grab whatever anti tank weapon was avalible first before trying to drill into it with rifles.

    Love the looks of the UN version as well as the civilian one. GranQ, you've probably thought about this already givin the time you've put into this but in reguards to the crate drop script. - Is there any way to drop a standard US/ SLA/ RACS ammo crate in this fashion?
  23. I have a question. Do incomming M203 40MM grenade rounds make a similar sound when your on the reciving end? Or any of the tube launched rifle mounted grenade launchers? I know morters tend to be at least 60MM or greater and maybe 40MM is to small to make that noise but I was just curious thanks.

    Fantastic work. I downloaded it thinking -ho hum another plane but was totally blow away by it. It fits well into the world, its highly useful, and its not overmodeled preformance wise. I love the slugish controls, really gives you the feeling your flying a large aircraft. Thanks
