Just... wow... o.O Thanks for making this.
-
Working trains on a new island would be a nice addition. Also, having small caves in the environment would be nice.

To those needing usernames/pwds: they're right there on the site, staring you in the face. :) It took me ages to figure them out - when you find one and log out for the next, do NOT enter the names right in that login dialog. Click Cancel first when logging out and then go to Client. Otherwise you'll keep missing them. Thanks to whoever first brought this up, you saved me a lot of hair. :)

Does OPFOR AI's avoid taking cover in villages?
xxbbcc replied to BF2_Trooper's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Possibly, although it could also be related to issues with pathfinding. I saw enemies in villages though - certainly attacking me and sometimes even taking cover (leaning, etc.), so I think it was working, for the most part. -
Welcome to the forums. One thing you may want to do is look for a sound addon, a few addons that customize gameplay (PROPER addons are a good place to start) and a good AI addon for AI tweaks. Also make sure you install the latest patch (and even the latest beta if you don't play online.)

I see - yeah, you have a point regarding tank gunners. I rarely play tanks so I didn't think of that.

I'm going to repeat myself for the Nth time, hoping it gets noticed by BIS: I'd like to have official unified content for OFP, ArmA 1 and ArmA 2 - with all equipment, troops, islands, all buildings (from all games) - all at the ArmA 2 OA quality and feature level. This is not for the sake of nostalgia (well, not only): BIS obviously looks at ArmA as a development tool that we, the community use to make missions, addons, etc. I certainly look at it more like a development tool than a game. So in that vein, I'd like to have a single common set of resources with official support. I know of OPFIP, CAA1, etc, but they're not official packs and no one supports them anymore after Q has left. It's sad, because they're very, very good - so I'd like these to be picked up again by BIS, their original creator. As I said in the past, I realize that this would be a lot of work, but I'd be willing to buy such a pack. And it's not very likely that I'd buy other random troops or weapon packs - the British DLC is nice, I'm glad I have it, but I don't want more Canadian troops, French troops, etc.

So what's wrong with assigning them to color groups? It doesn't matter what rank they have, as long as they're in the same group, they will act together. No matter what you do, there will be situations when the icon order won't match whatever organisation you want to impose on them, so I'm not sure if there's much point in enforcing a particular organisation. Plus I think the AI is ordered according to how the mission is set up - so if #2 is a medic, the 2nd icon will be for a medic.

Use -endmission to trigger mission ending and to progress to the next mission. You won't see what you're typing, since it's a cheat.

BIS guys, thanks for fixing the commanding cursor - it's much better now that it works.
-
Equipment loss is one of the most annoying bugs in this game and BIS simply refuses to fix it. It is infuriating beyond belief. :(

I'm in the US and I had no problem buying from Sprocket. The only thing that could be a bit more apparent was the fact that tax wouldn't be added at the end of the transaction. I don't mind buying it from Sprocket, since it goes directly to BIS, unlike other publishers.

VFAI - AI Extension - ARMA II
xxbbcc replied to VictorFarbau's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
If you make enhancements, please also make a non-ACE version too. Thanks for maintaining this. -
I don't quite get why you're even trying to use a joystick for controlling infantry. (Using it for choppers or planes makes sense, of course.) I cannot imagine you can get anywhere near the necessary speed and precision with a joystick when it comes to movement and aiming. I don't know what you have in mind but it's almost guaranteed you're not doing yourself a favor. In my opinion, the only thing that adds to the keyboard + mouse combo in this game is the TrackIR.

If you just want the mission to finish, you can type -endmission (you won't see it.) This forces the mission to end. If you want the mission to end properly (which may not happen for various reasons), run around to make sure you took out all enemies and make sure you don't have any older waypoints you never hit. Some missions only end when you do things in an exact order or when all enemies are eliminated. If these don't help, you may be affected by a bug and then -endmission is the only way. (You can also replay the mission and see if it happens again.)

Sprocket downloaded BAF wont activate
xxbbcc replied to Angle's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Sprocket doesn't require any application to run the game, it's not like Steam. That's excatly why I got the game from Sprocket - you DL it, install it, put in your serial and then it works - no DVDs, no Steam handcuffs. -
Same here. I think the Eotech sights are nearly useless - the sight is so opaque and big that it mostly obscures everything.
-
In addition to that, if you have a DL version of the game + a DL version of BAF, then after online activation, it works without any discs (duh!) and extra software. I went with the DL option and Sprocket because of the same reason: I refuse to support (and install) anything Steam-related.
-
Thank you BIS guys, your work is much appreciated.
-
Thanks a lot for these. Will try and give feedback.

I agree with most in this thread - having frequent betas is a good thing. No one is forced to install all of them and having them keeps us informed about the progress plus we get fixes as soon as they get finished.

I'm very much against any kind of visual input systems because they tend to be awkward - selecting something with the mouse requires dedicated attention and precise movement, while I may want to target something at the same time. The current context-sensitive, mouse-driven action menu is near useless - I hate the menu that comes up automatically when I select a squad member. I really miss the menu of ArmA 1 - selecting a member brought up the simple number menu to show what options are available. Even that kept changing (under 6 (action)), but at least the menu identified choices. I realize it's not ideal but keypresses are still the most reliable ways of entering input. Somehow this is one area the BIS managed to consistently get worse over several releases. :(

ConfigExplorer 2.00 beta (release)
xxbbcc replied to HeliJunkie's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : ADDONS - Configs & Scripting
Thank you for this - your tool is immensely helpful. I second the request for a filter option, something that can filter on partial names (anywhere in a name.) This would make it easier to find classes for beginners. -
Thanks a lot, these look great.

oktNoBlur - Signed Blur Remover Addon
xxbbcc replied to oktane's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Thank you Defunkt, these are great. Would you mind releasing a separate pack just to remove map textures? I use the PROPER pack for most UI tweaks and I'd like to mix & match but your pack changes some things that the PROPER pack changes.
