  1. Those aren't blob shadows, they're Soft shadows. They look good but also come with a performance hit, if I'm not mistaken. Should be gpu only though.

    Gun recoil and vibrating vision

There's been an awful lot of threads with related discussions lately. 1 page back there's a recoil one. http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=98514 in the second post I try to show a head-kick. A blur might be interesting.

Do you like the ArmA2 OA box art?

 Don't mess with this guy, he is Heavy and Armed.. I mean heavily armed! Heavily Armed!!!

    Give us pink! (Direct Channel)

didn't it used to be pink, in arma1/ofp?
  5. no sorry, I was talking to carl.
  6. Note first, I wrote '4' = addAction, but I didn't really intend for it to take over the action-menu as such, instead it would be an alternative place for mods. Unfortunately I think your priority on efficiency is where we'll never be able to agree. The inability to move or go prone is what I'd call inefficient. Intuitive functionality is my proposal, not speed of execution. But I actually agree that a multiple ring system could be a good idea - even with first ring having 11 options or more. Especially in consideration for mods, but I'd also like to see even more commands like: Thanks, Need Pickup, Wait for Me, Friendly Fire. Enemies Behind/Left/Right/Front. They all need a spot and so multiple rings may be a good idea where needed.
  7. edit: doh, wish I'd checked the LAST post before mine first... screw it :) I enjoy being able to move and give commands at the same time. I do have to let go of the mouse to reach ctrl+w + 6,7,8,9,0 keys but that's far preferable to being forced to stand still. However, I do think the numerical keys are being wasted away needlessly - especially if you're not leader. And the Response key is way over on the '0' key which is bothersome. So I'm not against the idea of a radial/rose menu, although I'm not sure I would prefer it. Of course if it was optional everyone would be happy. In fact, while we're at it, I quite like the idea of a fully customizable UI the likes of World of Warcraft. But wetdreams aside... Allow me to make a fool of myself by throwing in an arma/BF2 hybrid concept. Open Radial Menu = Press Key (1,2,3,4...) Select Option = LeftMB Close Menu = RightMB or Press Key Again example keys: '1' = Command Orders '2' = Reply & Status '3' = Spotting '4' = addActions '5' = ?? '6' = profit. (joke) Although with this system some actions may take slightly longer to do - like Command Orders, I suspect many people would prefer the radial style despite it. Here's a concept layout of the Reply & Status -- I do NOT consider it complete or perfect.. but go ahead anyway, do your worst :) Apologies for the obvious style-ripoff. The intent is simply to show what it COULD look like.

Is it possible to declutter the aicraft HUD?

That you can work around it is not an excuse to keep a silly feature in. If it was the replacement of the targetting box when lining up, cool, that'd be sexy. If it was a toggle that I could turn on and off, that's fine too. But as it is currently, I don't even want 1 of them boxes littering my visibility.

    Using animations in multiplayer?

Typically you cannot. The mission must allow you to do so. It can happen in several ways - either the action menu or the radio and triggers and such. you can try this in the editor man playmove "ActsPercMstpSnonWnonDnon_DancingDuoStefan"

Is it possible to declutter the aicraft HUD?

Actually what you said was that there were too many targets and so the fault was on the mission designer. And I hold little doubt the people you refer to couldn't find the all the hardcore modes they could possibly want -- even if the hud was moderated.

    Weapons Sway

Oh, no, I was not using any mods, should I have? didn't actually take as long as the first one.. had all the art already ;)

Is it possible to declutter the aicraft HUD?

And thou shall witness the greatest exodus of arma players to date. mil sim game != long respawn time, long travel time and other needlessly boring exercises. mil sim game == Realism minus the boring bits. Youtube cuts the bull down to the interesting bits + a few seconds of anticipation. Arma should too. The real world is typically boring. I agree that a long fight is a fun fight and that being forced to use cover is a good thing and these are arma's strongest points. But the solution is another: An enemy that is more lethal or greater in numbers or a combination. Sorry for OT. As said in the other thread, I agree with the OP.

    Weapons Sway

I've played for 30-40 minutes using your addon and comparing it to standard and my conclusion thus far: The little bit of extra shake/sway under normal circumstances is fine. Seems realistic and I'd say a lot better than vanilla arma. However the excessive shaking when breathing hard, wounded or under fire is completely undesirable. The level of shaking in arma-vanilla under wounded conditions etc was good and reasonable. Hard enough to make it undesirable to be wounded or exhausted, while still remaining playable and fun. My opinion only of course. Now I know that this is probably all you have to work with, but I have to say I think the real solution to sway will be found only when the front and the rear of the weapon is no longer completely attached. I'm going to try and represent this here: What this shows is BOTH the world AND the crosshair is moving around. It may be exaggerated and inaccurate and doesn't show all the bells and whistles that needed for a perfect simulation. Translated to IRON sights the world wouldn't shake, but the front of the gun would shake compared to the scope. I think. :) Please don't mistake this from the recoil concept I posted earlier. discuss

    Raised weapon sights

Oh dear. If you like arma I'd run to the store and pick up a copy right now if I were you.
  15. The hind is awesome, but that camo version is completely brilliant. gj
  16. Fast and easy sounds awfully reminiscent of dirty and hack. However, you may be right. I do remember the order to select weapon in the past. But I believe the features to facilitate the macro commands already exists as well.
  17. Yes, you can't judge a book by it's cover. It is unfair and no one should do so. I judge a book by it's cover. It's highly efficient and it serves its purpose very well. If it looks crap, no doubt it is. It saves me time and effort and therefore I do. If this is true, and I believe it is, then no logical reason remains as to why arma couldn't be without a less cheesy appearance. There's a saying among aircraft engineers: "if it looks good, it flies good" Lockheed won, Boeing lost.

    ARMA 2 for OnLive?

Any idea where you can buy credit default swaps on this company?
  19. I'm not against your idea but you could also have, in my opinion, more intuitive options ie: - Laser Designate Target (automaticly using LD) - Destroy Target (if it's a tank he'd use his RPG for instance) etc more macro options if you will.

Why is this game not more popular?

Come now. You're asking for the game's entrails to be ripped out and replaced with kittens and lightly dressed nightelves...It's been said before: Unofficial missions, servers, mods and all kinds of things that makes arma special can and probably will make nonsense of stat-tracking, achiements and that sort of stuff. And none of the other things you suggest make the actual "game" better or more accessible, either. A proper filter for addons would do more than any of things you suggest. The reality is that running for 5-10 minutes, without seing as much as a mosquito to entertain you only to be sniped in the face, throwing you right back to where you started, is something very few people find enjoyment in. Which is why I agree with SIC - I won't berate the designers, they've done infinitely better than I could have, but the mission designs are simply not good enough and must take part of the blame.

    Tanking

a suggestion I made in late 2008 (top post for more details) Still think something like this is worth consideration. :)
  22. That's what you call a target rich evironment. I agree however, it is excessive. The box would be nice as an alternative to the normal targetting box though. I've not really thought that idea through... maybe dumb.

    Hip firing and crosshairs

Removing the bead will help a bit of course, and maybe quite a bit when gasping for breath - when the crosshair bars are far apart. However it will only barely help the real problem which is that it's the first aimed bullet that makes all the difference -- It's dead accurate, right between the bars of the crosshair - bead or no bead. I guess the ultimate question is how much more accurate should sighted aiming be? A lot? A little? Not at all? It's very subjective, although I think at very low advantage the purpose of ironsights' existence come into question. Realisticly speaking, I doubt very much that anyone can hit unsighted with the accuracy that you have in arma. 200-300 meters unsighted? Surely not. Personally, I think the only proper solution to making sights more appealing is to make the crosshair an average direction as opposed to an absolute - giving it x% deviation. This requires the aim is x% less steady of course - not necessarily shaky, but perhaps more like drifting. It doesn't have to be much, constant or fast, but even then I suspect many will prefer the easy-to-steady aim that doesn't require constant/frequent realigning. Of course you could give sights the ultimate benefit: only drifting in unsighted mode. discuss.

    Recoils

Which type of recoil works best I honestly have no idea. There's been a lot of different suggestions over the ages. There's some resistance to have screen-shakes in general however - many get seasick when using head-bob for instance. I was excited when I first saw headbob in the arma 2 trailer however I must admit having it only ~35% today. I suppose it was more appealing as a video effect than a gameplay one :) There may be better ways to make recoil more exciting. For instance, arma 1 style kickback recoil seems to have gotten quite a few votes. The kickback in arma2 IS quite weak. Check the video comparison of A1 and A2. I remember dslyecxi's article showing Infiltration's quite different scopes: scroll down to the "Scopes" section. Check the video. You can also see a screen shake effect on ironsights in the other sections. Whether that's desirable I couldn't say. By no means am I a weapons expert (only fired an air-rifle thingy a few times), but I often thought maybe the right type of recoil was more of a head-kickback than anything else. I just wasted hour+ trying to represent this, so people better like it ;) Be mindful that this representation is missing factors such as shaking and vertical kick. What it does show is, when the kick comes, the scope gets closer to you and the view is zoomed out - giving you the impression of a kick-back. Notice also that the scope here is smaller than arma2's. This may or may not be necessary. discuss :)

Why is the CIT not more popular? Because it's too complex and it's is filled with elitist mil sim vultures ;)
