  1. Very true, but there are people out there who simply prefer official content. I know I've had a mod or two that messed up my game files a bit, so I've been turned off to some of the mods out there. I've got a TON of mods for OFP, but as far as the Arma games are concerned, I have had at least one mod that rendered my single player game unplayable. Some are ok with that, and for a while it did not bother me (MP kicks ass!), but I still enjoy content that is meant to fit with the original product. Yeah... I must sound like a heathen. I love some of the mods out there... I've just always preferred official content. EDIT: That's not to say I don't LOVE the editor and that I never use mods. ;)

Arma 2 Weapon Ranging and Correction Tables

    These tables are amazing! Thanks!

Thank you, B.I.S.; Sign if you agree.

*Sign* I have been playing since OFP, and I never tire of their dedication to their games. :D

    Secret Island In Arma 2!

Hmmm... This is intersting. What scripts were you messing with? I'm wondering if some of the scripts caused this island to pop out of the programming. I have never seen it myself, so I would be interested in how this island seemingly appeared out of nowhere. I can see HUGE potential here!

    How old are Arma2 Players?

I'm 23, and I feel old. I can't believe it! I was in middle school when the original OFP was released! Wow... Look at all that has happened since then.
  6. I would LOVE to see a map based on Afghanistan. It wouldn't just be desert. In fact, Afghanistan has some of the more interesting terrain on earth. There are jagged mountains, desert, farm land, etc. It would really add somethig to an ArmA game.
  7. I don't think I can wait for this to be released! I need it NOW! :D I'm VERY pleased with what I have seen. Thanks BIS for being the true kings of military sims and making such amazing games!
  8. I am hoping for this as well. My only real gripe has been the ability to, "Reload," one time use launchers (I just rationalize it by assuming that the player can carry more than one and they aren't shown). Anyhow, I am VERY excited for the new expansion. It is my hope that this will turn out like the original OFP and get a series of expansions. Hopefully, ArmA 2 and expansion(s?) will occupy their rightful places on my hard drive for a long time to come.
  9. After installing patch 1.03, I noticed something odd. The time compression feature does not seem to be working for me. It worked in the previous version, but it does not seem to be working now. Is anyone else experiencing this? I did a quick glance through the past couple of pages of this part of the forum, and I did not see any similar threads. Is this a known issue? When I hit the time compression key, I get the time compression notification in the top corner of my screen, but nothing seems to happen. My watch does not speed up or anything... Time seems to pass at its normal rate.

    Patch 1.03 suggestions

I always thought that it would be nice to somehow have the ability to run the game in the ArmA I version of the engine. A button in the options menu, or at least the ability to turn the settings down lower for users with low-end PCs would be nice. In short - optimization would be nice. That and campaign fixes would be very nice.
  11. I hate the idea of a ser number of activations for a game. That's the whole reason I bought a hard copy of the game after I bought the Direct3Drive version is because the D2D version has a specific number of unlocks. What if I get a new PC? What if I want to uninstall the game and reinstall the game later? What if I have trouble with my PC, etc.? There are just too many things that could go wrong. If I buy the hard copy, or legitimately buy the game through digital download, I don't think I should be limited to how many times I can install the game. I like the good 'ol CD key and/or the registering for updates (like Stardock does).

    ArmA2 gives me seizures :(

The only thing about your story that I have trouble with is that you remember having a siezure. Generally, people do not remember when they have a siezure.
  13. I just got my copy at my local Best Buy here in the midwest. They have TONS of copies, and I hope they sell well! :D Seriously... It's good to have a hard copy now. I HATE my digital copy.

    Patch 1.02 Satisfaction Survey

There are still some performance issues as well as some campaign bugs. More patches will definately be needed to get this one up and running the way it should. I enjoy it, but the campaign is tough to play. The AI seems decent to me, but there are still some issues with people getting run over. It's ok, but I am REALLY hoping for more.
  15. I found a small bug in the very beginning campaign. When you start the very first mission, I noticed that when you go through your gear, you are equipped with the Russian RGO frag grenades rather than the M67 frag grenades that you should be carrying.
  16. Thanks. I may end up doing that.

    Too few enemy units

You have just inspired me to pick up Operation Flashpoint again! :D
  18. Has ArmA 2 actually been released in the U.S. yet? I have tried to find it at Best Buy, Target, and Gamestop with no luck at all. Was it ever released? I have seen that it should have been released on the 7th, then I heard the 17th, and Amazon.com says the 20th. What should I believe? I simply want to get a hard copy of the U.S. 'GotGame' version. I fear another ArmA nightmare coming on where I purchase multiple copies of the game in order to get the version I want (since I am NOT a fan of downloading my games). EDIT: I have a copy that I got from Direct2Drive, but I am not happy with it (It is quite large, and I can't get it onto a DVD since my compression program doesn't seem to like it). So, I have the rather large game installed as well as an 8.4Gb file sitting on my desktop.
  19. If I remember correctly, BIS is declassifying new info about the factions every week now. At least, I remember reading that somewhere...
  20. Simply put, some people feel the game should be changed to suit them. I dont feel it should be changed to suit them. As you very correctly stated, Good PvP is easy to create via the editor. I object to having the game changed "out of the box" to suit these people and would prefer they played something else as opposed to changing ArmA 2. Eth I see your logic, however I also believe that a balance could be achieved in order to add some variety to the game. However, it is true the coop and warfare scenarios are what make the ArmA/OFP series great, and the last thing BIS should do is cater to the Counter Strike/BF2/Call of Duty PvP oriented fanbase that wants, "Arcady," thrills. ArmAII originated from a military conflict simulator. Those looking for anything other than a simulation should look elsewhere.

    Artillery In Arma 2

I saw something resembling a Katyusha (Stalin's Organ) in one of the videos BIS released this week. Maybe we will get some decent artillary units after all? I suppose they could impliment something similar to the artillary in ArmA warfare, but that system is neither realistic nor is it terribly effective.
  22. What's wrong with warfare PvP? If you can get some good team together, then there's plenty of PvP action to be had. I recall several games where some teammates and I spent HOURS finding and eliminating player controlled squads in warfare games. The beauty of ArmA is that it's incredibly easy to mod, so if someone really wants a "BF2" style sector control multiplayer mode, then it is easy enough to create one. I gotta know... Why do I hear people dropping phrases like, "More like BF2 or COD4." What is this world coming to?! Isn't that the last thing anyone true ArmA/OFP fan should hope for?

    No-Island issue

It's not neccessarily more creative, but it is a simple solution. I'm sure the problem of aircraft could be solved with anti-aircraft fire from Russia in a scripted event that downs the aircraft in question, but then again, that would take some of the fun out of it wouldn't it? To be honest I don't know how it will be solved, but I am sure the people at BIS have some creative solutions.
  24. I scanned the first 20 pages or so of the forum (since it's ridiculously large by now) to see if this has been mentioned, and I did not see any mention of it. I would like the see the ability to fire from vehicles. I can't even count the number of times I was riding in the back seat of a humvee and gotten shot by someone on the other side of the window because I could not raise my weapon and shoot through the glass. The implimentation of the ability to shoot from a passenger position would make vehicles far more useful on the battlefield and create a far more realistic feel.

    No-Island issue

My guess as to how BIS will solve to border problem is to simply have a large wall/fence on the nothern and western borders with Russia. It really can be that simple, and it would be a nice touch to see checkpoint guards from time to time patrolling the border areas. Somehow I think that making the terrain collapse into a flat, endless expanse is far beneath BIS's talents.
