    Ofpmark part deux (ofpmark v2.0)

I decided to start a new thread since the other one is littered with now *invalid* benchmark scores. I thought this would cause confusion. OFPmark is an OFP mission that benchmarks the performance of your machine. For more info on OFPMark see the old thread. The new OFPMark was tested using two different systems, and now takes into account the userinfo.cfg settings. Download the new version and check the readme below: http://toadlife.net/ofp/downloads/missions/ofpmark_2.zip Edit:One extra note. The scores you get on each test will represent the average Frames Per Second you got during the test run. The final OFP mark is the average frames per second for all tests multiplied by 100.

    Ofpmark part deux (ofpmark v2.0)

Ok, it's been 13 years, so I figured I'd post an updated score. HP ProBook 6460b Intel Core i5-2520M CPU @ 2.50GHz 8192MB RAM Intel HD Graphics 3000 Wine on Ubuntu Linux 16.10 (Direc3D) Average OFPMARK: 1302 So apparently computers don't move data around the bus much faster these days. Maybe it'll score better under Windows.
  4. I'd like OFP2 to literly be able to tie itself into the OFP community. The whole mission/addon thing needs to be completely seemless, painless and error free for the many folks who just want to PLAY the game. Imagine this: OFP could have an integrated addon/mission management system that ties into the OFP community and taps into the resources of volunteers from around the globe. People who run OFP websites could volunteer their webspace/server resources to host thousands (or just a few) of the addons that are available. When a mission maker compiles his/her mission, information about the addons used in the mission are stored in the pbo file. When OFP loads the mission, it checks for needed addons and if they are not installed, it connects to one of the participating sites in the community and downloads the appropriate files. A central server (Hosted by BIS) could keep track of each of the voluteer's servers, and what files they host (read: Napster), redirecting people's OFP to whichever server/servers have the files they need. The addons files would be identified by name, and CRC checksum, so there would be no doubt as to wheather or not the proper addon is being downloaded. Possible requirements for a system like this: * When a mission is compiled, the editor would have to do a better job of figuring our what addons are used, by parsing through scripts and triggers to check for "addweapon" type commands. * Addons would have to follow some sort of standard and only be hosted by this distributed system if they met the standards. Just dreaming BIG here.

    Us presidential election 2004

Barring some *massive* counting error in Ohio, it's pretty obvious that Bush is going to win. I'm sure anyone who has taken statistics will agree. Sorry guys. It's four more years of 'dubya' for the world.

    War against terror

Bankrupt America huh? Well, you have to give it to him for setting such lofty goals. So thaaaaat's why Russia economy fell apart! It all makes sense now! That darn "false economy trying to keep up with the U.S. in a massive arms race" theory never did make much sense to me.

    Coon huntng (Raccoon)

Howabout a .22? I hear those work pretty well. Yeah, but the impact force of a .22 is huge compared to a .177 caliber pellet gun. A .22 rifle spits out a bullet at around 1600-2000 fps, and the bullet is much heavier than a pellet. With a .22 a body shot will rip into a coon, and the coon wont have a chance. A .22 is the next ebst thing to a pellet gun. If you insist on using a .22, I'd recommend removing the clip and only chambering one round - force yourself to make a good shot the first time.

    Coon huntng (Raccoon)

As the owner of a Maine Coon mix (thats a cat), I can see the how the cuteness factor would be a turn off to killing them - BUT, for those who live in areas where Racoons live and know how annoying and destructive they can be.... I say - go for it, but don't do it the pussy way. Forget about the dogs for one thing, and don't be a wuss and bring a shotgun or .306 coon hunting. For coon hunting to be a true challege, you need to have the proper equpiment. Here's what to do - go down to your local K-Mart and buy the most powerfull crossman pelet gun they have. Powerline models will push a pellet at about 675 fps. That is just enough firepower to kill a raccon, and other small vermin. Now you'll have a real challenge. A body shot would most like just hurt the coon. The only way you'll be able to kill one is to get a clean headshot - and you'll only have one shot, as pellet guns take as long to load as a breach-loading muskets. I've never Killed a racoon myself, but have knocked down gophers and jackrabbits with a pellet gun. The sastifaction level will be much higher if you use a pellet gun - after all it will be one shot, one kill.

    Goodbye F-14

The F-14 has allways been my favorite U.S. military plane. It's amazing to me that a plane that was first flown in 1970 can (with a compentent pilot of course) still hold it's own against just about any plane on the planet. Here is a page with some good info on the F-14... http://www.aerospaceweb.org/question/planes/q0119.shtml

    Can someone recomend a...

Are you sure? I've flown with other people on the internet with X-Plane version 5.xx, and the current version of X-Plane is 7.61. Anyhow, I would concur that if you want a *real* flight simulator, X-Plane is the way to go. With MS Flight Simulator the flight characteristics are programed into each induvidual plane, with with X-Plane the game just takes the dimensions, and weight of the plane and actually simulates how it would fly. http://x-plane.com/about.html

    Linux, is it worth trying?

Show me an advertisement for software that isn't misleading and I'll show you the secret to world peace. Oracle - "Unbreakable" WindowsXP - "The most secure Windows Operating System Ever" PeopleSoft - "The worlds most flexible and adaptable software" TCO studies are marketing tools to begin with. Either side can take a particular set of curcumstances and show their product to be much cheaper over the other side's product. Everything in that Microsoft ad was *technically* true.

    Linux, is it worth trying?

Apache is not GNU/GPL. It's got a BSD-style license. MySQL is a good example of a "heavyweight" GPL application though.

    Linux, is it worth trying?

There is no hurt in trying Linux, just don't get your hopes up. It sounds like you're looking for an OS that will replace XP. What you will find is that many of the apps you took for granted in XP are simply not available for Linux. Some apps have replacements, but in many cases they are incomplete, or just not as good as their Windows counterparts. On the other hand if really get into it, using Linux can be a rewarding experience, as you will start to learn Unix, which is the basis for every major Operating system today (except Windows or course ).

    Linux, is it worth trying?

It sounds like the makers of that movie you watched had quite the agenda. Actually they bought these things. They didn't steal DOS - they bought it. They didn't steal the Gui interface or mouse system from Apple. The concept of using a computer with a mouse and the GUI interface was around long before Apple or Microsoft existed. If anyone "stole" anything, it was Apple who "stole" the GUI interface from Xerox. I put quotes around stole because I really don't think anyone stole anything. All OS's have the ability to be crappy and unstable. Different OS's just crash differently. Actually, America's Army has a Linux version. I run it in FreeBSD from time to time, but contrary to what some Linux fan boys will have you believe, the Linux version is no faster than the Windows version. Ironically, the Linux version of AA crashes my computer once in awhile, while I've never had AA crash while running it in Windows.

    Windows XP SP2 released

It sounds like you have som services disabled that the update process relies upon. Click on start>settings>control panel>administrative tools>services Turn on the "Crytographic Services" and make sure it's set to "automatic". If it won't turn on then you've got problems with your system. The owners/authors of those XP websites that tell you to shut down all kinds of services to save memory should be bent over and spanked. Blindly shutting down services on your WindowsXP box can make your system faster, but can also make important things from working.

AA uses punkbuster, which I'm pretty sure acts as a server and listens for incoming requests. I would visit the AA forums and find out what you have to do to allow AA to work with SP2.
