    Shooting thru the trees

Are there any news on fixing situations with gunfire in forest areas, where enemy soldiers shoot you through the trees? I just started to replay OFP and found this damn seriously annoying. It just makes game unplayable sometimes. It looks like I spotted enemy running inside forest, he spotted me, I hide in bush or tree barrel, and right after was shot down THROUGH THE TREES which are supposed to be solid enough to stop bullets. I remember it always was a problem, starting from OFP demo and still no solution?

Instead of ``normally``, as i would do in real life, hiding in the forest, this place, forest is the most dangerous, right as opposite. Once enemy spots you, they will shoot and hit you regardless of where you are hiding and whether they actually still see you. Yes. Behind the trees. They will shoot and hit you. You can't. There is no spoon, Neo...

    Shooting thru the trees

That's right. This is long lasting bug. I know, it's not a one step task to implement correct visibility through the trees, but sometimes this bug pushes playability level so harsh, its just boring to go further...

    Shooting thru the trees

It's all right with your answers, all. You're indeed clever, all. I am STILL asking the question about the BUG with shootung through the trees: - if bullets really can penetrate trees, then why NOT MINE bullets? I can't hit enemies through the trees while the do. - if enemies can't see me through the trees then how they aim and shoot through the trees? Mission "After Montignac" is plainly unplayable with this, because it's just useless to hide and to combat in forests.

    Enemy-Friend distinction

I know about LAN parties, that's may be OK for them, but.. Units recognition is a very problematic issue for Interet multiplay. I know you'll say "real life", "see how it is in real life". Don't say that. In real life you probably will not expect untis of your squad riding forth and back on their own like tourists on forrest walk. In real life you will not ever expect your strayed buddy running right in front of you with his rifle in attack position aimed on you. In multyplayer it happens all the time. My man was checking out mushrooms in the nearby forest and when I said everybody stack up close to me, he just started to run right on to us. He got killed. I'm sorry. He could not shout "Don't shoot, it's me, Max!". He could not run with his rifle on back (or he could but 3 times slower than with rifle in hands). And what can you say about snipers? They differ only by their rifles. All I can differ is what that guy 50 meters right is probably East team, because he is with SVD, and this guy near our flag is my sniper because he has M21. When distance is 100, 150, 200 meters I can only detect an anonymous sniper. Abstract one. I'll probably waste my own sniper if he is beyond the level of my recognition. Epecially if he is watching on me through his optics, I guess May be we can invent another side for them? Like if there are "East", "West", "Resistance" ...and "SNIPERS" Their camo fits completely as for East the same for West. In inet MP, sipers must be most hurted units. Nobody trust them because of their ability not to be recognized. "Hey, guy with all that grass shit on head, don't wink to me!" Can we have a better distinction for overall "frienly - enemy" units recognition? This could be a switch in difficulty settings, for example. DA R3AL M3N at LAN parties still can enjoy full masquerade and still try to have more enemies killed than friends, while people on the Net will just have a little better recognition and less comic situations like "- HEY, boss! You just killed ME!" "- Oh sorry, John. I didn't intend that. But why the hell you took russian gun?" That was funny yesterday, when I killed my buddy from 100 meters sprinting in my direction and I said: "No one runs onto me with weapon unholstered and gets alive! EVER!" "Any of you who points rifle to me and runs becomes seagull as fast as I pull my trigger!"

    Great New AA Vehicle

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote (InqWiper @ Feb. 10 2002,20:48)</td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">I think the Vulcan and Shilka are too weak AA vehicles, when I see a Vulcan or a Shilka when Im flying a chopper I mostly blow them up instead of them shooting me down.<span id='postcolor'> I don't know about Vulkan, but ZSU-23-AAA AKA Shilka... It is designed to detect and engage aerial targets on long range. I mean it does not require visible contact. It has complex and sophisticated radar and targeting system and in principle intended to shot at target while it doesn't see who is shooting. Just check indoor of gun target of shilka and check out how much space consumed hatches, levers, gauges an other electronic stuff and add to this Big Drum on top of the turret... And see that main instrument of Shilka's gunner is actually radar screen and direct aiming through optics is in fact secondary / legacy function. Primary mode is smart computer aided shooting. In reality it is efficient weapon. Besides, not only against aerial targets. For me, Vulkan seems just like truck equipped with bigger gun than infantry's machinegun. What actually gunner could see and feel inside Vulkan? How it will detect target? I would agree if Vulkan's main function would be infantry support like role of enhanced M113, but how to compare Vulkan and Shilka I don't know yet. Do anyone have pages about M113 Vulkan? For example, shilka's gun barrels (4 barrels) are liquid cooled. What about vulkan? And mainly, who is targeting guns in Vulkan? I mean in really existing machines.

Bias is calibrated to measure height of a figure 1,8 m (mean human figure height). You fit grounding line of sight with bottom of silouette of your target and top matches to range curve (i.e. that biased line). You get a range mark (one digit) in hundreds of meters. In fact, you could (and indeed, should) measure range before engaging. Just find some suitable figure within designated area of fire.

    Spetsnaz

I remember numerous posts and threads disputing Russian Spetsnaz troops and finally here we are. I occasionally found the whole book dedicated to history and agenda of this entire issue. You can read the facts collected and presented by a man formerly being an insider of different Soviet military circles: Viktor Suvorov. Spetsnaz. The Story Behind the Soviet SAS. I would not recommend to consider this source as Ultimate Truth Disclosure since the author describes facts of secret spetsnaz (external ops/deep recon) and this book is not an official dossier but a very good and understandable glance of his persona. I would underline, though, INSIDER's glance to spetsnaz. That spetsnaz you see in OFP by IMHO better be stated as army recon teams or reconaissanse, since they appear to be on the forward edge in battle and have nothing to do with operations in enemy deep rear or external intelligence / saboteur tasks. Actually maybe sometimes Anyway. A must read.

    Red Hammer: Dark Path

That's just freaking funny, just L. O. L. Imagine youself being resistance leader. Your favourite headquarters, some good old NATO friends - high officers nearby driking beer with you probably sometimes. And what? One night. Besides, your importand friends - NATO officers also squeal like pigs. That bloody fierce bastard took down couple of dozens soldiers and incinirated pack of patrols and then (he? she? He of course says different humbug like "freeze!" or "you die!" or "prepare to meet your destiny!" - just disregard Say: "You know, old friend [relaxed :-) ] we are all betrayed. Aha." "Your reckless comrade Guba presented us with a disgrace" "Come with me, let's brainstorm how to find an exit from this unbeauitiful situation." Camera stop! Scene done. Thank you. Dmitri, you are welcome to dressing room, we got fashionable new uniform for next camera shot. That's it. Amazing mission. Really. Waypoints

Important suggestion to HUD. In cadet mode, when waypoint is displayed, yellow box with text sring is shown on HUD. This is sometimes become very irritating, since it consumes viewable area and prevents every object near it to be seen and/or recognized. Especially when text string is long. When I see yellow "[ ] YOU MUST ClEAR THIS ENEMY AIRFIELD" right onto my sight to an enemy base, I can't see enemy buddies aiming at me and I can't spot anything. This waypoint label is a serious obstacle. And it moves together with my sight not above and not under. Right ONTO the area where I should aim and watch. That's VERY ANNOYING. That yellow label overrides objects, soldiers, tanks, fire flashes, all of it. Don't tell me I can play veteran mode or I can switch "extended HUD" off. I _want_ cadet mode and I _want_ to see my waypoint markers. But NOT _all_the_time_ on top of my sight. I just want to propose good way of displaying waipoints. We could have a key to instantly show waypoint on HUD. Like "show last help". That would be very useful, because noone needs continuous waypoint indication, it's enough to refer orientation from time to time. This functionality may be even combined with that "show last help" key, because last hint and current waypoint are usually related to each. So, while "show last help" key is pressed, we have last help box and waypoint indication. When key is released, that's all gone off sight. Clear view again. Cool. That's the way I would handle it. As by now I am forced every time to open "options -> difficulty" and switch "extended HUD" off when I am blinded by those yellow labels.
