Thanks Bryan. Strange as it is nothing like what the step by step guide says. How may gigabytes are all these files together? Small enough to fit on a DVD?
-
Thanks for the info guys. @Bryan What is the exe called? the sprocket step by step guide says that there will be an installer - the example given is for A2 and it is called arma2eng_102.exe. Does sprocket download a similar installer for A2:OA?
-
Thanks for your reply Laqueesha. The step by step installation instructions on the sprocket site say you launch the installer (arma2eng_102.exe in their example). but the how it works page says the downloader runs the installation? I'm a bit confused - is the A2:OA download going to be the same as it was for A2?
-
Can anyone confirm that it is possible to burn a sprocket downloaded version onto DVD? I don't want to have to redownload every time i want to reinstall. It wasn't clear on the Sprocket site whether this is possible. It says you download sprocket.exe and "When the download is complete, the downloader runs the installation" But does it download a stand alone installation.exe or are you forced to install via the downloader?????

I got the same email form amazon uk. Looks like they are the only ones to have pushed the release date to 2 July. Amazon.de and .com are still showing 29 May. I guess the publisher screwed up.
-
I see amazon.co.uk have put the price up to £24.92 just when I was thinking of pre-ordering! Oh well, I guess I will just wait them out and see if they shift their price back to £20.

Thanks for the update Placebo. -
Problem is in real life your visual acuity is so good you can identify targets from a good distance. Computer games can't emulate this so you are practically on top of someone before you can ID them.So you can't compare computer games to real life at every level.
-
What if the function was changed so that it only IDs targets that have already been identified or are within range i.e. within binocular range/visual range? But a server side setting would make the most sense to me.

@Placebo Thanks for the info. Can you post the feedback from your IT guy when you get it? I know one of the guys on the forum thought it was due to spyware - although this seems unlikely to me. It was strange I had issues with a number of BIS sites not just the forum. -

Were the the forums moved to new servers yesterday? When I tried to access the forum and the Beta patch downloads site I received the following. I also received a message later on saying that BIS was moving to new servers and that my ISP's DNS server cache would take 24 hours to be updated. A number of other forum members seem to have experienced this issue. -

Never mind. -
Good luck. Once you have 1.05 installed. You should have no problem installing the latest Beta patches.
-
You shouldn't need to install a previous version? Just install the 1.05 patch over whatever current version you have. Try this link: http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=8820 This version will patch any version from 1.0 and up to 1.05. System Requirements: * ANY ORIGINAL VERSION OF ARMA 2 from 1.00 to 1.04 (including the Steam version, note that Verify file cache and autoupdate will not work properly until the full 1.05 is also out directly on Steam)
-
Hi Helbert, welcome to the forum. Is there any specific reason you are trying to install 1.04? Have you tried installing the vanilla 1.05 patch? http://www.arma2.com/supply/all-downloads/file/219-arma2update_105.html?lang=en Regarding your problem, I believe beta 59323 was for vanilla 1.02 so you may be patched to too recent a version to let you install such an old Beta.

Same for me. I have reverted back to 63826. The FPS hit and micro stuttering when turning around on the ground were more than I could take. I am getting way more input lag with my mouse using the latest Beta and had to reduce the mouse smoothing. Flight may be fixed, but since the main role of this game is as an infantry simulator I hope BIS sort out the other issues ASAP. -

1.05 vanilla was definitely smoother when on the ground. I got more fps and no stuttering. This latest Beta is great for flying, but not so good when you are playing infantry. I would go as far as saying I really dislike this Betas performance when playing as infantry. I didn't really get much stuttering when flying in vanilla 1.05. Was this really an issue any more? I'm getting a bit worried. the majority of people have voted good performance. For me this beta is taking the smooth performance of 1.05 vanilla and making it near unplayable like version 1.0 was. -

I'm still getting a strange little stutter when moving about on foot. Movement seems less fluid than in previous betas especially when moving forward and strafing at the same time (i.e. forward and left). The stutter is like a strange little surge of movement. Also both my cores seem maxed out all the time. Perhaps the stutter is caused when they both hit 100%? This beta seems to be hammering my CPU. -

I just got the same bug "Error: Device Freed". It was while playing a custom mission on Utes. -

The white texture bug is gone. Nice and smooth when flying. I am losing 5-6 fps compared with 63826 which is a bit of a worry though. I'm getting the same benchmark results as 69645. The best frame rates by benchmark have been with vanilla 1.05. Benchmark 1 with 69782 41-44 fps Benchmark 1 with 63826 45-48 fps system: C2D E6400 @2.68 Ghz, 8800gt (factory overclocked), 2Gig Ram. Drivers tested 196.21 and 197.45. I get about 3 more fps with the 196.21 drivers on both Betas. -
@EricM I was getting a bit jealous of how well the new Beta seemed to be running for you. I'm a bit relieved to tell the truth. Looks like it is similar to what I'm getting then. I was getting reasonably smooth flying with vanilla 1.05 (with a VD of 2000) so I didn't really notice much of an improvement when flying with the new Beta. The one thing I did notice aside from missing textures on the ground was a feeling of clunkiness (excuse the technical term) when moving as an infantryman. It just seemed smoother on the previous Beta and vanilla.
-
@EricM What CPU do you have? I have an 8800 GT with a c2d @ 2.68 Ghz and my fps have dropped by about 5 fps over the vanilla 1.05 with this beta patch? I use a 1600 VD with most settings normal, PP off, AA off and no shadows. It's strange that this beta is having such mixed results.
-
If only that were true. I have a crappy PC and I definitely haven't seen an improvement. :(

Patch 69645 - changes under the hood
stun replied to suma's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - BETA PATCH TESTING
I'm getting the white ground bug on my system - where you can see the tree roots etc. Also A drop in FPS and a strange kind of stutter. This stutter seems different to that which I have encountered previously. It feels like a very quick surge and is evident when using ground units particularly when I'm side stepping and look in another direction to where I'm moving. I don't think I'm imagining it - overall something feels wrong when I'm walking about. I'm using xp sp3, E6400 C2D @ 2.68 Ghz, 2 gig ram, 8800gt (factory overclocked) with 197.45 drivers. Benchmarks Vanilla 1.05 (62017) Benchmark 1 45 fps Benchmark 2 17 fps previous 63826 Beta Benchmark 1 50 fps Benchmark 2 17 fps New 69645 Beta Benchmark 1 44fps Benchmark 2 16 fps My results show that I was getting 6 fps more using the previous Beta. So no gain for me. I'm hoping the loss of fps is down to the bug with the ground. For now I'm reverting back to the previous betas. -
With your hardware you should be getting pretty decent performance. I have lower specs than you and get pretty good frame rates with the latest Beta (i have a C2D e6400 @ 2.68Ghz with 2gig of ram and an 8800 GT). I also get reasonable performance in A2. Try the following: Terrain detail - normal objects detail - normal (high settings can be a killer) texture detail - normal shading detail - normal (high settings can be a killer) post process - low Anisotropic Filtering - high shadow - high (gives better performance than normal - strange but true) anti aliasing - low Also I strongly suggest you download and use kegety's amazing lowplants addon as the shaders for trees in A1 are stuffed and are a massive frame rate killer. http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=2302
