Hi highwayhigh what really got me into the BIS games in 2001 was the open world concept which was completely new to me. The absolute freedom to move everywhere you want was fascinating. A buddy of mine introduced OFP to me . . . I watched him play for 3 hours in a raw without annoying myself. I just stared at the screen eyes, ears and mouth wide open after that I exused myself and went to the next shop and bought it . 8 years have passed since then and I'm still fascinated as I was in the beginning. I'm a so called fanboy cough .. ahhh ... disgusting.LOL I became a member of the forum in 2004 and joined the community. I'm not posting much but always following the news. I have never been part of such a great community before. What drives most of the people here is the passion we have. A lot of talented people are working continiously on new content. Addons - Mods - Missions you name it. The quality is top notch and I'm very often stunned about the amazing work this community produces. My favourite toys are the usermade Islands. I love them and most of them are outstanding. There are people who worked on bringing the old OFP content and Armed Assault to Arma II. There is tons of stuff out there. You can play for years and you never get bored. All Addon Mod and mission makers are the reason that this community survived for 8 years. Due to their constant hard work there's always something new to try that keeps this community together and passionate about ArmA. People over here are nice as long as the rules are followed. Once again welcome to wonderland. stay tuned Kind regards nettrucker

Hello and welcome to the forum. I'm playing BIS games since 2001 and when I first started I had to learn how to play this game and getting used to the fact that the enemy AI is really badass. They kick your butt in a "Detroit second" which I never experienced in other games so far. At the same time the AI sometimes behave also stupid. I'm using a lot of units when making my own missions just trying to simulate battles more up to company size rather than squad sizes. Not withstanding the use of high amount of units i'm fairly able to accomplish the missions because I stay in cover. Just don't give up, in case you get your butt handed over too much, means usually that your tactics might not be the right one to apply. Change tactics and try out different things. If you play it as if you would behave in a real combat situation you will have less difficulties to beat the enemy AI and accomplish the mission. It's the most challenging game I ever played and I'm never getting tired.:D Cheers

How do I make objectives?
nettrucker replied to Solarghost's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
Dear Solarghost I'm unfortunately not able to give you a detailed reply' cause I'm on work. But you could start with following http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=78089 This is a sticky thread with a dozen links with useful editing info Mr. Murrays editor guide which is valid also for ArmA II http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=67426&highlight=Editing+Guide Reading throughout these threads and the editing guide should give you some more info on mission editing. I'm unfortunately busy also this evening RL issues. In case nobody is going to answer, which is very unlikely, I'll try to give some info tomorrow evening. Reading throughout the guide and the links will help to understand the basics of mission editing and keep you busy until someone can help you to solve your problems with triggers and objectives. Kind regards:D -
VFAI - AI Extension - ARMA II
nettrucker replied to VictorFarbau's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Thank you so much. I perfectly understand, time problems are a major issue I suffer myself, not withstanding a weekly planning. Your addon is awesome the only annoying thing I encounter are missing entries in the config bin related to weapons. Handgreandes and some other. Enabling the show script errors I see lot of different minor errors popping up on screen. Nothing serious I guess, because without enabling show script errors everything seems to run ok and no error messages are showing. The biggest show stopper are the missing config bin entries which are popping up once in a while. If you want I took some screen shots of the error messages I receive and I could send them to you in case you need some further info. Thanks again.:D Kind regards nettrucker -
Making AI talk like in training missons.
nettrucker replied to shadowhunter388's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
Except for the briefing wizzard every thing works fine in ArmA II. The briefing wizzard in ArmA edit has become obsolete since BIS introduced a new briefing concept in ArmA II, so therefore it's useless for briefings but all other functions are working. regards -
Music In Chopper
nettrucker replied to warghost20's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
You need to set the trigger condition field to true in order for the music to be heard. Change "this" to "true" in the condition field of the trigger, supposing there's no error in compiling the description ext. it should work. regards -

ArmA 2 Mission Editor Help!
nettrucker replied to Japonaattori's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
Hi there and welcome. how to end a mission? Opfor are the bad guys in this example 1.) Create a trigger around the town Double click the trigger to show the menu Select Opfor and click on the not present tab in the activation field Type of trigger: switch In the on Act. field of the trigger type following ap setTaskState "SUCCEEDED"; end = true; titleCut ["", "Black Out"]; titleFadeOut 20; 2.) Create a second trigger: Select type: end 1 Condition: end give the player a variable name, in this case I named him ap replace it with your player name. ap setTaskState "SUCCEEDED" ----- will tick of your task in the briefing end = true ------ will activate the trigger which ends the mission titleCut ["", "Black Out"]; titleFadeOut 20; ---- will make the mission fade out in 20 seconds and you will come to the debriefing screen. Get yourself Mr. Murrays Armed Assault editing guide here its also valid for ArmA II and that's a well done tutorial which will introduce you to the various aspects of mission editing http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=67426&highlight=Editing+guide Hope that helps.:D kind regards nettrucker -

OFP2 let me down; I'm hoping Arma2 won't be the same.
nettrucker replied to cmberryau's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Hi and welcome. In case you have played the original OFP then you won't be disappointed, 'cause ArmA is the true successor. In case you never played it than take your time to figure out how to play this game. With the latest patch the game runs quite good, although I never had problems running it from the beginning anyway. The campaign has been mostly fixed and before judging you should give it a go yourself first. Don't rely on that matter too much on other peoples opinion . . . it's a personal taste thing. You will never make it right to everybody some like it others don't. The AI still have issues sometimes and there are still some minor flaws. But I can assure you that the enemy is badass. They kick your butt in a "Detroit second" if you try to run and gun. There are some good guides of how to play this game look for shak Tactical in the stickies. when I first started with the old OFP in 2001 I had to learn how to play the game and it took me sometime to figure everything out. I'm playing for 8 years straight without ever annoying me, which happens mostly when playing other wargames. If you understand this game you will love it and become an ArmAholic same as me and mostly all other community members. The BIS community is always active. Talented modders addonmakers missionmakers . . . you name it . . . are constantly working on new content for the game and it's free. The quality is top notch and of very high standards, which is truely amazing. Give it still some time from now and and they will burry you with new content. There is tons of stuff already available. Hundreds of projects WIP. Welcome to Wonderland:D cheers -
specific trigger condition
nettrucker replied to therev709's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
try with triggers. 1st trigger: Condition: ! (alive tm1) onActivation: tm2 say "speech" 2nd trigger Condition: ! (alive tm1) && ! (alive tm2) onActivation: tm3 say "speech" and so on. Do you want to use a custom soundfile or do you use an already existing ingame soundfile? In case you want to use a custom soundfile then the soundfile must be declared first in the description.ext otherwise the game won't recognize it. I don't know how familiar you are with sounds in ArmA especially with custom sounds. In any case there are plenty of helpfull people around to help you solve your problem. The more information you give us the more likely somebody can answer your questions. kind regards nettrucker:D -
missing addon = editor doesen't load
nettrucker replied to caprera's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
Be aware that everytime you use a 3rd party addon and you place it in the editor while working on your mission and subsequently save it, these addons get listed naturally in mission.sqm when saved. Now if you remove the addon and try then to load the mission it comes up with the error message "can't load due to deleted content . . . bla bla bla. The only work around is to remove them manually from the mission.sqs which you did successfully. kind regards nettrucker:D -
Never saw 1 single post of a dev on the CM forums concerning DR. and I was reading for the last 9 month or so.

missing addon = editor doesen't load
nettrucker replied to caprera's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
Yeah the mission.sqm must be checked. If the mission doesn't load and it gives you a error message that the mission can't be loaded due to deletet content than the addon is still listed in the mission.sqm. If you did and intro -outrowin -outrolose then this must be checked too. The mission will load once you eliminated every trace from the mission.sqm. Pay attention to delete anything else, cause this can mess up everything for sure. Before deleting, make a copy of the mission.sqm in case you messed something up by removing the listed addon. regards nettrucker:D -
How to create a trigger wich can ONLY be activated by one unit?

VFAI - AI Extension - ARMA II
nettrucker replied to VictorFarbau's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Dear Victor i'm using your VFAI addon for my current campaign still WIP, it's a great addon the only thing is that I'm having constant problems with script errors and missing config bin classes type hand grenade and so on. I enhanced my ArmA II mod launch Icon with the show Script errors command line and indeed it's giving a whole lot of scripting errors. I installed it just to understand if I would be able to fix them by myself but my scripting knowledge is only basic and I did not mess around with your scripts to avoid messing up things. It's not really a game breaking thing but the missing config bin entries are, because they are popping up from time to time which is quite a show stopper ' Cause they stop the game. You gotta click on the OK button and then you can proceed to play. I downloaded the latest version I could find last week. But I'm still receiving all the errors mentioned before. Is there any chance that this will be fixed, otherwise I'm forced to remove your addon which would be kind of bad, because it's really helpful. If you want I can send you all the error messages I receive in order to understand. best would be if you could also check adding the show script errors to your ArmA launch icon command line. Is there any chance that you could take a look at that problem? Thanks Best regards nettrucker -

Any hints on how to make planes take off from hangars?
nettrucker replied to Rayers12's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
Unfortunately the hangar openings are extremely tight for Aircraft. If you use waypoints than a precise positioning of the aircraft is essential. Not withstanding various attempts the aircraft bumps into front panel of the hangar. My plane starts immediately to turn left. I'm able to get it out of the hangar but it's not a smooth thing since hangar openings are simply a bit too tight. It's maybe a flaw of the model design. I'll try to upload maybe a vid to show what I could achieve, but it take some time. regards Edit: Here's the video. That is best result I could achieve with a lot of tweaking of the initial A-10 position in the hangar. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=haAAsKD4S4k&hl=it_IT&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=haAAsKD4S4k&hl=it_IT&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> -

Issue with putting a group of troops in a chopper

Hi yeah it's sufficient to put that code snippet in the leaders Init field. No need to do that for every unit. -

HOw to get a chopper to land and turn engine off?
nettrucker replied to Splicer's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
If you use a "get out" waypoint over the invisible H object . The chopper is supposed to land and the crew should disembark and switch the engine of. You could try if it works. Unfortunately I'm not able to check before this evening so maybe you could try this approach in the mean time. regards
