I'm almost crying from excitement right now...

I think too the ragdoll implementation is still pretty poor in the alpha so far. I played the Darkest Hour mod for Red Ochestra Osfront no more than a couple of days ago and the ragdoll in that game feels so much better than anything else I've seen playing past years. It's been more than 6 years now Osfront had its commercial release. Right now the ragdoll in the alpha reminds me a lot of Raven Shield... But well it's still is the beginning. The feature is here, they just need to tweak the hell out of it. Same goes with vehicles, they really lack weight...

OFP had a pretty strong PVP scene. There were several world wide competition in CTF. It died out with Armed Assault and Domination maps though...

“CoD has almost ruined a generation of shooter players.
dunedain replied to Cyper's topic in OFFTOPIC - Games & Gaming
This sums up exactly what I first thought when I read about John Gibson's words last thursday. It looks to me that they are in total denial about the fact that the first to give up on RO2 were Osfront fans themselves, me included. Tactical shooters were always a niche genre, COD didn't change that... Asking COD players to help design a game mode for RO2? Oh come on... They fucked up big time, and are the only ones to blame. They just got greedy and also took some very bad design decisions... Sorry but I'ld rather have full body awareness and a dozen of vehicles, rather than a floating camera and over detailed tank interiors that don't benefit the gameplay. Weren't they priding themselves in some interview saying that it took them three months to fully animate a single tank? Meanwhile we're still waiting for a couple of troop carriers... Anyway It looks like Tripwire is too busy making over priced DLCs for Killing Floor. So I guess the only hope for fans of Osfront is to look forward to Festung Europe by the creators of the Darkest Hour 44-45 modification for Red Orchestra. -
In the controls you have a "Adjust" key which is binded to left control by default if I'm not mistaken. You push that key and use the movement keys to adjust your stance.
-
You have a prone lean using the stance adjuster but it's only on the right side. A solution would be to remove that stance, and makes it so you can lean left or side while prone using the adjust stance key and left&right movement keys. Just like you can make a sidestep on either side using the adjust stance key while standing up. Same goes with the low crouch stance which only leans on the right side. They could make it so you use the further crouch on either side only using the adjust key and both side movement keys. This would make it much more natural and faster to use imo.

I think you answered your own question already. Just let the devs implement whatever the hell they want...

MOAR!!!

Israel is a small country surrounded by "enemies". If one day they get invaded even teenagers will have to fight for their lives. As for France, I know for a fact women aren't held to the same physical standards as men from recruitment to training. I don't know what you've been told, but it's probably far fetched from reality. At least from what I've learned during the time I spent in the 28th signal regiment at Issoire for my PMD. If it wasn't for quotas you wouldn't see many women in the military. Simply because very few can meet the basic physical requirements currently expected from male recruits, let alone go through the kind of training combat units get.

Arma 3 (2040) will there be DLCs based on 2000/2010?

Rendering grass at long distances: My thoughts about it
dunedain replied to Elcoo's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
Would be nice too if they put a slider, like for the shadows, to set how far the grass is rendered as well. I may be wrong but I do believe it's been proved over and over that on ArmAII only trees and bushes may provide concealment, not grass. As for ArmAIII, I remember some interview a while ago in which they said the issue wasn't likely to be fixed with ArmAIII. Considering the distances I've seen myself being engaged from by AIs, I think it's safe to say they still see you through grass. I like OP's idea. It remains to be seen if it doesn't stands too much in movement though. -
Working or not yet, I wish they would add a slider for airborne objects.

Concerns regarding ArmA III overall feel.
dunedain replied to Lucso's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
Battlefield 2 has no body awareness at all though. It's just a floating camera like in most shooters. -
Concerns regarding ArmA III overall feel.
dunedain replied to Lucso's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
I really like the new movements so far, a vast improvement over previous ArmA games. It needs some fixes though, for instance how the combat pace toggle sometimes stay on whatever you do or reset itself for whatever reason, or how often you sprint with your head down but the game suddenly decides you're fully standing. There are also the adjusted prone and low kneeling positions which are nice but utterly useless while using cover on your right. Moreover I think too movements are a bit too fast, they should put more stamina and weight into the equation depending on what you're carrying ect... Nonetheless I'm very impressed by ArmaIII Alpha so far, only downsides are the constant crashes and that futuristic theme which doesn't quite suit me. Maybe you should try to remap your keys binded to movements? I only use 5 personnaly. shift to "turbo", ctrl to "adjust", w to "prone", x to "crouch", c to "combat pace toggle", ctrl+x to "stand up" and ctrl+c to "walk or run toggle". As for your other complaint, it's been suggested to add a stance indicator to the HUD on this topic. -
I always supported this idea for Arma2. it's even more important now that you have many more possibilities. For people who really don't like it, I do agree it should be possible to turn off HUD elements though. A good example would be Red Orchestra and its best-known mod Darkest Hour. You can turn off everything and only keep what you deem necessary. [1] [2]

Well at the end of day, even Steam haters will have to admit that, Steam saved the day...

It's the same for everyone I think. I have a friend who've been trying to create an account for a whole hour...

What computing system do you have for the Arma 3 Beta?
dunedain replied to Yett71's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
I initially planned to hold until ArmaIII release as well. My previous comp died last may only after 3 years of services... I spent 650€ for my new computer, (I5 3570k, HD7850 2GO and 8GO of DDR3 1600Mhz), I really hope it'll will be enough to run ArmaIII smoothly with most settings maxed out like I do with ArmaII. :o -
Well... I promised myself I'ld invest into a SSD before ArmAIII's release but the Alpha announcement came totally unexpected and >300GO SSDs are still not worth it for me at the moment. So I guess I'll just keep my computer clean until then... ;)

First time I hear about this... Well at least if ArmaIII uses this we may get some proper rain rendering.

Community interest in Rearmed for ArmA 3 (integration of A2 and OA content with A3)
dunedain replied to OMAC's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
In theory it really sounds nice. Although as mentioned before I wouldn't be too much interested in old content missing all the good features ArmaIII will bring such as custom animations for weapons among other things. If even Arma2 content in Combined Operations is missing features such as proper thermal maps, adjustable scopes, backpacks and so on... It's just going to be worst with ArmaIII. Campaigns and missions were nothing great in the ArmA franchise so far, well nothing close to the epicness of OFP anyway. Moreover the community already made great, often better, islands than the ones shipped with any of the previous games. I remember a similar initiative to port Armed Assault content to Arma2 was made but never completed for reasons I can't remember. -
Project Reality: Arma 2
dunedain replied to A.R.Mageddon's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Those maps really looks wonderful. I'm glad to hear you guys are already working to port PR on the Real Virtuality 4. I really hope the mod will grow much bigger on ArmaIII as well as reach its full potential. :) -

Done. Should be interesting. :) -
Once I got charged twice for a 200€ softair replica of the Galil bought from a Polish website... Took them a whole month to reimburse me. Being a student at the time it was a pretty tricky situation. Things like that happens, when you trust online services with your credit card, but are still pretty rare and usually have a happy ending. You said that I shouldn't say "Steam exclusivity" because people understood it the wrong way as you could only get it from the Steam store. By "stuck in the 90's" I meant that some people here have no clue how the digital market and Steam works. It wasn't meant to be understood literally. Not obvious enough I guess... :p
-
I came to that conclusion reading your arguments because to my knowledge it's always been the publishers who create and distribute keys to the different shops and you seem to think the only key provider in the case of ArmaIII will be Steam. Giving them the role of a publisher. But BIS are the only ones who can create keys. Valve provide the tools to register said keys on their database that will still be owned by BIS until they sell these keys to whatever digital retailer, including Steam itself. Steam make money through their own store and want as many people as possible to adopt their services developers, publishers and gamers regardless. So no, they definitely don't do this for charity. They made a fortune doing this... No offence but I often feel like pissing into the wind on these forums. :p
