Last night we tried 2 of your missions: Operation Hesiod - great briefing and atmosphere (although there are a few spelling mistakes). But we found the "toggle stealth" option confusing (even if I found out what it does afterwards). Above all, the entire mission ended when just 1 of us was killed! Why? I don't think I can remember the last time this happened in a mission. At least give us an option to dis-activate this draconian option (in mission parameter screen?). War Criminal - again great briefing except that we had some weird issues when it came to equipping. However once we were in-game it played really well. That was until we came to actually find the war criminal. We searched the marked building. We couldn't find him. We searched every body to check that it wasn't him. We couldn't find him. We searched every single building in Kreml. We couldn't find him. So it was with regret that we ended that mission. Any idea where he might be hiding? We figured that he could have fled (we didn't secure the only road out of the village) during the fighting. In which case, it would be great to offer an option to return home empty-handed, i.e. you have failed but at least get your team out alive. That would give the players a sense of responsibility and bitterness which could provide essential in a next mission.

Why not try PPAA? Its much more efficient than traditional AA. All you have to do is install the latest beta patch, edit OA's config file, change PPAA=0 to PPAA=3 Leave AA disabled via the in-game menu. Trust me about the beta patch, it won't cause you any headaches because: a) it's just as stable if not more stable than the official patch b) it includes hundreds of bugfixes and optimisations (just check-out the changelog) c) it installs parallel to the official patch, i.e. if you don't like the beta, no need to roll-back

graphics bugs with ATI 4800 series (4850/4870/4890)
domokun replied to fjaekel's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
@liquidcactus: Welcome to the community! I think that you've correctly identified the problem - AA with your 7770. As a 7870 owner, I can recommend a few steps to improve this: 1) Open ATi's Catalyst Control Centre and, under AI Texture Filtering, increase the Quality to High Quality (slide cursor to left). 2) Edit OA's config file (...\My Documents\ArmA2\Arma2OA.cfg), find AToC=7 and change it to AToC=0 3) Edit OA's config file, change PPAA=0 to PPAA=3 4) Set Video Memory to Default, leave AA disabled, increase AF to Very High, set Shadows to High and set Post-Proc to Low 5) Ensure you're running the latest beta patch Together these should help getting the game running smoothly but looking purdy. Let us know how you get on. If you're interested in more tweaks, check-out these tried and tested optimisations: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?85124-ArmA2-OA-%28low%29-performance-issues&p=2081466#post2081466 -
Aha it brings into sharp relief punji stakes used by the VC to maim their opponents. This all sounds brilliant. I can only hope that it's not buggy and/or subtle enough not to unbalance existing missions.

I can't wait to test the next version. Particularly given that yesterday's beta fixes a critical aspect of AI combat behaviour [93670] Fixed: Prone units stop engaging (https://dev-heaven.net/issues/32475)

James: try installing the latest beta patch. Try also the following tweaks: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?85124-ArmA2-OA-%28low%29-performance-issues&p=2081466#post2081466 And let us know how you get on...

Project 82 The Falklands/Malvinas war mod Work In Progress - Pics
domokun replied to cimalex's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
I really hope that you find the right people. It seems like a lot of people have tried to recreate the OFP 1982 magic but often their efforts have been lone efforts, sometimes disparate. I really hope that guys manage to pull this off because this conflict seems well-suited to the RV engine, was momentous militarily and remains significant today. -
Real Life or wot happens outside of Arma ;)

@James: Welcome to the forums! Before offering any advice, it's important to know if you are running the latest official patch (1.60) or are you running the latest beta patch? You can check by looking at the build number displayed in the bottom right-hand corner of the menu screen.

A.C.R.E - Advanced Combat Radio Environment - 1.4 Stable - Release Thread
domokun replied to noubernou's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
My buddy and I are experiencing exactly the same issues, well almost: I: seem to be able to connect fine, except that on checking the log I found traces of the error message "PIPE ERROR: -23". Is this serious? Because TS3 indicates that I am connecting to OA. He: experiences the same error messages in TS3 ("ArmA2 Connected: No") and OA ("Warning: ACRE is not connected to Teamspeak") and yet: a) he has installed ACRE plugin for TS3 b) activated ACRE plugin in TS3 c) his target line seems correct d) he runs @CBA e) he runs both TS3 and OA as Admin So I'm trying to convince him to take up Fruity Rudy's offer (thanks mate) of support via TeamViewer -

Awful texture / LOD pop in, any advice?
domokun replied to Acterveld's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
You could be onto something there. I'd keep Vid Mem at Default, Push Object Detail to Very High and ensure you run the latest beta which includes fixes for correctly detecting VRAM size -

domokun replied to lato1982's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - USER MISSIONS
Although I don't use ACE in MP, most of these missions will play fine with. Same goes for ACRE: A2 CO06 Behind Enemy Lines CO08 Terror from the Seas CO08 Escape from Chernarus CO10 Cipher OA CO04 Attack The Outpost! CO06 Absolutely Sabulous CO06 Call to Glory CO06 Cat and Mouse CO08 =RTY= Immediate Action CO08 =RTY= Delta Force 2 CO10 =RTY= Martyrs Brigade CO10 Cipher: Valleys of the Takiban CO16 Insurgency (IIRC you can disable revive) Although I haven't played them, they all have ACE2 & ACRE support, most of them without respawn: CO14 Zargabad Surgery LIMA mission package by nkenny Operation Sabre Psychobastard's Tactical Coop Missions Let us know how you get on! -

Awful texture / LOD pop in, any advice?
domokun replied to Acterveld's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Yes that's a nice rig that you have there. So you shouldn't be having any performance issues. SSD definitely help in OA, particularly with LoD thrashing. Try these tweaks, in particular the one about getting the latest beta: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?85124-ArmA2-OA-%28low%29-performance-issues&p=2081466#post2081466 And let us know how you get on -
A few questions about the difficulty settings.
domokun replied to jelf's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
jelf: BI really need to add some context-sensitive help, i.e. short descriptions of the difficulty options when you mouse-over. The reason is that the game is complex, the labels aren't exactly intuitive and these options can have a VERY significant impact on the game. Gunso is right, give Robalo's ASR AI mod a spin. It's relatively easy to install and works right off the bat. Just be sure to edit your difficulty settings accordingly as described in the thread. -
Will my PC Run this? What CPU/GPU to get? What settings? System Specifications.
domokun replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Leon86 is right: I'd swap the intel i7-3770 for i5-3570K as it's only slightly slower yet it's almost €100 cheaper (€240 instead of €320) and overclocks nicely (+20%). 16GB of RAM is fine just make sure it's a DDR3. 1 TB hard drive is fine just make sure that its 7200 rpm (not 5400). But your graphics card is rather weak compared to your CPU. I'd opt for a 7850 as it's only €50 extra (€250 vs €200) but offers 30% more performance, 40% if you overclock it to 7870 speeds (which is very easy with Overdrive, ATi's built-in OC utility). ---------- Post added at 08:45 ---------- Previous post was at 08:38 ---------- Nice rig there. Give these tried and tested tweaks a run: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?85124-ArmA2-OA-%28low%29-performance-issues&p=2081466#post2081466 And let us know how you get on. As for your statement "That's the case for 95% of games/simulators", I guess that OA is in that 5%. Look at OFP, 10 years on no-one can run the game with everything maxed. It is just too ambitious a game. It was pretty much the same story with IL-2 Sturmovik, i.e. it was several years before anyone could play that game with all the settings maxed out AND in a busy AND MP environment. Don't believe me, look at it's successor (CoD). Same story. The trick is to be smart, i.e. push hard where you'll get the best return Not push hard everywhere. -
Something I don't understand about the AI.
domokun replied to Jaypaul97's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I'd express reservations about such sweeping statements on such a sophisticated simulator. Particularly from someone with such little experience of the game. I think to really understand and appreciate the game you have to not only have tried scores of different missions, tinkered with mods, better still, used the editor. OA is somewhat like an old sports car, if you get in a just drive it around the block, don't expect to appreciate it's potential. You need to take it out onto a track, several tracks, in different weather conditions and then get under the bonnet. -
A.C.R.E - Advanced Combat Radio Environment - 1.4 Stable - Release Thread
domokun replied to noubernou's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
B1n4ry: thanks but we already checked that last night. To be honest, I'm amazed it's so difficult to setup. It's not like we're n00bs either (I've been playing online for 15 years and work in IT, he has an even "geekier" profile). But after seeing the video and reading the testimonials, I'm determined to get this to work! So I'm open to any suggestions. Is there a log that we can check? -

A.C.R.E - Advanced Combat Radio Environment - 1.4 Stable - Release Thread
domokun replied to noubernou's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
OK now I really don't get it. I installed the previous version of ACRE (v1.4.4?) and couldn't get it to work. So I deleted it and downloaded it from Six Updater; it worked. Happy but frustrated I deleted the Six Updater version and installed it again manually; it worked! Happy but bemused I was about to test it in MP when v1.4.7 was announced. So I updated to v1.4.7 and it worked fine. I was very happy so I called my mate, he downloaded it and ran it. But it didn't work! Instead he was faced with the same error as me; TS3 could not connect to Arma2. In TS3's GUI it displays "ArmA2 Connected: No" and once OA loads a mission displays "Warning: ACRE is not connected to Teamspeak". I don't suffer this problem. So to be sure, I zipped my @ACRE and @JayArma2Lib and sent them to him. He extracted them and ran OA. TS3 still displayed "ArmA2 Connected: No" and OA still displays "Warning: ACRE is not connected to Teamspeak". Do you I really don't understand... Any ideas? -
