    FP : DR - News & Discussion

"Polish the product" means not releasing it in the same state ArmA2 was released in. Polish is good. .

    FP : DR - News & Discussion

There is a substantial number of people who would like to play ArmA2 but can't either because of bugs, lousy performance or the fact that the fucking thing just won't start. To that group of people, tic-tac-toe would be better than ArmA2. The bar has not been set terribly high in that respect.

    Patch 1.05 suggestions

Please fix it such that people with 8gb of ram actually have their vram detected properly and can thus, play the game. I think playing the game might be nice, but I can't be sure.

    ArmA2 8GB RAM Problem

At least that means I don't have to bother patching I suppose. Sadly, shelved until this is resolved.

    next patch? performance?

I would like to take a moment here to formally apologize to the community for my harsh and callous "cheese sandwich" post in the thread above. Judging by the reaction I've received from various parties this sort of comment is definitely not welcome here, nor should it be. I realize I have far overstepped the boundries of good judgment and common decency, but I do hope that my bitter, hateful "cheese sandwich" comment is taken in the context it was intended. This, as a subtle poke at all the things people are asking for in the next patch. "Why not ask for a cheese sandwich too?" I posited, and said so. What was sent as a simple commentary on the needs and desires of the community, arrived as a bitter and foul rebuke against all forum members, BIS and humanity in general. Dear God, what have I done? That I so poorly misjudged the delicate sensibilities of all involved, points to a willing sense of malice on my part and clearly I should (and have) been censured on the matter. For my part, I swear before God that I shall never even so much as contemplate the mention of "cheese sandwiches" here again, nor shall I make any attempt at being subtle. I do hope this apology was helpful in this most dire of matters, and would urge all so offended to quite simply lighten the **** up. Thank you.

    next patch? performance?

The ability to properly detect video ram on 8gb+ (system ram) rigs would plug a small hole in an otherwise leaky boat.
  11. If you are using Vista or Win7 there is absolutely no need for a third party defragger. They helped a bit on XP and certainly on older operating systems, but at this point they are hold overs still peddled by snake oil salesmen. Totally unnecessary.
  12. I'm not going to go as far as to say they don't know what they're doing, but I'll agree that some sort of "official" comment on this would be both wise and appreciated.
  13. This thread needs continual bumpage.
  14. When I had Win XP 32bit and 2gb I had SLI working with 186.18 (and the SLI fix) and in 190.38. Now with Win7 64bit + 8gb, no go in a lot of ways.
  15. As I mentioned in your other thread, I believe those numbers are bits not bytes which means ArmA2 thinks you have 255mb of vram, which is better than 2mb but of course not exactly optimal. I have the exact same problem, and nearly the same numbers in my CFG file... all related to having "too much" RAM apparently. I don't get stutters from is so much as a complete crash after 10 or 15min of play. It's basically forced me to shelve ArmA2 until a fix comes along. Very frustrating.
  16. I believe those numbers are in bits not bytes, meaning it thinks you have 255mb of vram. I have the same problem.
  17. I had the exact same experience mentioned upthread, SLI worked wonderfully and provided a great framerate boost in XP 32bit but it doesn't work at all in Win7 64 bit. As said, this may very well be a driver problem more than an ArmA2 problem, but who knows. That said, with 8gb of ram ArmA2 still incorrectly detects my video ram and only gives me 255mb of the 512mb is should be detecting (dual 8800GT's in SLI). Yes, I've tried everything. No, nothing works. I've put ArmA2 completely aside until I come across a fix for this, which I suspect is going to have to come in a future patch.

I refuse to get sucked into this aside from saying that I'm almost 100% certain I have hard drives older than you.

It has aspects that are absolutely broken for some people yes, but a lot of good points too that no doubt make it worth sticking with. Whether sticking with it means continuing to struggle to make it work, or as with me just waiting for a new patch and hoping... that's up to you. I don't have the energy to screw with it anymore, and I am very hopeful the next patch sets things right. Last kick at the can in my eyes, so I hope they kick the hell out of it. :)
  21. For the record, with all 8GB system ram in place and no -winxp switch on the shortcut the CFG shows my localvram at 3mb when set to "very high". Three megabytes. Tell me something isn't busted.
  22. It's amazing how well you can sort out computer troubles so easily, while clearly knowing nothing of the fellows problems nor his system aside from a single forum post. My system is rather mightily overclocked, and I get CTD'd and BsoD's too, and I get the same problems at stock speeds. Guess what? That's not the problem!
  23. That first mouse lag poll left out an option for people who do not experience mouse lag at all. This poll includes such an option. Vote.

At this point I'd be content with lousy frame rate, but I can't play longer than 10 min without texture corruption and a crash. That's the difference with my situation anyway.
