I'm confused about the story in the Apex Co-op Campaign (Spoilers)
lehr replied to Dyllistan's topic in ARMA 3 - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
Based on my very vague memories about this campaign several years ago, probably not accurate. And some portion of the official campaign plot need player to use imagination based on common sense because the Bohemia didn't express clear. Based on their way of express the story, we can only know the info from one side which make things more fun to me. 1. NATO's main force is focused on south china sea, directly against communist china undefendable territory, running counter cyber operation currently, so they think Horizon Island is just a distraction to NATO at the moment. But it could be a good bait to draw the Chinese to the far south Pacific, almost exceeding their supply limits. NATO have several traditional naval base in the southeast Asia which could choke the Chinese supply line all the way down to the south. Tanoa is a good battlefield to drastically deplete the Chinese if NATO establish a good relationship with syndikat, we could wait the weak Tanoan gov turn to Chinese and Chinese investment come in drastically, then support the local militia or warlord with large amount of weapon, fund, intelligence, adviser, special forces, etc, with cooperation of NATO naval force, if so NATO could easily recreate the worst situation to the Chinese just like we did to the imperial Japan in 1943, we could make not only the Tanoa, but also the whole supply chain deep down to the south become a years long nightmare to the Chinese, it could even turn the tide of the new cold war against CSAT, as CSAT's core power China being tied down to the South Pacific and decisively depleted. So I think it might be a bad idea to hype the Chinese presence on the island after the grab of the EastWind device. It's bad for NATO only see Tanoa as a distraction or just push Chinese back in the short term of time, it means NATO would lose a tremendous opportunity to decisively deplete the Chinese and meet more fierce resistance at their main strategic direction in the future. 2. Maybe it was syndikat who captured Miller and the raider rescue him before syndikat could finish the transfer. And Yeah, there is no reason for Chinese to transfer a high value NATO spook to the local warlord. 3. Clearly Miller's team (could be CTRG 14th regiment) has higher or equal affiliation than the Northstar Actual inside the NATO system, they might directly affiliate to the NATO central command which is not very realistic, no matter how high of the confidentiality, the special operation must through chain of command of theater and cooperate with them, which wouldn't keep Northstar Actual in the dark, especially Miller is affiliate to the CTRG and CTRG rely on ordinary branch support. 4. The Tanoan government officially has alliance relationship with NATO, so the CSAT intervention especially the subversion operation must go stealth. It's easy to understand. And a local warlord is a perfect entry point for the foreign intervention force which has their own spheres of influence could cover some mysterious activities and the Viper pioneer unit. 5. Chinese could test The EastWind device in the Seismic zones beneath the south Pacific, continue the experiments which been sabotaged by CTRG 14th regiment under Miller's command on Altis Island. Second, they could make use of the earthquake and the syndikat riot to subvert the pro-NATO government, in the meantime provide the pretext of Chinese aid to the Tanoa to further damege the Tanoan alliance with NATO and strengthen the Chinese strategic presence just like what they did in Africa and Middle East in reality under the name of so-called Belt and Road Initiative. 6. We didn't know why Chinese fold the operation exactly, maybe they collect enough data of the earthquake, maybe their negotiation with Tanoan government has huge progress and Chinese covet the larger influence of the Tanoan gov and decide to turn to work with government, maybe they sense the double-cross of the syndikat. Nonetheless the syndikat double-cross still didn't happened in mission 5. And if you watch the intro animation in misssion 6 you would know that NATO were also surprised about it. The battlefield shows that the double-cross didn't take place too long before the NATO invasion in mission 6 and it happened when Viper just begin to fold the operation. I personally don't think there has any obvious plot holes. James survived just a little bit exaggerated but this is it. Follow by canon ending, NATO expedition force must restore the order after AAF surrender and CSAT retreat, then James could be retrieve by NATO patrol or passerby civilian in time, and maybe his condition was not that bad. Miller didn't being on the Altis and Tanoa at the same time. The Apex protocol happened in the year of 2038 which has 3-year time gap between the Altis Incident, following the canon ending which Cpl.Ben Curry disregard James on the radio and CSAT invasion didn't take place. And the NATO support DID happened! Remember that helicopter provide close air support in your final push towards the Eastwind device? And the warning intel of the Viper final counter attack? NATO also provide the extraction helo in the end. The theater support often come auxiliary. The ordinary unit not always appear, it depends on the situation. In most scenario like this the SOF can finish the job independently, so they only provide intelligence, logistic, CAS or QRF. And I don't think Northstar Actual mentioned that he gonna bring "soldiers" to the field, he only mentioned NATO assets will be standby for support.- 1 reply
