Editor : How to place units on the top floor of a building?
Agent_Orange posted a topic in ARMA 3 - PORTS
Hi all, I am new to the ARMA series and cannot work out how to add units to the top floor of a building. When looking at a building on the Editor map all I see is a big grey area with no details of the rooms inside or the floors that it has. So, when I add a static weapon it always is placed on the ground or ground floor when I actually want it to be placed on the top floor, overlooking something. Can someone please tell me or point me to a tutorial that shows how to add units to buildings that have more than one floor, say a Cargo Tower or Cargo Post for example and have those units show up on the top floor and not on at the base of the tower, on the ground where they are useless. Thanks for any assistane that can be provided.- 3 replies

Hi Shamrock1916, The Mac version is the same as the Linux version in that they are both considered complimentary to the main (Windows) version. You can find more information here : http://dev.arma3.com/ports You chose, I would assume that a higher percentage of the sale goes directly to Bohemia as they do not need to pay Steam a commission or something similar for selling their game on their behalf. Currently, Mac & Linux users are running version 1.42 of the game and do not have access to the BattlEye anti cheat system meaning that the Multiplayer aspect of the game is almost unaccessible to them (very few servers running version 1.42 of the game, even less that do not require BattlEye). However, this may change in the near future as Bohemia are currently testing an updated version (1.54) of the game and are in discussions with BattlEye in relation to bringing it into play for the experimental ports : http://dev.arma3.com/post/sitrep-00137 If I were you I would wait a couple of weeks until the ports have been updated to version 1.54 and to also to see if it is going to be possible to introduce BattlEye to the ported version of the game.

ARMA mission editor newbie with a few scripting questions
Agent_Orange posted a topic in ARMA 3 - MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
Hi all, I am a Linux user who is new to the ARMA franchise. I have been having a crack at putting together a simple, vanilla mission whilst waiting for the game to be updated from version 1.42 to 1.54 and am wondering if someone could help me sort out a few issues I have encountered during testing. 1. I found that 2 missiles from a chopper will take down a Military Cargo Tower. I can't have that and am wondering if there is a script to make a building indestructible? 2. Is it possible to restrict the use of artillery, so the Scorcher, Sandstorm and mortars are not available? 3. AA units that I have placed on the side of a mountain do not change weapon and fire when an enemy chopper flies past. Is there a script that forces them to use the AA missile launcher as their primary weapon AND actually fire it when an enemy air unit flies into range? 4. I have a speedboat on patrol and would like it to refuel/re-arm when the patrol is complete. I am having difficulty in getting the boat to manouver alongside the pier where I have a Taru fuel pod and 2 boxes of vehicle ammo stationed using the "move" waypoint. ( I could probably get it so that it works with more tweaking and previewing but am hoping that there is an easier way or some kind of "refuel" option). 5. Finally, could someone please tell me if the mission I am creating using version 1.42 is going to transfer successfully to version 1.54 when my version of the game is updated? Thanks for any assistance that can be provided. -
ARMA mission editor newbie with a few scripting questions
Agent_Orange replied to Agent_Orange's topic in ARMA 3 - MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
Thanks Avibird, For me it is a game. So far, none of answers or suggestions that people have posted work, not one. I appreciate what you and the other people who posted here have tried to do (i.e simply lend a hand, answer a question). The ARMA community seems like a good one. If I ever get to play the multiplayer aspect of this game and see you around - I will be sure to stop and say hi. Thanks again and all the best. -
ARMA mission editor newbie with a few scripting questions
Agent_Orange replied to Agent_Orange's topic in ARMA 3 - MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
Thanks whiztler, I gave it a try, the laptop is hovering approx. 10-15cm above the desk.....lol...this Editor is like using some kind of electronic witchcraft - who knows what the hell is going to happen when I invoke one of these scripts......"All I wanted to do was get my unit to stand in a relaxed manner but when using the script for that it changed into a Balrog armed with a flaming sword" So, I checked the link that you provided to see if I can figure how to adjust this myself...... Unfornately I cannot as I do not understand the description or the math behind how it works, it might as well be a code to launch nuclear ballistic missiles from a submarine located near the coast of Siberia. Further reading from the link I came across this post from a chap who calls himself "teaCup" I will use "Objects [small]" when I can just drop the item on the ground, like a water bottle next to a unit that is manning a post for now. Thanks again for offering some help. -
ARMA mission editor newbie with a few scripting questions
Agent_Orange replied to Agent_Orange's topic in ARMA 3 - MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
Hi f2k sel, thanks for your help. Yes, all of the scripts that I have used so far have been run from the init. box. I do not want to get too caught up on the "sitdown" script as I was only testing that to see if i can get animation scripts in general to work but can see that this is a good one to use for your example. Ok, well, that helps me a lot as quite a few scripts that I have attempted to use simply have not worked and left me scratching my head as to why. I may have to ask someone from Bohemia this question..... Does anyone remember using version 1.42 and if so, can you tell me if "Objects [small]" was new at the time and not finished or working correctly. The reason that I ask is that I am finding it impossible to place some of the items like a laptop, pc monitor & keyboard on a desk located inside a Military Cargo Tower. I select "flying" under the "special" tab, however, no matter what elevation I set the object to (everything else like ammo boxes are set to an elevation of 15 metres and are working fine) the monitor sits half way through the desk and falls over and the keyboard simply falls straight through the desk and onto the floor. I get the same result if I attempt to place a can of Franta on the desk and even changed the desk to a Camping Table, same result. Anyone got an ideas on this one? -

Thanks for taking the time to lend some assistance jshock, I appreciate your help. I did see something about using the following script....this disableAI "ANIM"; in Mr Murray's guide for stopping an AI unit from reverting back to its normal animations once the scripted animation has been completed. I will continue to do what I can with my mission and see what else I can find out whilst waiting for some help to sort the issues out. Thanks again and have a great weekend! -
ARMA mission editor newbie with a few scripting questions
Agent_Orange replied to Agent_Orange's topic in ARMA 3 - MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
Thanks for your help jshock, I checked to make sure that I had copied everything correctly.......this action ["sitDown",this]; (The example from the link that you provided has a lower case letter "s" for sitdown.) But like most other scripts I am trying - nothing happens - does not work. So far, the only scripts I have been able to use succesfully are... This setunitpos "middle"; to set the stance of the unit to crouching. this setVectorUp [0,0,+0.1] to make a building sit level on uneven ground. ClearWeaponCargo this; ClearMagazineCargo this; to clear an ammo box of all weapons and ammo this addMagazineCargoGlobal together with the name of the ammo, in my case the 5Rnd_127x108_APDS_Mag Everything else I have tried simply does not work for some reason with the exception of Waypoints. With the waypoints I can have the unit walk in a "relaxed manner" with weapon lowered by his side, however, if I try to make him do that when standing idle with this script "this setBehaviour "SAFE"; , nothing happens, it does not work. As far as I can see that is the script to do just that so have no idea why it is not working for me. With that example I am trying to have a Helicopter Pilot & Helicopter Crew standing near a Kajman, but relaxed and as though they are talking to each other rather than being on alert with weapons raised. Thanks again for your help. -
ARMA mission editor newbie with a few scripting questions
Agent_Orange replied to Agent_Orange's topic in ARMA 3 - MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
Ok, I have looked through Mr Murrays guide and found it to be very useful in helping me with some apsects of editing and that it will be a good resource to have on hand. One thing that is still bugging me is unit animations, I simply cannot get them to work. I tried this script from Mr Murrays guide to attempt to have a unit sit down........ this playMove "AmovPsitMstpSlowWrflDnon"; That did not work so I tried...... this switchMove "AmovPsitMstpSlowWrflDnon"; This did not work either so I tried giving the unit a name first...... Unit1 playMove "AmovPsitMstpSlowWrflDnon"; and again with....... Unit1 switchMove "AmovPsitMstpSlowWrflDnon"; It seems like a simple enough command to execute , I really do not understand why it does not work for me - I have followed the instructions verbatim from the manual and no joy. -

ARMA mission editor newbie with a few scripting questions
Agent_Orange replied to Agent_Orange's topic in ARMA 3 - MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
Thank you very much for taking the time to lend a hand whiztler. I am not able to use the script for the buildings, each time I hover the mouse over the name of the building and double click it brings up my last action (in this case , a vehicle ammo box) and not the building itself. Seems like the buildings that are already placed on the map are locked - cannot edit them. If that is the case, it is pointless proceeding with my mission - too easy to wipe out a building that has a lot of units and eqiupment stored in it. In respect to the AA units - the guy just sits there with his Akiba - does not change to his AA Launcher and therefore , does not fire at the enemy chopper as it passes - not sure why that is. I am going to assume that when you say " I would fake it" that AI do not need to refuel/rearm vehicles. One more if I may, do you know how to get a unit to stand in the "careless" or "safe" position, the stance where they have their weapons lowered and look relaxed? I found this script.....this setBehaviour "SAFE";......however it does not work when I use it - only seems to work on waypoints when they are moving somehwere. Thanks again for your help. -
Just so I am clear on this, would I be correct in thinking that unless BattlEye anti cheat is incorporated into the experimental ports it is not going to matter that those ports have been updated to version 1.54 , both Linux and Mac users will still not be able to make use of the Multiplayer aspect of the game as most, if not all servers require that you have the BattlEye anti cheat system in order to play on them?
-
I was looking forward to this until I saw all of the complaints relating to the new fatigue system......Bohemia, could you update the experimental ports to version 1.52 and leave those clowns who chose to use a bloated toy (aka Windows) with version 1.54 and that new fatigue system of yours (a suitable punishment for being so foolish) :) Thanks!

Can a Linux user download and play any of these missions?
Agent_Orange posted a topic in ARMA 3 - USER MISSIONS
Hi all, I am new to the ARMA series and was wondering if, as a Linux user who has version 1.42 of the game, would I be able to download and play any of the user missions that have been created? If so, what do I need to look for - same version number? Here is an example of a user mission that i would like to play but do not know if it will work given I am running a Linux OS : http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?155118-Death-Match-4-Players-AI Any clarificiation on User Missions and whether or not they will work with a Linux OS running this game would be really helpful and appreciated. Yes Vasily, version 1.42, hopefully being upgraded to 1.54 when BIS stop stuffing their faces and bellies with Christmas cheer and get back to work :) I looked into what VYSNC is and found that it helps in either eliminating or reducing tearing - some people seem to have all kinds of weird and wonderful ideas about what it does but if you can disable it without tearing becoming an issue then it is reccomended that you do so. I had to make use of the auto detect feature again as disabling anti aliasing etc actually made the game look horrible - sharp edges everywhere, things like telephone/power lines looked bad. The only features that I have disabled now are the VSYNC option and I have lowered the setting for clouds (who cares what they look like). I am now recieving 40 FPS (down from 56) which is fine for me - it is not like it is a fast paced, twitchy style shooter. I like the game to look as good as possible - even if it means losing some FPS in order to do that.
-
Hi Vasiliy.B, Thank you very much for taking the time to help me out. Trying some of the suggestions that you made has produced some interesting results, for example , disabling VSYNC increased the FPS from 30 to 56. I was not able to switch the texture to "very high" as I do not have that option, only "standard" or "low" for some reason. I have disabled FSAA & ATOC but have PPAA set to "Ultra" as I found that this feature seems to help with making things look a little smoother , at least to my eyes anyway. Aniso Filtering has been increased from "High" to "Ultra" however I cannot see any difference. At this point in time I am not able to play online with this version 1.42 of the game that I have so am not really concerned about visibilty so much and have set that to 2200 for "Overall" and 1800 for "Objects" This may be something that is specific to Linux but I do not see a tab or anything that says "parameters" when launching the game. What I do is use a tool called "indicator_cpufreq" to adjust the performance level of my CPU from "powersave" to "performance" and that's about it - no messing about with memory, vram or anything like that. Again, thanks for taking the time to offer some help!

Hi Man-in-Combat, I have a similar set up to yours..... OS = Linux Mint 17.2 (Rafaela) CPU = Intel i7 - 4770 @ 3.40GHz GPU = Asus/Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 I used the auto detect feature for the video settings and this is how it turned out : General Sampling = 100% Texture = Standard Objects = High Terrain = High Shadow = High Particles = Standard Cloud = High PIP = High HDR = Standard Dynamic Lights = High Visibility Overall = 2200 Object = 1800 Shadow = 100 Display Display Mode = Fullscreen Resolution = 1920x1080 (16:9) Aspect Ratio = 16:9 Wide VSYNC = Enabled Interface size = small Brightness = 1.0 Gamma = 1.0 Postprocesses Bloom = 100 Radial Blur = 100 Roation Blur = 100 Depth of Field = 100 Sharpen Filter = 100 AO = HDAO Low Caustics = enabled Antialiasing FSAA = 4x ATOC = All Trees + Grass PPAA = FXAA Standard Aniso Filtering = High FPS = 30 I don't know what a lot of this means (e.g PPAA, ATOC, PPAA, FXAA are all meanginless to me) and therefore do not know whether I am getting good results or poor ones. The fact that it is showing an FPS of 30 seems to indicate that all is well, however, I would like some assistance from someone who knows about these technologies to see if I can tweak or adjust some settings to get better performance from my GPU. The only thing that I currently do is make use of the "Powermizer" feature found in the "Nvidia X Server settings", I simply switch it from its default setting of "on demand" to "performance".

Editor : How to place units on the top floor of a building?
Agent_Orange replied to Agent_Orange's topic in ARMA 3 - PORTS
Thanks very much for your help SavageCDN, I have found that a good height to place units on the very top level of a Military Cargo Tower is 18 metres and have been able to squeeze a IFV-6a Cheetah on top of a Military Cargo HQ (using a height of 3 metres). You are right when you say that you will need to do a lot of previewing - I think it took about 6 attempts to place one raised static HMG in exactly the position that I wanted it. Thanks again for your assistance.- 3 replies

Where do you find APDS ammo for the GM6 Lynx please?
Agent_Orange posted a topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Hi all, I am a Linux user and as such, am new to the ARMA series of games. I am using the editor to create a mission and was wondering where i would find the APDS ammo for the GM6 Lynx as I cannot see it in the "Basic Ammo" box, cannot see it in the "Special Wepaons" box that Lynx came in and do not see any other type of ammo box that it might be in? Also, I am having trouble finding the "Cargo Tower" and "Cargo Post" buildings in the editor. Thanks for any assistance that can be provided.- 13 replies

Success ! Thank you so much for your help Maquez ! Following your instructions I have been able to successfully add APDS to an ammo box as well as the unit that I play. Boy oh boy wowoee - GM6 Lynx together with APDS ammo is the closest thing to a legimate cheat you will ever see in a game (i.e I dont have a cheat that allows me to see through walls , but I do have a gun that will shoot through them - and thats just as good!) Thanks again for your help.- 13 replies

Virtual Ammobox System (VAS)
Agent_Orange replied to tonic-_-'s topic in ARMA 3 - MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
Thanks for your help M0nkey, Unfortunately the information provided makes no sense at all to me (sorry but I was looking for instructions rather than an explanation). So far, trying to use this VAS system has left me with nothing but a headache - I can't even add some APDS ammo to an ammo box - so, instead of wasting any more time on it - I will give it a miss and see if one of the other systems is a little easier to work with. Thanks again for taking the time to help me out. -

Agent_Orange replied to Agent_Orange's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Thanks for taking the time to help me out Perceis, Unfortunately it does not work for me, there is plenty of space in the ammo box (only approx 1/4 full). Using the above mentioned commands does not remove or add APDS magazines for me. This would have to be one of the simplest, straight forward things to do with this game and it just is not working for me for some reason - I give up - not wasting any more time on it. Thanks again for all help that has been provided.- 13 replies
