  1. Hi Folks,

Brand new around here - anxious to try this script...

I believe I performed the install correctly...

No, but here is a five step guide to using it:

    • Open a new mission in the editor and save it
    • Put the script in the mission folder
    • Place a group (F2) near a building
    • (Optional) Make the group leader the player
    • Copy this into his init:

I placed the SQF in the following directory: C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Arma 3\Missions

*** I saved the mission PBO file to the same place...

I added a group near some buildings and added the code 0 = [getPosATL X, units X] execVM "Zen_OccupyHouse.sqf"; to the team leaders "Initialization" field...

ERROR: Is whenenver I run the mission - it starts off with an error stating "Zen_OccupyHouse.sqf" not found...

Any ideas ??? I'm sure I must be doing something wrong...

    Thanks...

    Regards,
    Scott

  2. Hi Folks,

Been working my way through my first mission creation - now with the Arma 1 Editor Guide in hand... Question - is there an easy way to get a result screen when exiting a mission with what actually happened ??? Meaning number of KIA, MIA, Wounded for each side so you have some idea as to how you faired ???

    Thanks...

    Regards,
    Scott

  3. Hi Folks,

    Custom load outs

Brand new to Arma and making missions... Thank god I found your realistic content as opposed to the vanilla stuff which wouldn't hold my interest for long... Lov'n every RHS minute of it... So I'm working my way through my first mission creation - with the detailed Arma 1 guide in hand and playing around with the editor - I've found examples and made a very simple script to add NVG's to a unit... It seems that Arma doesn't have any tool to make custom load outs easy and user friendly... While not an expert - I am familiar with programming and from what I've found in order to "script" custom load outs - you need to know the "name" of each piece of gear... So my question is - is there a list of the official names for each piece of RHS content published somewhere - so I can use scripts to modify load outs ?

    Thanks...

    Regards,
    Scott

  4. Hi...

    Thanks for responding...

I looked in that post you mentioned for guides... I checked the WIKI and tried several searches - I couldn't really find any detailed information in the WIKI - even after registering an account... Would you have a link to the parent of the editor section for Arma 3 ???

It also mentioned older guides - for Arma 2 -  is that what I should really be checking ? Are the changes between Arma 2 and Arma 3 editors significant ?

    Again - thank you...

    Regards,
    Scott

  5. Hi Folks,

While I'm sure it's been done already...

OK - while very new to Arma (a couple weeks) - I worked my way through building a basic ambush mission over the weekend - my very first mission - very loosely based on Operation Anaconda type mission... It's based on the Takistan map set in the pre-dawn hours and - to me - seems pretty immersive so far and I'm actually quite pleased... It's entertaining to just sit on a mountain top and watch the AI duke it out... Basically - it loads two Chinooks up with Army BLUFOR at an airbase - transports them to an objective in the mountains - lands - unloads - and - has them attack the objective while the Chinooks provide CAS... Those mini-guns are devastating tools even on lowly Chinooks - what a light show... The OPFOR (ISIS) was ready with a trap (Triggers) that is sprung when the Chinooks are at their most vulnerable - while landing... They open up with everything they have including a few AA assets... It's nice how it never plays out exactly the same - sometimes the helo's make it - sometimes I lose one - others I lose both... LOL - the first time I saw my Chinook hit and explode in the pre-dawn light - I swear I had a knot in my stomach - and the thought "we just lost the initiative"... So as the attack progresses - the besieged objective is reinforced by two different groups in pickup trucks from different directions... They arrive after the Chinooks left and press the attack... Even though my troops are surrounded and outnumbered - they win more often than not - mainly due to the mini-gun support...

    So - now my questions...

I can't seem to get a helo to land on top of the mountain - they only seem to work in the valleys - I even put down an invisible helo pad and the terrain seems plenty smooth and level... Is there anyway to know where a landing will work and where it will not ?

I can't get the OPFOR to really take cover - they stand out in the open and get decimated by the mini-guns a little too easily - even in stealth mode... There are enterable buildings at their base - however - they almost never go in them... I did learn that the buildings should have predefined points for AI - but the selection never seems to come up on my "Move" waypoint... I have the troops outside and the first move is onto the dark grey representing the building - still no joy - the interior locations are never shown... Any ideas on how I can get the AI to occupy the buildings to preserve some of their force until the Chinooks leave ?

Triggers - how high in the vertical - does a trigger trip ??? The trap is being sprung while the helicopters are still a hundred feet or so off the deck...

Seems we always hear about caves in real world events - are there any caves on these maps ?

Is there a way to "spawn" additional enemy AI at a specific location - in a controllable manner ? I had thought I could have them "materialize" after the Chinooks leave as if they were hiding in a basement or something...

Is there a way to "fast rope" troops off a helicopter ?

Is there a listing of the differences in "Waypoint Types" - some seem self explanatory - others not so much...

I found some posts - and it seems the BI methods available to custom "equip" troops is pretty archaic - I added some NVG goggles in the script box for the unit - seems painful for complex edits... Are AI blind in the dark without NVG's on dark nights ??? In fighting groups - not equipped with NVG's - would they have any alternate means of lighting the area - such as flares ???

Any help - guidance - or tips appreciated...

    Regards.
    Scott

  6. Hi Folks,

Still very new at ARMA - though I've played MOH, AA, and BF multiplayer before... Is there a good server where I can start familiarizing myself with multiplayer - you know - where I can just mess around and not interfere with anyone - but might have a few other people in a similar circumstance ??? I'm only interested in realistic gameplay  - and - I have the RHS mods loaded - but - I have to start somewhere... I guess I need TeamSpeak as well - I've never played with voice comms before - well except with VATSIM... Appreciate any help...

    ;)

    Regards,
    Scott

  7. Hi Folks,

While brand new to Arma - I'm not brand new to FPS... I've been working my way through the first vanilla campaign and the CIWS analogy seems appropriate - LOL - and funny... I'm a huge fan of "realistic" and the AI seems to be super human unbeatable... I've noticed some mods in the lib to adjust the AI - do any of these work well ??? I've also tried adjusting the skill level in the settings - didn't seem to really change anything...

The videos look MUCH better - and - nothing like my experience so far...

    Regards,
    Scott

  8. Hi Folks,

Sorry - total newb to Arma - I was pointed in your direction and I like what I see... I read the pages on your forum and it mentioned the "Updater" was the preferred vehicle to install RHS - however - I couldn't find a README or install instructions on your site... I unpacked the "updater" file to their own respective directory on my desktop - then clicked the executable... Nothing happened - I'm assuming they might have to be placed in a specifuc directory to work properly ??? Any help - much appreciated...

    :)

    Scott

  9. Hi...

Thanks for the additional information - a $5.00 sale - I can do that... I'll keep an eye out for it and give it a try when the old stuff goes on sale - I wasn't sure if EVERYONE migrated to Arma III when it came out leaving Arma II like a ghost town... Now I know... While I am quite familiar with using various sims - this one is proving a bit daunting - as I've never been a fan of Steam I'm having to figure that out in addition to Arma... Seems like everything is a mod - but - we don't use anything like JSGME to control them as they are applied in Steam... Last night I figured out how to apply my first mods - I added some of the HLC gun packs - LOL - like I said baby steps... I could really use some tips on getting my Arma III to some state where it uses present day hardware or older - I really don't have any interest in futuristic warfare... If someone wants to PM me some suggestions as not to hijack this thread anymore - I'd certainly appreciate it... I'm hoping there is a mod or a couple of mods that will do it to get me started... I'll break out my Rolling Stones CD's to get in the mood for Nam...

    ;)

    Regards,

    Scott

  10. Hi Jackel,

    Thanks for responding - LOL - I kind of figured - I can assure you I'm not a spam-bot....

Maybe now I'm a post closer to being able to post a few questions as I do have some - been working my way through the SP campaign trying to get a feel for Arma - the AI seems to have super human detection capabilities...

    Regards,

    Scott

  11. Hi Folks,

While brand new here - THIS is what I was looking for when I purchased Arma... Honestly - I didn't realize the sim was set in the future - I was a little disappointed not seeing content I was more familiar with after playing AA for a bit... I'm also a bit of a military history nut and Vietnam would be right up my alley... Is it worth purchasing Arma 2 just to be able to run your older mod or is the game engine so far out of date it wouldn't really be worth it at this point ???

From what I've seen it looks quite impressive - best of luck to the team...

Quick question - I can model (MSFS - MSTS) - what format do files need to be in to be convert to useable Arma format ?

    Regards,

    Scott

  12. Hi Folks,

As I've read on here - seems CPU is more important than video cards - I get decent frame rates with my GTX-570 and an overclocked i2700k running at 4.5Ghz on air... I haven't tried online yet though...

    =========================================================================================================================

Brand new here - I've messed with AA and BF series before - anybody know how many posts I have to make before I'm allowed to post my own question ?

Seems a little odd - the newb's like me - who need a little help can't post new threads with our own questions - - - LOL - - - we need a lttle guidance more than others...

    ;)

    Regards,
    Scott
