    NIArms Release Thread

I remember having this problem but it was a while back when everything was re-branded to NIArms. It went away and I thought nothing of it but I can remember someone on here saying it was related to CUP, which uses an older version of Toadie's Minimi / M249. I think that if CUP was earlier in the launch order you could run into it if running both NIArms and CUP together.

    NIArms Release Thread

The suggestion I'd make about the 1911 would be a sort of one-off precision custom, like what a Delta Force operator would have used. What often gets overlooked about the 1911 is that since its design predates mass production, some of the newer ones that they run off by the thousands for the civilian market don't exactly measure up to the long reputation the gun has made for itself. As far as I know, the best 1911s are the ones that have been exquisitely worked over by armorers and gunsmiths, often times with many components hand-fitted and finessed to near perfection. Arguably the first to do this was the Springfield Armory which produced the National Match version of the 1911 which was specially prepared for competition shooting. These guns and their successors went on to form the basis of the specially modified versions used by Delta Force from its inception in the late 70s until the early 90s when war-built stocks finally ran out out and it became essential to source parts and sometimes whole guns from places like Caspian and STI. While its said that the stories of all Delta guys being given a special allowance for gunsmithing expenses is an exaggeration, in many cases guns were personally customized for specific operators just for the simple fact that these guys were the best and anything that could shave off a fraction of a second of reaction time or make a shot group a tenth of an inch closer was always worth it. The trouble is, its not going to be an easy task to find pictures of these weapons, however at the same time there's lots of room for artistic license because when it came to personal customization, no two pistols were alike, with all kinds of different options for the trigger, hammer, slide, grip, mainspring ect. Rather than try to make a carbon copy of SOMEBODY's gun, this could be more of a composite of what an operator's gun may have looked like, if that makes any sense. While there are lots of interesting variants of the M1911, some of which are even still in use today (MEU SOC and M45 come to mind) Delta has been known for being a very strong proponent of both the .45 ACP catridge and the M1911 specifically.

I agree that there are, it would be really interesting to see some of the Finnish models, I've heard stories about how finely crafted they were and I think the used a re-worked Mosin action sniper rifle (kind of similar in philosophy to what the L42 was to the Lee Enfield No. 4) into the 80s and 90s. Still from my understanding, I think the Mosin as currently included in RHS fits into a niche role quite well as an obsolete yet effective (if used properly) legacy weapon for irregular forces.
  4. As far as I know there is no specific mod to do just this, however various mods like CUP weapons or RHS (and many others) use custom reload animations (differing from those of the weapons that come with the game) on their own weapons, this is probably what you are seeing on youtube.

    RH M4/M16 pack

This is just off hand but I'd assume it to be a bit different as the fictional M4/M16A6 in this mod is chambered for 6.8 SPC vs the 6.5 that the MX weapons use.

That's interesting, I didn't know how much of a departure the AK-400 was from the AK-12 (was under the impression that the 400 was just a tweaked 12) so I went back and watched the video. The gas system with adjustable regulator seems like an interesting choice. You're right though, with the possible exception of the short-stroke gas-system most everything else would seem to be capable of being fitted the to the AK-74M and I do see the similarities between the Universal Upgrade Kit and the released photos of the AK-400.

While a lot of the furniture is the same and probably compatible from gun (AK-74M) to gun (AK-400) its my understanding the gas system of both the AK-400 and the AK-12 before it is substantially different vs the AK74 and preceding models. IZMASH / Kalashnikov seems to have abandoned the balanced-recoil operation as done in the AK-107/108, but both the newer guns (AK-12 and 400) seem to be equipped with the 2 round "microburts" which as far as I know, is achieved by the gas system, at a significantly higher rate than the full auto rate of fire. This is again just more off the cuff speculation by me but, from what I've read the system as used by the AK-12/400 while it is something a little special its not nearly as exotic as the AK-107 and especially the AN-94 (which had a cable and pulley system inside it to facilitate its 2 round microburst feature. I have heard some stories about the AN-94, but I haven't heard anything about either the 107 nor 12s being notable unreliable compared to the standard issue 74M, but I would not be surprised to learn that the older, simpler system of the 74M still proves more reliable in testing vs. what's being attempted with many of the newer designs. Aside from this the receivers are quite different, the AK-12/400 being almost fully ambidextrous, complete with reversible charging handle and butt-stock (the rear trunnion is removable and be used to set the stock to fold to the left or the right, at use preference. Also the dustcover, is a different, fixed type compared to the AK-74M but the Upgrade Kit models do seem to feature fixed, railed dustcovers which no doubt are similar in influence.

Yeah after looking at it the regular MP5 when equipped with a silencer and firing subsonic ammo still has a sonic crack. I had all my other mods running in the background though (including JSRS) so maybe that may have had something to do with it. I'll try to test it properly and get back to you.

Yes, and I believe in functions as you say, with no sonic crack.
  11. If I could make a suggestion, one of my favorite books is "The Day Before Midnight" by Stephen Hunter (the guy who wrote "Point of Impact" which later became the movie "Shooter" with Marky Mark). One of the main characters is Walls, an illiterate Vietnam Vet and ex-Tunnel Rat who's recruited from prison to help a Delta Force unit break into an enemy-occupied nuclear missile silo through an abandoned mine-shaft. His weapon of choice was a sawed-off shotgun he called Mr. Twelve. Since Walls wasn't much good with letters maybe "Mr 12" would be better.

This is quite true that (unlike what some airsofters and gun makers would have you believe) the "alpha" isn't a breed apart from the AK74M (which almost all their 5.45x39mm chambered guns started off as before they were modified) but just a really broad "SOPMOD" program applied by the Spetsnaz units armorers. I agree that Zenitco stuff is very popular but it doesn't seem to be universal, for every picture I can find of a guy who's weapon is equipped with a Zenitco hand-guard and an M4 type stock, there's another gun standing next to him with just a railed gas tube, an NPZ adapter and a solid folding stock on his gun. Both are similarly camouflaged and would similarly be considered "alpha" AKs. At the same time, some of these guns can end up having more than a few western sourced parts on them, especially the sights and scopes (Aimpoint, EOTech, ELCAN and Trijicon) and its really refreshing to see the degree of freedom given to these units to make sure they are fielding the absolute best weapon they can assemble from the best parts they can find on the market.

And even after all of that with the trials, still no guarantee that Russian army will buy them in any significant number. The way I see things, looking at available reports I think that its much more likely that you will see the AK74M "Universal Upgrade Kit" procured in large numbers, with the possibility of one of their trial weapons (between the A545 or whatever they are calling the balanced-recoil system gun this week or whatever they decide to do with the AK12) going on to see service with the more elite units, gradually displacing the famed "Alpha" railed AK74. One of the stories I recall hearing regarding the Upgrade Kit was "Oh, the Russians have hundreds of thousands of those guns, they are going to put them in storage after the new AK12s are introduced, just in case they may need them again." Personally I'd like to pour some cold water on this, because while I know the Russians LOVE to store things, I very much doubt that the Russian Army would be spending the money and effort to upgrade a weapon that will be relegated to storage / second-line service. I feel that both the "Universal Upgrade Kit" and "Spetznaz Alpha" variations of the AK74M would be more at home in this mod vs the other prototype guns which have not even been finalized let alone standardized (although in some ways you can argue the same thing with the upgrade kits, which have really yet to be fielded, other than the may day showoff and the Spetznaz guns which from my understanding are quite unique from one to the next in terms of parts and sights used).

    RHS Escalation (AFRF and USAF)

In many ways the way the Russians are organized is a bit different than western armies. Due to they way they used conscription, until recently the Russians didn't really have the strong group of career NCO "glue" that keep most western militaries going. I'm probably not 100% correct on all of this but, from my understanding of their system, the vast majority of Russian NCOs are guys who stand out in initial training and get tabbed for further training and expanded roles, so you end up with guys who would roughly equate to Sergeant rank in the west who have 6-8 months of military experience (and a "Sergeant's course") which is usually just barely more (or in many cases less) than most of their subordinates. This means that in many cases the Officers do a lot more of the "keep the machine running" organizational work that would typically be delegated to NCOs in a western army, on top of the "big picture" planning type stuff they have to do anyway. By comparison this has lead to all kinds of things we'd consider unusual in the west, such as a nuclear submarine being crewed entirely by officers because it was cutting edge sophisticated and the Soviets figured out that if they attempted to train conscripts on it, it would use up more than 75% of their 1 year service term in training alone. Where this comes into play in Arma is that, from what I know in may cases smaller units like platoons or squads that in some cases would be commanded by an NCO in a western army are almost always lead by an Officer in the Russian army, which I would think would increase the likelihood that they'd have to participate in combat. From my understanding though, they are changing things up now, and coming closer to what would be considered the western norm, i.e. trying to entice your more competent guys to stay around and make a career out of the service by offering them higher pay and more responsibilities. I'm probably off on some of the specifics but, you get the picture.

Yeah I know what you mean about long-term projects. Also, unless he collaborated at some point with RHS, the RHpistol pack is made by Robert Hammer and AFAIK unrelated to Red Hammer Studios, which is why its not supported here. I agree with you though, both of Robert Hammer's mods (AR15s and pistols) are top notch and among my favorites. Edit: Warlord indeed is correct though, both of the RH mods haven't been updated in quite some time and while as far as I've seen they still work fine, that doesn't mean that there might not be some unintended things going on with them, especially considering how many times the game has been patched since their release.

    RHS Escalation (AFRF and USAF)

I know just enough to be dangerous about mission making, so don't say I didn't warn you, but honestly the first thing you should do is to try and completely rule out that the issue isn't with RHPistolpack and make sure that it still happening if only the RHS mods are used. The mod devs here won't help you with any problems that may be caused/related to a 3rd party mod, nor should they. Obviously if it IS an RHS issue, that should be a different story, and figuring this out should get you on track for someone who's better at this than I am to help you. Most performance issues I've seen with missions relate back to something being scripted incorrectly, but that doesn't mean that you should just dismiss your problem as this out of hand. One thing your described problem reminds me of is that I seem to remember there was something with *maybe?* with one of the RH mods related to LOD which sounds a little like your problem. I forget the exact cause / effect / solution but it was something along the lines of this certain weapon model (I think it was a weapon anyway) had no low-quality LOD model, so whenever it was present in a mission, the game required it to be simulated a high quality all the time, no matter if you were close to it or not. This is usually not a problem if only one guy is carrying said weapon, but give them to a whole squad or faction, then bad things start to happen and your frame rate goes in the toilet. Anyways hope this was of help to you.

    Talon's TFAR Radio Backpack Additions

Thanks for this, I always found the standard radio bags to be a bit tight on room.
  18. Its probably not the answer that everyone was looking for but I can support and understand the decision. The assets that Apex should give the Unsung team to work with are too good to pass up. The only alternatives to just going with Apex is either A. Ignore its existence and keep making the mod for Vanilla A3 B. Try to support both and make an Unsung Lite version for those who don't have Apex. I think Unsung is probably going to end up being better WITH Apex than without it, and going down the route of trying to keep everyone happy will only end up making things more complicated and difficult ("Oh you're having problems with Unsung, did you install the Lite version or the Apex version?"). Like it or not Apex is where things are going for Arma 3.

    M3A1 SpecOps Tanoa-Edition

I never thought of that, goes to show you the differences between what special ops guys will do / are allowed to do as far how they use and handle their weapons, compared to regular soldiers. Thanks for the prompt updates.

    M3A1 SpecOps Tanoa-Edition

Only two tiny criticisms to make. When fitted, the sight looks like its just a little bit too far forward on the rail and it looks like it would interfere with the travel of the dust-cover (which was actually the safety on these) other than that the weight is only around 50% of its real-world weight (7.95 lbs) but you may have done that for game-play reasons. The only other thing I'll say is that ASDG compatibility might be nice so you could fit most other optics, but I kind of like NOT having that option, it kind of adds to the "crude" feeling of the gun, the same way the reload sounds (just like a "tinny" gun made out of stamped sheet metal) and the play that's in the dust-cover (it wobbles when you shoot) does. You made a good choice when you decided to convert this, and I think it will fell right at home in the jungles of Tanoa.

    M3A1 SpecOps Tanoa-Edition

I mean they didn't have Pic rails (or to my knowledge optics of any kind) but during and after its inception in the late 1970s, Delta Force used suppressed M3s which were apparently very well liked. The most notable modification they made to them was a V-notch rear sight (I think they just chopped the factory fitted one, can't imagine there was much in the way of modifications floating around for the grease gun). Apparently one of their main reasons for using the M3 is that they felt the .45ACP was well suited for hostage rescue as the rounds were less likely to over-penetrate through walls compared to 5.56 or even 9mm. I can't find anything conclusive on it but apparently some of the Delta Force guys on Operation Eagle Claw (the 1980 attempt to rescue the hostages in Iran, which ended in fire at Desert One) were carrying grease guns. Thanks for making this mod I'm downloading now and will give it a look.

    TF47 Launchers [WIP]

Hmm, from what I remember it wasn't Blackpixxel who did the new one that RHS has (sorry I can't remember the name of that author). Also I stumbled on something that might be a pretty good idea for the TF47 Carl Gustav. http://loadoutroom.com/18677/ranger-loadout-carl-gustav/ One of the things mentioned in this article is ADM rounds (Area Denial Munitions) aka flechette / dart rounds, to be used if the enemy gets close enough that the use of regular explosive rounds would be hazardous.
  23. Sorry I don't think they have the F-4s in yet, they've got just about everything but.

    World War II Units

You're sort of right here, but not about the burst. To the best of my knowledge, no BAR had a burst fire mechanism. That being said, the gun was select-fire between semi and full auto (three position fire selector safety, S-for Safe, F-for Fire and A-for Auto) and almost all of them in WW2 were fitted with a rate reducer which could be toggled between 300-450 rpm in slow and 500-650 rpm in rapid rate. This was mainly done to help prevent the barrels from heating up as fast as they would on rapid fire, they would be on slow most of the time and only go to rapid fire in cases of emergency. Edit / correction: After looking into this further, it looks like the M1918A2 version of the BAR which was the standard going into WW2 (it was introduced in 1938, and initially was not a new production gun but a retrofit / upgrade to existing M1918/M1918A1 guns) did not have a semi-auto mode, just the slow and fast rates of full auto fire. The M1918A2 accounts for most but not all BARs used in WW2. Some unmodified WW1-era M1918s (which would have been select-fire, semi or fast full auto) still existed but were mostly kept to second line service. Aside from the rate-reducer, the biggest differences between the initial version and the A2 was the barrel-mounted bi-pod (which ironically was often discarded by troops to save weight) and hinged butt-plate which was only present on the A2s.
  25. Outstanding, downloading now. Thanks for all the work guys! Huge accomplishment.........!
