Important question about Track IR5/Oculus RIft...

To be honest, I'm not sure TrackIR and other optical systems are the best available head-tracking option. I've heard nothing but good things about TrackIR and the only negative experience I've had with my own Freetrack setup was caused by a broken zip-tie letting the pointtracker clip move about; but the environmental light sources issue is a bit of a pain. I'm looking forward to testing out my new EdTracker next week to see how they compare.
  2. Honestly, don't mind the appearance, I can still read it. But the links mean that external bookmarks no longer work, links from external sites don't work, and even posts on here that reference other posts on here don't work... That's a bit of a regression in functionality. Hopefully someone can fix it, whether in the forum software itself, or through something more duct-tape-oriented like the apache rewrite module...

Important question about Track IR5/Oculus RIft...

Before you decide between TrackIR5 and Oculus, why not try one of the cheaper head-tracking systems first? A delan clip costs about $40 on ebay, and when combined with a PS3 Eye camera for $5 and FreeTrack, you get a fully working system for a lot less money (and the delan clip is compatible with TrackIR if you decide to buy one anyway). Or there's the EdTracker, which for £40 will give you a fully working system that uses a MEMS gryoscope and magnetometer so you don't have to worry about other light sources in the room mucking things up.

Question to all - what volume do you play at?

30-40% if I'm playing as infantry. 5% if I'm flying a helo. It's not realistic (in real life guns are LOUD, soldiers go deaf, and earplugs are a real thing :D ) but if I wanted realism, I'd have joined the army :D Dropping the in-game volume is the simplest fix for the problem of wanting to enjoy flying a helo and still be able to hear your squad lead tell you where he wants the fireteam dropped off at. It'd be nice if you could turn down engine noises selectively, but meh. First world problems...
