Cpl Ryan 1 Posted April 24, 2002 ok, after looking around the net for some large scale engagement i noticed that there were very few, and none on the scale i have started. My idea was to have divison sized combat, but i soon realised that idea was flawed due to the sheer size it required (as well as CPU power) so i reduced it to a single brigade plus suport (aviation: 2 companys worth, and logistics: 1 company) (for what its worth i used the 1st Inf Div based in germany as the model for the American forces, just so you have an idea of the size and displacement of units) now so far its running ok on my little old 1.2 Athlon but i havent got everything in place yet, but do you think it would slow it down too much if i continued? or do you think i should scale it down again? i can post an order of battle if it would make things clearer
russin 0 Posted April 24, 2002 how many units have you placed already ?? ive made a multi player coop with over 300 units and no lag for me at all mind you im on a 1.4 ghz with 512 DDR ram geforce 3 64 meg vid card 300 or more never accully counted could be much more i just spread them out over 3 objectives... and mixed it up with air units and ground assult
Cpl Ryan 1 Posted April 24, 2002 so far this is what ive got placed: •1 brigade of 3 battallions (1 inf 1 armoured) •1/2 an attack squadron (12 instead of 24) •Engineer/logistics company •and 2 companys of aviation (3, 6 apache platoons, 1 platoon of mixed UH-60 and CH47's) so thats...omg i just worked it out, thats 576 individual soldiers for the infantry battalion alone ok im begining to see this is gonna need downsizing somewhat, you agree? USSoldier11B 0 Posted April 25, 2002 With all of the support units you a talking about 3000 personnel for a single Brigade. I don't think my CPU can handle that. Plus making a mission that large would be extremely time consuming and complex. Try a company sized operation in OFP. It will seem plenty big.
FetishFool 0 Posted April 25, 2002 I tried making a large 300vs300 type engagement, but it has more flaws than just a little lag. The dead bodies create barriers where the AI can't move through. Also, I figured out that I had to set everyone to AllowFleeing=0 because the AI automatically runs away when they see a certain amount of enemy. I'd LOVE to see your mission, Ryan. When ever you're ready to publicize it, I'm here to beta-test
Wreck-It 0 Posted April 25, 2002 They do? I mena they actually whoossie out?
Loki278912 0 Posted April 25, 2002 ive been trying to make one with just 75 guys, but the game keeps crashing...dammit
Wreck-It 0 Posted April 25, 2002 Make sure all your groups are 12 soldiers or less. Sometimes the mission editor lets you pull off the 13 man group stunt, and save, but the mission will not load afterwards, and yes, the game crashes instead of telling you that groups are limited to 12 soldiers... Cpl Ryan 1 Posted April 25, 2002 after adding up the amount of units it would take i have decided to reduce it some, i had only placed units for one side and there was over a couple of hundred units but the good side as it didnt lag (yet atleast) just a quick question though, how much larger will the resistance island be, i was thinking maybe i should back off till its released...?
