breeze 0 Posted July 17, 2010 Has anyone seen the parachute with the hole in it at the top so we can do proper halo jumps the other ones keep the player up there to long, Also if the parachute I want is an Arma 2, rahter than OA, does that negate me from being able to use back packs and flashlights in a mission for coop play. Anyways I did look at the Armaholic site for this but you cant see by the way its done and the ones I have tried no luck yet.
kylania 568 Posted July 17, 2010 If YOU have Combined Operations you can use content from either game. If you do though, people playing that mission will need to have Combined Operations as well, or else they'll be missing items or not even be able to connect at all. The only reason a parachute keeps the player up too long is if the player opened it too high. :)
KC Grimes 79 Posted July 17, 2010 The only reason a parachute keeps the player up too long is if the player opened it too high. :) Exactly. Its called a High Altitude Low Opening Jump for a reason. Just keep in mind that if you make a Combined Operations (using units from A2 and OA) mission that anyone who wants to play it must be running Combined Operations as well. CarlGustaffa 4 Posted July 18, 2010 Has anyone seen the parachute with the hole in it at the top so we can do proper halo jumps the other ones keep the player up there to long, I'm not sure I fully understand what you're asking. Parachute with a hole in it? For HALO? Chutes for HALO are always square and steerable. Nonsteerable chutes are typically round (might have a hole in it) in real life, but not used for personnel HALO but rather normal and combat jumps (very low altitude). HAHO jumps are not suitable in Arma/AO due to lack of descent control and map just being too small to really support it (can fly more than 50km this way, Takistan is just 12km). But, in Arma/AO we are limited to steerable and nonsteerable square chutes. If you eject, you'll get nonsteerable chute (although it should have been round I guess). To get steerable, you have to start script. And personally, I like HALO to mean what it says, high altitude. So in my mission I implement HALO from fixed 20000 feet (6096 meters) and fixed position, you'll have to freefall to where you want. But I also have low altitude (line) combat jumps available, but without the steering. I don't like this "I want to steer my parachute but I don't want to go high either" thingy :p
breeze 0 Posted July 18, 2010 I understand the meaning of Halo I'm not being smart when I say it cause there's sooo much here i don't understand however my understanding of the chutes that have the holes in the top its like an opening the size of maybe 4 dinner plates in the center of the chute so that you descend faster they have had them since world war 2 I thought and I remember it from a guy the guy who made the lost key from sealz, I'm almost certain that his mission which I copied a long time ago :=) had them I really thought that for HALO they were a standard. If your all saying that you don't have them or haven't seen them I guess I'm mistaken but I thought we had them somewhere along the way. I grabbed that jump from the Jackal mission and I dont get the Halo counter either showing the altitude that and the sound aren't there I guess I'm going to have to join that other Halo thread I saw LOL
CarlGustaffa 4 Posted July 18, 2010 No, sorry, I don't think I have seen them. OA HALO uses normal square chutes that can be controlled. No altimeter. I know it's not realstic to not have one, but maybe people will be a little more careful instead of opening at the absolute minimum. It should also be a barometric one using ASL (including 2000m island vertical offset) rather than a radar altimeter (not sure what version it was in Arma1, never used HALO much). Btw, learn to use punctuations. That sentence is horrible to understand.
breeze 0 Posted July 18, 2010 What should be barometric using ASL an altimeter that isnt around yet? Or theres a Chute that should be ASL ? not sure what you mean by that?
CarlGustaffa 4 Posted July 18, 2010 I mean an altimeter readout (i.e. as a hintbox) should read: _offset + getPosASL player select 2; //_offset=2000 for Takistan, 0 for Chernarus. I.e. it should read 4200 meters (feet preferred, but lets stay within what the game normally uses) above sea level rather than 2000 meters above terrain level.
