megagoth1702 252 Posted July 6, 2010 Hey guys! As many here I love the coop-play, now I want to try to do the same on my own computer. I found out that I have to select a port and open it in the firewall&router. That is working fine. Looking for bandwidth I read "count about 10ko/s per player". What is "ko/s"? Kilobytes? Kilobits? Download speed should be no problem for me, upload speed is 210 KByte/s. Is that enough to run a small mission? How many players could get on this? Yesterday I had a 2-man coop and at some point the net connection was kind of bad (the yellow&red signs appeared), I think that was when the enemies detected us and were organizing. So I wonder - what kinds of data do I send to the clients? AI positions only? How big can this get? I hope my english was good enough to explain my questions... :) I thank you very much in advance! Have a nice day! (btw - school is off in Germany, yepeeh!:D)

killswitch 19 Posted July 8, 2010 Looking for bandwidth I read "count about 10ko/s per player".What is "ko/s"? Kilobytes? Kilobits? It's probably "kilo octets" which is the same as kilobytes. (For example, unless I'm mistaken, the English word "byte" in French is "octet" )Download speed should be no problem for me, upload speed is 210 KByte/s. Is that enough to run a small mission? How many players could get on this?"A few". I don't really know how many, so you'll have to try and see how it works out.Yesterday I had a 2-man coop and at some point the net connection was kind of bad (the yellow&red signs appeared), I think that was when the enemies detected us and were organizing. So I wonder - what kinds of data do I send to the clients? AI positions only? How big can this get? You can get the yellow or worse, the red chain if the server suddenly gets bogged down with a lot of things happening. Until those changes have been broadcast to all the players, a yellow or red chain is displayed by the clients. Your computer sends data about your own player avatar's position, what it's doing (firing, moving around etc) and also what AI under your control are doing. There's most likely a lot more that's being sent to the server and I don't know how "big" all that can get.Have a nice day! (btw - school is off in Germany, yepeeh!:D):) Enjoy your summer holidays!
