How to run OA only server (from a combined ops installation

Recommended Posts

How can I launch an Operation Arrowhead (only) server from a combined ops installation.

I have been unable to find a way to launch the server without it launching CA in addition to Expansion

2 options..

1- In the same folder with teh same shortcut etc.. -> rename Addons folder to Addons_OFF

2- In a separate folder -> copy all ArmA2 directory to ArmA2oa folder except Addons folder or copy ArmA2 directory to ArmA2OA and delete addons folder in ArmA2OA folder.

Create new shortcut to OA.exe in ArmA2OA.

If you do that, there's still a difference - the list of mods ("Expansions" in the OA MP game browser) that a dedicated server shows are different when using a "proper" standalone OA installation versus a merged installation and those mod folder "hacks".

A standalone OA server will list

expansion

whereas a merged ("Combined Operations") installation will have

ca;expansion

Similarly, the ArmA II:OA client will use either of these when negotiating with a server. A standalone OA client only has expansion whereas a quasi-OA-only client from an altered merged installation will present ca;expansion to servers.

This would cause problems if you wanted to connect to a server that makes use of the server config directive equalModRequired. So yes, in a way, you can run OA-only content in the way described, but there's still a difference. It is this difference we'd like to remove.

It can be argued that this difference is insignificant, but it may be an issue if you're trying to troubleshoot problems that an OA-only player is having using a merged (combined) installation.

Why dont you install it to a laptop and see the structure and mimic it on a separate folder on server ?

Our workaround at the minute is

1) Install O.A as a standalone

2) Copy master install to a secondary folder (To be used as O.A Standalone)

3) Uninstall O.A

4) Reinstall O.A into the ArmA2 directory as combined ops

Use a copy of the combined ops install for Production servers

Use the copy of the uninstalled Standalone for the standlone test server.

However this causes minor complications for any up and coming patches, so a more preferred approach would have been to use a combined ops installation and use a set of params to only load O.A

So far having tried many varients and param startups from a combined ops installation we have been unable to launch the game without loading CA

Deleting the A2 content (Such as addons and dta) and loading Arma2OAserver.exe for some reason still loads CA

The reason behind our criteria is that for now we only want to load O.A content and run O.A missions.

This in turn means our mission developers only create O.A missions.

We can therefore use our test server as O.A Standalone to filter out any missions that have accidentally had A2 content added (this is preferred to un pbo'ing the missions and checking the addon dependancy section of the mission.sqm)

Also, if we can figure out how to properly load only O.A content for the server from a combined ops install, we can then pass this info on to our mission developers.

They shouldnt have to install/uninstall/reinstall to get the multi folder setup we have on the server to load a standlone version.

So..... still looking for a better solution :)
