Question about crosshair/reticle positioning

Recommended Posts

I tried the demo of this game but didn't really like the way you aim and stuff, so I was wondering, is there a way to keep your crosshair/reticle position in the middle of the screen like most FPS games?

It's the only thing keeping me from buying Arma II and OA.

It is in the center of the screen... If you are trying to run and gun, or even walk and gun then your aim is going to be a lot less accurate.

On the easier settings you get two modes of shooting. The first is via the hip and its a little green dot in the middle of the screen, it moves around as you run to reduce your accuracy when moving.

The second is looking through the scope. The scopes on the guns are (semi) realistic, so whatever mechanism they have for dealing with real life ballistic drop of the bullet the scope will show. In COD most fights are less than 100m so a central red dot is all you need. In Arma 2 its not uncommon to have a fights at 300m+ and a red dot with no zoom is of limited use.

COD just isn't very realistic in terms of war or scopes or guns. Arma is just a tad more demanding of the user of the weapons, you need to know a bit about what your doing to hit targets and that is a good thing.

I think he means the adjustable "floating zone" in which the crosshair can move.

Yes, you can adjust the size of the floating zone to zero to make the crosshair stuck in the center of the screen.

(btw. i think the Demo also lets you adjust this, no?)

This is what I mean, I'd rather have the crosshair in the center of the screen, like the 2nd image. Is there a way to do this?

Example:

Reticle is not in the center of the screen:

Reticle is in the center of the screen:

You can go into options > game options > and then turn aiming deadzone all the way down.

Then your crosshair will stay in the middle. :)

I would honest advise you learn to use this, yes you can turn it off, but there is an advantage of having a mouse deadzone in the center.... If you can move your arms with out moving your body you can make slight adjustments to your aim and not be as noticeable to other people.

I've played since OFP, and the deadzone was (and still is) a major killer for me. I have it at about 5% now just so I can't "aim by screen center", but that's just me. I would prefer if this offsetting was done not only to the arms, but also to the head. I simply cannot grasp the concept of my eyes not being focused on the sight; loose the sideview around the sight. But, there is probably no solution to satisfy everyone when we have three directions to consider; walking direction, looking direction, and weapon direction.

The benefit of using a high deadzone, is that you more get to "feel" how heavy a weapon is. Without using deadzone, you can only get this feel when "in the sights" and using alt-look. And naturally you'll be easier to spot when you rotate the whole body to look elsewhere.
